2 Summer Reading Program Join us this summer for fun literacy programs. We will be hosting these programs at the Pinellas Lighthouse for the Blind at th Circle North, Suite 103, Largo. Friday, June 19 th from noon-3pm for teens. We will be learning technology skills, how to grow a business and manage money. Call the Lighthouse to register (727) , ask for Meridith. Saturday, July 18 th from 10-11am for early readers, suggested ages 5-9. We will be performing an interactive storytime and take home craft. Free Braille book provided! Call the Lighthouse to register (727) , ask for Amaris. A Few Tips For Your Talking Book Player Remember that you do not have to rewind your book before you return it. If you would like to start the book from the beginning when it announces End of book, simply tap the square, green, Play/Stop button two times. Pictured here is an Advanced Digital Player. It is nearly identical to the Standard Digital Player. The only difference is the row of advanced navigation buttons. These allow you to have more control in navigating through books. For example, if you are reading an instructional book (like a cookbook or the Bible) you can choose to jump from one chapter to another, or one recipe to the next, or insert your own bookmarks to go directly to your favorite section. If you could benefit from or need an Advanced Digital Player, let us know, but there is a waiting list as they are less abundant than the Standard Player. If you have an Advanced Player and are not using the extra features, please consider exchanging it for a Standard Player as there are many people on the waiting list for one. You may have noticed that your player once told you that it had greater than 25 hours of battery life and may say less than this now. Remember that it is beneficial to the life of your battery to keep the player plugged in as much as possible. Your player is made to be portable, but the battery will wear out much quicker when it s not plugged in. If you notice that your player will not hold more than 8 hours, give us a call to order a new one. It does take about 2 weeks to receive a new player, so it s a good idea to order one before the battery won t hold a charge at all.

3 Meet Your Staff Members We welcome our patrons to call us and get familiar with our staff! Abby I really enjoy books that make you think about society and the way our world works. Especially the young adult fiction because the stories are just as good as the adult themed books, but they leave out a lot of the strong language and sex. I loved the Partials Sequence by Dan Wells (DB074651) and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (DB068384). As for the more grown up books, I think Jodi Picoult really hits the spot for making you think about controversial ideologies. Cheryl After 17 years in American Samoa, I am happy to return to Florida this past year. Serving as the librarian for the Talking Book Library has been a great opportunity for me to rise up to meet a whole new set of challenges. My family has been having adventures and enjoying the riches Pinellas County has to offer. When people ask me why I left paradise for Pinellas County, I tell them I just traded one paradise for another. Jennifer Hello Talking Book Patrons! I am Jennifer and I enjoy reading books that make me feel good! A well written mystery, a light, humorous romance, or a good biography are usually my favorites. I look forward to talking with many of you in the future and will enjoy helping you pick out your favorite books also! Juliet I usually only read non-fiction books. I like to learn something or hear about an uplifting story of someone who overcame the odds. I did enjoy the last book club title, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (DB079182), even though it was fiction, there were a lot of historical facts woven throughout the story. Martha Hello! My name is Martha Frenchek. I started working at the Talking Book Library in February and it has been a great experience for me. My passion is to be able to travel more. When reading I like to escape into another world so I guess you can say I enjoy reading fiction books! Shirley I m Shirley, you don t see me or hear me very often because I m in the back room where we have the job of sending and receiving books; both ones in circulation and new books that have to be made ready to send out to patrons. On occasion, I have the opportunity to take an order from patrons. It s great to talk with you when I get the chance and serving you is a pleasure and priviledge.
