Classic Elite Yarns Spring Knit-a-Long KAL wrap up June 30 New Date for KAL Finale two extra weeks to get your projects completed. Choose a design from any of CEY s spring books: 1701, 1702A, 1702B, 1703, 1704, It s fine (more than fine!) to make more than one project. Show us your completed project(s) before 7:00 pm on Friday, June 16. Your name will be entered in the prize drawing 1 time for every 100 yards of yarn used in your project. The CEY KAL prize drawing will be Friday, June 16 30, at 7:00 pm. Grand Prize will be a basket with $100 worth of good things for knitters. Other prizes will be gift certificates to downtown Valparaiso restaurants and various items from around Sheep s Clothing. Sonki Anthea Poncho MAY
Frost Flowers Lace Scarf This lace pattern appears in Barbara Waliker's first Treasury of Knitting Patterns. Her research found that this pattern dates to the early 19th century and possibly even earlier. Most lace patterns involve action on only one side of the fabric. Frost Flowers has action on both sides of the fabric, which will be an enjoyable challenge for advanced lace knitters. Your scarf will worked be in two pieces and invisibly joined with kitchener stitch. 10:30 am to 12:30 pm June 24, July 1, 15 $40 plus yarn Teacher: Heidi MAY
Short Row Camp July 8 or August 5 Spend a summer taking 5 mini classes on 5 different ways to make short rows. Wrap and Turn Yarn Over Japanese German Twin Stitch (aka Shadow Wrap) Details forthcoming. MAY
Building Blocks Crocheted Shawlette You will spend class 1 learning the basic stitch pattern for this piece and getting a good start on your shawlette. You'll begin with a few stitches at the center back of the neck and build outwards until your piece has reached your desired size. In class 2 you'll apply an edging to your shawl and add Romanian crocheted cords with yarn tassels. The weight of the cord and tassels helps the shawlette to sit comfortably on your shoulders. 1 to 3 pm May 6, 20 $40 plus supplies Teacher: BJ MAY
All Day Felted Yarn Bowl Want an unbreakable, light weight yarn bowl that conveniently squishes to fit in your project bag? Susan has created a pattern for a knitted and felted yarn bowl that will do just that. You ll begin on double pointed needles at the center bottom of the bowl. Then you ll work on circular needles to create the bowl shape. After the bowl is felted down in the washing machine, you ll cut the slot to guide your knitting yarn for smooth knitting. 10:30 am to 4:30 pm June 17 $45 plus supplies Teacher: Susan MAY
Dare to Repair Challenge yourself to understand your knitting in a way that you never have before. Learn the anatomy of a happy, balanced knit stitch. See how stitches fit together to form a knit fabric. Using bulky and medium weight swatches, we will practice, practice, practice some of the most useful repair moves so that you can confidently perform basic repairs and get back to your knitting. Friday 1 to 3 pm June 16, 23, 30 $40 plus supplies Teacher: Paula Crochet Swing Vest Crochet top down to create an airy, open front cardie vest for warmer days. We ll choose a lightweight, self-striping yarn to show off the mitered lines in this piece. Our current favorite yarns are Bella Lino, a linen and cotton blend from Classic Elite and Amitola, a light wool and silk blend from Louisa Harding. Thursday 5 to 7 pm June 15, 29 $40 plus supplies Teacher: Paula MAY
Take a Bow Lauren Riker s Take a Bow can be worked as a top or a dress. This cap sleeve, boat neck piece can be dressed up for special occasions or dressed down for casual occasions with jeans. There will be no increasing or decreasing in pattern to interrupt the flow and enjoyment of knitting the lace. You ll be working with a DK weight yarn which will make it easier to see your stitches. It s also an excellent project for improving your lace knitting and chart reading skill sets. Monday 5 to 7 pm May 15, 22, June 5, 19 $50 plus supplies Teacher: Heidi Fair Isle Felted Tote Susan s design for a felted tote uses small, traditional Fair Isle designs. You ll learn the essentials of successful color stranding and get a chance to practice, practice, practice. The final felting process will hide any imperfections and turn your very first Fair Isle project into a project to be proud of. Friday 3 to 5 pm May 12, 19 plus 2 classes TBA $50 plus supplies Teacher: Susan MAY
Pilsner Pleats or Horseshoe Lace Top Pilsner Pleats and Horsehoe Lace are two easy to learn lace patterns that make for great summer knitting. Get to know your chosen stitch pattern while making rectangular front and back panels for your top. Then create the A-line side panels by adding extra stitches between the columns of lace and gradually decreasing those extra stitches. Join the four panels with perfect mattress stitch seams. Finish by knitting up of stitches for the neckline and armhole edges. Choose a wooly wintery yarn or an all season plant fiber. Extend the wearing time of your piece by wearing it as a vest over a liner top with sleeves. Tuesday 3 to 5 pm OR 7 to 9 pm June 20, 27 July 11, 18 $50 plus supplies Teacher: Paula Horsehoe Lace Calla Lilly Pilsner Pleats Start a garden in wool this spring. This flower involves absolutely no knitting or crochet. You'll be working with wool roving, which is wool just one step before it's turned into yarn. In the short space of 2 hours you'll get a taste of two very different felting processes, needle felting and wet felting. It's wet and a little messy, but lots of fun and the results are beautiful. 1 to 3 pm June 24 $40 includes supplies Teacher: Susan Childress MAY
Lillie or Lyle s Little Sweater This hooded baby raglan cardigan is sized from newborn to 36 months. Work top down beginning with the hood. Button bands and button holes are worked in as you go. There will be absolutely no finishing other than working in your tails. This design works up quickly in a variety of medium weight yarns. Invest some time in learning this design and you will be able to whip up baby gifts in no time at all. Pattern also includes baby doll, preemie, hood, and no hood versions 1-3 pm July 15, 22, 29 $50 plus supplies Teacher: Susan MAY
Decouverte Vest As much as we knitters enjoy knitting texture, whether lace or cables or other stitch patterns, there is a time and a place in every knitter's life to enjoy some peaceful and meditative plain stocking stitch knitting. The back is tailored with armhole and waist shaping. The fronts hang in a graceful drape. Decouverte may become your favorite three season layering piece. Debbie chose Fine Donegal by Debbie Bliss for her first version of this piece. The richness of the tweed will help you enjoy every stitch. Her newest version is in Lanaknits Allhemp, 100 percent hemp yarn for a four season version of this yarn. Thursday 5 to 7 pm June 8, 22, July 6, 13 $50 plus supplies Teacher: Debbie Wonderful Wallaby A hoodie with a handwarmer kangaroo pouch.
