1 GR-RRR 8 R Wichita Pontiac Club s Monthly Publication June 2017 I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far and attending as many car shows as they can. I know Mom and Dad have a lot of weekends booked this summer and quite a few of those weekends are dedicated to car shows. If anyone attends any of the car shows and takes pictures, you can send them to me, if you would like, and I will put them in the newsletter. Please be sure to say when and where the car show was and your thoughts on it. Thank you to Don Duryea and Dave Creveling for sending in articles for the newsletter. They have saved all of you from Dad s horrible dad jokes for another month. Dad has been rehearsing and writing down his jokes, so please send stories or articles! His jokes are about as tacky as they come so I m really trying to protect you all from them!! :) Please be on the lookout for our farmer s hauling their crops to the elevators. The combines and trucks are a little bigger than we are so please be aware they are out in full force and give them the space they need. I hope everyone has a wonderful month and stay cool!!

Two original owners attending this months meeting; Gary Fiebach ( 68 GTO) and Joan Kennedy ( 65 GTO). Joan is going to Nationals to receive her Original Owners Award. GO JOAN!! Thank you Gary for the Treasurer s Report. Always nice to know where we stand with the finances. June is a busy month for car shows, Nationals, Father s Day and harvest. Can t forget the ones that grow the crops to feed us. Yes, this farm kid misses helping with harvest, but so glad I don t have to do it anymore. Thank you farmers!! Thank you all for making our club great! REMINDER: Please work on contacting sponsors for our Uprising.

3 The May 2017 meeting had 23 attendees and was hosted by Rubb Nutt at FMI. Thanks for the lunch and tour of FMI, Robb. The meeting was called to order at 12:54 pm by Pres. Rita Jones. The meeting started with introductions due to some new faces. Gary gave a treasurer s report. Our current cash balance is $13,451. We started with $16,000 prior to money being spent on the Uprising so far. Gary also reported that most of the money comes from the spectators that attend the Uprising vs. entry fees. Rita, Dan and Gary discussed advertising more in magazines, radio stations and newspapers to gain more attendance. Robb discussed advertising more for our Uprising for a better than break-even revenue. There was discussion on event celebrities committed to attending the Uprising. The guest speakers that have committed are Dave Hannah of Sterling Restoration and Don Keefe from Poncho Perfection. Dan J. reported (from a reliable source) that the Ark City track has been purchased. Dave C. reported on items purchased for the ditty bags, such as air fresheners and lapel pens. Rita reported that Haggerty Insurance committed to donations for the ditty bags, and she suggested that door prizes be done at the race instead of at the tech session. Les L. announced for the 2020 date of the GTOAA show, only one week is available, June 15-20, for the hotel room block and Century II facility. Rita J. announced upcoming events: Blacktop Nationals, Lake Afton, KC car show on June 3rd at Bass Pro Shop parking lot, and the Marauder s car show on June 17 at the Kansas Star Casino. Rita J. asked that those working on sponsorship donations would continue doing so. The next meeting is at Russ Stuhr s home, at SW Mockingbird Rd, Andover, KS. 5 By: David Creveling Early last year after having the carburetor overhauled and the choke stove rebuilt on my 58 Pontiac it was recommended I start using ethanol free gas to keep the rubber parts in the fuel system from deteriorating from today s toxic fuels. I knew ethanol free was available in 87 octane at a few QT pumps with red handles, but I had always used premium unleaded. Not wanting to use the lower octane I did a little computer research and came across a website I want to share with everyone called Pure Gas.org I was excited to find several Cenex Stations here in Wichita selling 91 octane ethanol free pure gas premium. Using this premium pure gas has given the 58 and my 64 Grand Prix back the performance they haven t had since leaded premium disappeared 30+ years ago. It is just amazing the difference this fuel makes and most of the time the price is comparable to unleaded premium and it doesn t harm rubber parts in the fuel system. My first couple fill ups were at the Cenex station at Kellogg & Greenwich, which sadly had to close and is now totally gone due to the Kellogg expansion. Since then, I have been going to the Cenex Station at 1231 E. 29th St. N. It is a block West of the 29th and Hydraulic exit on I-135 or the Hydraulic exit on the K-96 bypass if you are heading West. If you have an older car, I highly recommend you go to the website I linked above to find the station nearest you selling 91 octane pure gas and try it. I limited the list to stations in Kansas by city and octanes available. It looks like pure gas use is catching on as the list is growing. I now see a Casey s at 103 W. Patriot Ave. in Derby is selling pure 91 which wasn t listed last time I looked. This is a great site to plan a trip by and find pure gas nationwide.
