1 Fall 2012 Classes at Lakeside Fibers! We have an exciting lineup of classes and we are especially delighted and honored to have Amy Hendrix, President of Madelinetosh yarns, teach a workshop on color theory! You won't want to miss this EXCLUSIVE opportunity to learn from the creative genius behind the amazing Madelinetosh colorways! And our very own designer extraordinaire, Sheryl Thies, author of Get Hooked on Tunisian Crochet (as well as several other books, including the ever-popular Ocean Breezes and Nature's Wrapture) is back to teach Tunisian Crochet! Madelinetosh Color Theory & Design Workshop with Amy Hendrix, President of Madelinetosh What you will learn: - General color theory and how light alters color perception. - The Albers color theory and the importance of understanding how colors interact with one another. - What color pairings great artists have chosen historically to create stunning palettes. - How to combine colors to generate complimentary pairings in your knitting. - How to select colors to pair with your hair, eyes and/or complexions. - How to include bright colorways in your knitting in ways you will actually wear. - Warm vs. cool color relationships, how to balance them and why. - The beauty of analogous color schemes, creating subtle color palettes with depth and definition. - How to create modern color palettes, and what modern artists practice often but never say. This workshop will provide students with a fun and fascinating introduction to the basic concepts of a range of theories regarding the use of color. Many have thought color selection is intuitive and unable to be learned. Yet, by combining simple concepts, a smidge of history and a little fun with colored pencils everyone can understand and apply both historical and modern color palettes and concepts in their crafting projects. Date: Saturday, September 29 Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm Cost: $50 Supplies: Please bring a set of colored pencils or pastels and gridded paper as well as a pen/pencil for notes! Beginning Tunisian Crochet with Sheryl Thies Sheryl Thies will be teaching the Tunisian Crochet class. Be on the forefront of stitching.

2 This particular form of "crochet" produces a richly textured, woven-like fabric. Tunisian Crochet is super easy, it's sort of like a mixture of knitting and crocheting and it works up really fast!! Date: Wednesday, October 3 Tunisian Crochet II: Sangria Surprise with Sheryl Thies Madison's very own designer extraordinaire and best-selling author (Ocean Breezes, Nature's Wrapture, Get Hooked on Tunisian Crochet) Sheryl Thies will teach the stitches necessary to make these wraps found in her book. Skill Level: Must know basic Tunisian Crochet. Date: Wednesday, October 17 Supplies: Scrap DK yarn and Tunisian hook. Cornshawl with Sheryl Thies Get Corny! Don't "slip" up and miss the fun of creating rows and rows of corn kernels. The slip stitch technique creates a soft yet densely textured fabric. The two buttons and one button hole closure provides several styling options for staying warm this fall. Date: Wednesday, October 10 Supplies: Pattern and materials listed in Knitting by Nature by Sheryl Thies. Crochet for Knitters with Sheryl Thies Crocheted edges are a nice, beautiful way to finish a knitted piece. You'll learn a few easy crochet stitches that will take you a long way to creating beautiful edges. Skill Level: Advanced beginner. Date: Wednesday, October 24 Color Affection One of Ravelry's hottest patterns! More garter stitch and stripes to love.

Knitting with Beads: River Rock Scarf This stunning scarf is easy and fun! Learn to knit with beads and follow a chart. Skill Level: Advanced Beginner: must know how to knit and purl with confidence! Supplies: No. 6 seed beads, Big Eye needles, 400 yards of fingering weight yarn Dutch Cowl Learn Patti's tricks to knit this luxury Cashmere cowl! You will learn this elegant and easy stitch pattern on our Sample cowls, so you don't have to practice on your luxury yarns! Date: Wednesday, September 26 plus cost of yarn Pre-requisite: Must purchase 2 skeins of Jade Sapphire Silk Cashmere or Mongolian Cashmere 2 ply from Lakeside Fibers or The Knitting Tree to receive FREE Dutch Cowl Pattern. Homework: Purchase yarn at The Lake or The Tree. Cast on stitches prior to class, and we will join in-the-round together during class. Basic Toe-Up Socks Turn your world upside down with toe-up socks! If you hate Kitchener Stitch, these are the socks for you. Learn Judy's Magic Cast-on, short-row heels and a stretchy bind-off. 4 Fair Isle/Stranded Knitting: Peerie Flooers Hat Learn Kathy's "no-fail" tips for stranded knitting and make this great hat in either a slouchy or snug version. In this two-session class, you'll learn about color dominance, the trick to even tension in stranded knitting, how to secure your floats and Kate Davies crown shaping. Date: Wednesdays, October 3 & 17 Cost: $40 Beginning Knitting: Baby Sweater Learn the basics of knitting while making a cute baby sweater. You will learn to follow a pattern, cast on, knit, bind off, and finish this garter stitch sweater. Skill Level: None. This class is for newbies! Date: Wednesdays, September 26, October 3 & 17 Cost: $60 Oops! I Made a Mistake! Learn three basic ways to take control of your knitting: 1) unknit aka tinking, 2) frog back to the correct row, 3) pick up a dropped stitch. Choice of Dates: Tuesday, October 9, 1-3pm Or: Wednesday, October 24, 5:30-7:30pm Supplies: Crochet hook Homework: Knit a worsted weight square 6 inches x 6 inches; DO NOT bind off! Basic Seaming Take the mystery (and the fear) out of seaming. You will learn mattress stitch, shoulder seaming and stitch to V seaming. Skill Level: Advanced beginner Homework: Four, 4-inch swatches knit in stockinette stitch in a light-color worsted weight yarn.

5 Seaming II: Easing a Set-in Sleeve Take the frustration out of setting in sleeves and make your sweater look professionally finished. Skill Level: Advanced beginner Date: Wednesday, October 10 Cost: $30 Supplies: Tapestry needle (we will supply practice swatches) CLASS POLICIES -Class fees do not include supplies unless otherwise noted. After that, fees are non-refundable. - In the case of inclement winter weather, students will be notified via telephone on the day of class. Please provide a daytime telephone for that purpose.
