1 May 2018 Osage County 4-H Newsletter Share the Fun! It is almost that wonderful time of year when school is out and you are free to do all things 4-H all summer! The date for Share the Fun and Fashion Review is Saturday, May 12, 2018 in the Ag Building at the Osage County Fairgrounds. It is getting so close, I hope you are ready! If it has snuck up on you, do not worry yet, I will be glad to help you in anyway that I can. Even if you have been preparing for weeks already, if you just feel you need a little extra help, feel free to come see me. We will begin with Fashion Review at 10:00 AM, with Share the Fun to follow after an hour break for lunch. Job Readiness will also be included in our time for anyone who wishes to participate. All forms are online now. This issue provides registration forms and a listing of dates to keep you informed. Please be sure to mark your calendars with these items. There will be a Record Book Workshop offered May 17th at 6 PM. Also State Round Up registration is due June 1 st. The earlier we have them, the better chance of getting the better dorms. Cost is $135 and does include the cost of the shirt. I would like to get started on making a file folder for each of the clubs to have in my office.

3 I want to take this space to keep you all updated on things we are working on, working toward or have completed/ accomplished. I think this is a good opportunity for you to see what we are doing and strides we are taking to Make the Best Better. I would like to get started on making a file folder for each of the clubs to have in my office. It is the hope that by doing that I can keep all of activities in order and keep up with who did what that year. In these folders I would want to keep a copy of any registration form, application, etc., turned in, to keep track of events members attended this year. Later in the year ribbons and other awards might be added. I really think this could be a good way to help keep track of things done throughout the year for the purpose of record books, scholarships, other projects and more. It may take me a while to get this started but I am hoping to have something like this soon. I will be working with Branden and other staff to help put up forms on the county s website. This means easier access for you and if I forget a form or something in a newsletter, you won t miss anything because you can just print it immediately. This is also faster than waiting on a monthly newsletter for a registration form. I will most likely still send a printed form but this way if it gets lost or doesn t make it to you, you can still easily get one. I would like to start taking advantage of the Facebook page. I encourage each of you to go in and like the page for quick updates. I think Facebook is a great tool for us to be using. Almost everyone has it and it can get news and information to you all quickly. This way I can easily send out quick reminders or updates so you are not having to check the website daily or waiting. Also, we may be adding dates and this will keep you up-to-date. This helps too if I forget something, I can quickly let you know what is happening, if there is something you need to print, etc. I may even post forms here but I m not sure just yet. I also hope to get a Food Showdown up and going again. With any luck I might could get one arranged this summer but it is looking more like next year before we can make that happen due to grant funding. I have asked about it but it may all come down to funding this year. Being my first few weeks here are a few things I am focused on doing, as well as getting ready for all of the upcoming events. Hopefully there will be more to come and as always please feel free to contact me or drop by and see me if you have questions, concerns or thoughts. 3

I am also considering just using this to highlight individuals, but if I do that I would need information to write an article about a member, leader, or volunteer. Stacey Dawson 4-H and Youth Development County Educator, Osage County stacey.dawson@okstate.edu My name is Stacey Dawson and I am your new 4-H and Youth Development County Educator.

I grew up watching my mom do this and as a result I was 4-Her too. I have been doing 4-H things before I was even allowed to be a Cloverbud.

5 Stacey Dawson 4-H and Youth Development County Educator, Osage County My name is Stacey Dawson and I am your new 4-H and Youth Development County Educator. My mom has worked in Extension for about 21 years, serving as the FCS/4-H educator, CED for most of those years, now she is the CNEP Coordinator for Tulsa County. I grew up watching my mom do this and as a result I was 4-Her too. I have been doing 4-H things before I was even allowed to be a Cloverbud. I was in 4-H up until we moved to Oklahoma my junior year of high school. While I was in 4-H I gave countless speeches on food and nutrition, fashion review, baitcasting, BB shooting, livestock skills, and livestock judging. I guess you could say I am pretty well rounded. I won multiple awards, including those for record books at local, district and state, Hall of Fame, and too many ribbons to count from speeches and fairs at all levels. Then I became a volunteer for my mom. 4-H was too deep in my blood to give up just like that, so once I was no longer a 4-Her I volunteered. I have volunteered at Food Showdowns as a judge, at the fair, went on trips as extra help, and more. I love being a part of 4-H because I know the impact it can have. I look forward to being a part of this program, meeting each and everyone of you, and watching this program and its members grow. I am originally from Arkansas and my family moved here when I was 16 years old. Although at the time I was not happy about the move, I can honestly say things have turned out great. We have been living in Oklahoma 9 years now. I live in Skiatook but I graduated from Collinsville High School. From there I went to Rogers State University in Claremore, where I received a Bachelor s degree in Medical/Molecular Biology. With that degree I went to work at Regional Medical Lab in Tulsa in their microbiology department. I quickly realized that was not where I wanted to be and so I set my sights on doing what I have always enjoyed and what I should have done in the first place. I am now currently back in school to get my Master s degree in Family and Consumer Science; Food and Nutrition. I am scheduled to complete this in December of this year. Food and nutrition is an important area to me and is something I have been interested for my whole life. My main project growing up in 4-H was food and nutrition. Now I am here where I want to be and plan to be for many years to come. I look forward to meeting you, getting to know and working with you. Feel free to come by the office and meet me and never hesitate to call or if you ever have any questions or concerns. I will always do my best to answer any questions I can and get back to you as soon as possible. 5
