It differs from a conventional safety light curtain in that it provides a much longer operating range and a wider beam spacing. s a result, it is an excellent choice for safeguarding the perimeter of a hazardous area. It is suited to detect the torso of personnel entering into a hazardous area rather than detection of hands and fingers. Installation is easily achieved with the Individual Beam Indicators, which glow red when the corresponding infrared beam is out of alignment. Front panel access to the selector switches allows for easy configuration modification. The separate Scan odes allow the installer to select unique scan frequencies that eliminate crosstalk with adjacent P00 systems. Diagnostics are also greatly streamlined with the LED status indicators and numeric displays. The m solid-state safety outputs provide for a wide range of interfacing options with industry standard safety relays. The MPE monitoring assures that the control reliability of the P00 will be integrated into the control panel of the hazardous machine. 9 perimeter access guarding P00 Safety Standards and Precautions The P00 is a presence sensing device used only for perimeter access guarding applications, such as around robots and workcells. The P00 meets SI/I.0- and E: optical configuration requirements for perimeter access guarding presencesensing devices. P00 systems have been E type examined to the requirements of IE -, - for a Type ESPE. The P00 also meets the control reliability requirements of SI/I.0-. The optical design and detection capability of the P00 are optimized for torso detection of personnel entering a hazardous area from the perimeter, also called perimeter access guarding. It is not intended to be used for the detection of hands and fingers. It is not designed for, nor should it be used as, a high-resolution point-ofoperation safety light curtain. The safety beams have been positioned to meet SI/I.0- and E: perimeter guarding requirements. These documents are an excellent reference for the application of perimeter guarding optical devices such as the P00. The P00 should only be used on machinery that can consistently and immediately stop anywhere in its cycle or stroke. ever use a P00 to guard the perimeter of a full revolution clutched power press or machine. If the P00 does not protect all access to the hazardous area, other appropriate devices such as mechanical guards must guard the unprotected access.
