1 2016 Fortune 500 Sponsorship Guide Learn which Fortune 500 Companies Will Sponsor Your Events Developed By Quiana Murray QuianaMurray.com
2 Welcome Entrepreneur! You've landed in a great space. One of the best ways for you to grow your influence, brand awareness, and income is to host live events. Planning a live event takes lots of time, energy, and money. The key is to not spend lots of your money planning your next live event. Instead, you can utilize sponsorship dollars to help keep your monetary investment low and profits high. Getting sponsorship dollars from Fortune 500 companies can be the difference between you making a profit and you 'breaking even' or worse, losing money all together. In this guide you're going to learn what questions potential sponsors will have so you can prepared before you contact these companies. You're also going to be given some of my strategies for making sure your requests for sponsorship from these companies get a YES and not a big fat 'no'. Lastly, this guide is going to help you determine which Fortune 500 companies are already sponsoring events in your industry so you focus your efforts on organizations most likely to approve your requests! 3 Part I: Your Event Details The following are questions potential sponsors will have regarding you and your event. Answer each question fully. Explain what you do (your industry, type of products and services you provide, and how you help your clients). What types of live events have you hosted in the past? Tell me about your event (what is it about, for how long, where will it be)? How will attendees benefit from attending your event)?
4 Who (guest / celebrities) will be speaking and presenting at your event? Will guests / celebrities be paid for their attendance and if so how much? Is there a cost for attendees and if so, how much per ticket? What is included in the cost for attendees (i.e., meals, activities, etc.)? What discounts or incentives will you give attendees who buy multiple tickets to your event?
5 What other companies have confirmed they are sponsoring and/or partnering with you for your event? What other companies are you asking to sponsor your event? What type of sponsorship are you looking for (i.e., sponsors to exhibit, provide a monetary contribution, and/or be guest speakers)? What are your current sponsorship levels and what's included at each level? Why do you want (company you are contacting) to sponsor your event?
6 How to you plan to feature your sponsors (at your event and in your promotional materials)? What are you doing now to promote your event? How do you plan to promote the event going forward (expand your reach)? What other information can you provide about yourself and your event?
7 Part II: Preparing For Contact Now that you've answered the common questions sponsors will have, you can prepare to contact them by phone or . Before I give you my top 5 strategies, I want to remind you... When you're preparing to contact a Fortune 500 Company for sponsorship, remember you're really just contacting another human being. Don't get yourself so wrapped up in the status of the company that you forget to be 'in the moment' with your contact at the company. Here are my top 5 strategies to help make sure you get a YES! Do your research. No one likes to be contacted via a cold call or and feel the person on the other end doesn't have a clue. Using this guide and doing your research about the company before you contact them will make you stand out. Big Time! Prepare a script. A surefire way to forget to say something important or commit to too much, is to wing it. You want to ensure every communication with the company is consistent so prepare in advance. Be honest. There may be people who ask questions you just don't have the answer to. It's better to be honest (and promise to find the answer) than to lie and be seen as having no integrity. Remember no one is expecting you to know everything, most times they just want to know you will figure it out. Keep track of everything. Make sure you keep a spreadsheet of all the contacts you make, when you contacted them, and when you need to follow up. This one step can be the sole reason you stand out. Nothing screams sponsorship ready like an organized planner / host! Keep your promises. As you begin to connect with potential sponsors you're going to want to follow up and make good on your agreements. If you promise to do something in exchange for sponsorship, you better deliver. Don't run the risk of earning a horrible reputation in the industry.
8 Part III: Fortune 500 Companies Now it's time for you to begin making your list of Fortune 500 companies who are likely to sponsor YOUR next live event. Review the following table. Included are a selection of Fortune 500 Companies that spend millions of dollars sponsoring events each year. The events, industries, and causes that received money from or partnered with each Fortune 500 company is listed in the following table. Put a star next to the name of each Fortune 500 Company that sponsored an event in your industry. These are the companies that are most likely to sponsor your event.
