Sew using a ¼" seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Press seams as indicated. The little dresses for this project can be made as clothes for an 18" doll. They were designed to be easily made by a young girl, but she may need some added assistance from mom to make it easier. They are also intended to be pinned onto the quilt. However, they could be fused in place and appliquéd as usual. Fusible Appliqué Follow the manufacturer s instructions for using fusible web. With paper side facing up, place lightweight fusible web on top of each template and trace. Cut around the word (dream and love) image, leaving a slight margin beyond the traced lines. Fuse words to wrong side of Charcoal Tonal fabric. Cut out words on drawn lines. Remove paper backing. Position appliqués as shown in quilt design, or as desired, and fuse on quilt block. Using a tear-away stabilizer underneath the quilt top (optional), machine appliqué using a decorative satin or buttonhole/blanket stitch. Gently remove stabilizer. Note: Stabilizer is not usually necessary for the buttonhole/ blanket stitch or the feather stitch. Row 1 Trim the dream appliqué block to 8 ½" x 24 ½". Pin and sew the Green Dot fabric rectangle to the right side of the dream appliqué block. Press seam as shown. Sew the White Script rectangle to the Yellow Bird fabric, pressing the seam toward the White Script fabric. Sew the Aqua Dot fabric to the White Script fabric, pressing the seam toward the Aqua Dot fabric. Sew the two sets of rectangles together, pressing seam toward the Yellow Bird fabric. Sew the rectangles to the Green Dot rectangle, pressing seam toward the White Script fabric (Dia. A). Row 1 should measure 8 ½" x 44 ½". (Dia. A)

4 STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 4 of 10 Row 2 Making 4-Patch Blocks: Using the 4 ½" squares, sew the White Script squares to the Orange Dot squares. Press all the seams toward the Orange Dot fabrics. Sew together to create two 4-Patch blocks. Sew the 8 ½" squares of Turquoise Bird fabric to the right side of each of the 4-Patch blocks. Press seams toward the Turquoise Bird fabric. Sew the two sections together. Sew the Green Dot fabric rectangle to the Yellow Bird fabric, pressing seam toward the Green Dot fabric. Sew to the left side of the 4-Patch section to create Row 2 (Dia. B). Press toward the rectangles. (Dia. B) Row 3 Background for Clothesline: Sew the large 14 ½" x 32 ½" Aqua Floral Tonal rectangle to the 6 ½" x 32 ½" Blue Script rectangle. Press seam toward the Blue Script fabric. Sew the five rectangles as shown and press toward arrows. This section should measure 20 ½" x 12 ½". Attach the two sections and press as shown (Dia. C). (Dia. C) Row 4 4-Patch Blocks: Using the Fussy Cut Striped Script 4 ½" squares, sew two to the Aqua Dot fabrics, pressing seams toward the Aqua Dot fabric. Sew the two squares together to make a 4-Patch block. Make a second 4-Patch block using the Fussy Cut Striped Script 4 ½" squares and the Green Dot fabrics. Lay out 4-Patch blocks with 8 ½" Turquoise Birds squares and sew together. Trim the love Pink Tonal appliqué block to be 8 ½" x 12 ½" and sew to the end of Row 4 and press as shown (Dia. D). (Dia. 6 Borders (Press all seams toward each added border.) STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 6 of 10 Inner Border: Pin and sew the 4 ½" x 44 ½" Orange Dot fabric borders to the top and bottom of the quilt. Pin and sew the 4 ½" x 52 ½" Orange Dot borders to the left and right sides of the quilt. Quilt should now measure 52 ½" x 52 ½". Top and Bottom Extra Border: Pin and sew the 4 ½" x 52 ½" White Clothesline fabric to the top and bottom of the quilt. Quilt should now measure 52 ½" x 60 ½". Middle Border: Pin and sew the 3 ½" x 58 ½" Aqua Floral Tonal borders to the sides of the quilt. Pin and sew the 3 ½" x 60 ½" Aqua Floral Tonal borders to the top and bottom of the quilt. Quilt should now measure 58 ½" x 66 ½". Outer Border: Pin and sew the 6 ½" x 58 ½" Stripe Fabric to the top and bottom of the quilt. Make 2-Patch corners using the Fussy Cut 3 ½" x 6 ½" rectangles from the Panel and the 3 ½" x 6 ½" Orange Dot rectangles. Be sure to make mirror images for the left and right side of the quilt. Attach Fussy Cut doll squares to the top and bottom of the 6 ½" x 66 ½" Stripe fabric. Sew to the right and left sides of the quilt. Completed quilt should measure 70 ½" x 78 ½" (Dia. F). (Dia. F)

7 STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 7 of 10 Layering and Quilting Finishing Press the quilt top. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, and pressed quilt top (right side up). Baste well. Either machine or hand quilt according to personal preference. Trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. Embellishments Using ⅜" Black rick rack, pin in place in a swag (refer to the picture of the quilt for placement). Sew buttons at each end and two places in the middle to create 3 swag sections for the clothesline. Little Dresses Note: The little dresses are sewn with raw edges, meaning the hems and the arm holes are just cut or torn, not turned under, and finished. This method is to make it easier for a young girl to make her own doll clothes. Edges may be turned under and hemmed by hand using a running stitch. Use leftover bits of fabric for some of the trims. Dress: Place front pattern on fold of Orange Dot Fabric and back not on fold. Cut out the dress front using "V" neck marking and the back using the round neck marking. With right sides together, sew using ¼" seams at the shoulders and sides. Turn right side out and hand or machine stitch the embellishments (buttons, leftover words from Panel, rick rack and lace at hem of dress). Armholes can be hand or machine stitched if desired. Repeat the same techniques for the shell top, using the Yellow Bird fabric, rounded neck and shorter length. Tear a strip of fabric from the Aqua Dot fabric 1 ½" x wof. Gather slightley and sew to the bottom of the top. Skirt: Using a 5" x 25 ½" torn width of White Script fabric, fold and pin little pleats in place to make the waist about 13 ½" - 14" (to fit the dolls waist and have an overlap for the snap) in length. To tear fabric, clip with scissors about ½" in selvage and with two hands, pull the two pieces apart. It should tear very easily. Press the pleats in place and sew using a decorative stitch to hold the pleats in place, removing pins as you sew. Sew another decorative stitch at the hem area if needed or turn under about ¼" and hand stitch using a running stitch. Sew snap to back of skirt for closure. Skirt is complete. Pin to the rick rack clothesline using safety pins. Binding Using the five 2 ½" binding strips, cut ends at 45-degree angles, and sew end-to-end to make one continuous strip. With wrong sides together, fold in half lengthwise and press. Matching raw edges, sew binding to the front of the quilt and turn fold of binding to the back. Finish by hand using a blind hem stitch.
