3 All Day Mitten Add the practical art of mitten making to your skill set in this all day class. Your class mitten will be done in a bulky yarn so that you can complete it during class. You ll work with our own shop mitten pattern written for all sizes and weights of yarn. Once you master this mitten making formula, you ll never be more than a couple hours away from a new pair of mittens and warm hands for anyone on your knit list. Saturday 10:30 am to 4:30 pm January 5 Teacher: Debbie Oven Mitt Knit and felt your own oven mitts in time for holiday baking. When you grab the mitt to pull cookies out of the oven you will appreciate the superior insulating properties of a thick wool felt. Make you mitts in cheerful color stripes or all one color. 4 Crochet Jacket Jenny King s Crochet Jacket is worked in Noro Silk Garden. It uses the most familiar crochet stitches to create a raglan shrug. The shrug is surrounded by a large circle of crochet that becomes the shawl collar, draped fronts and lower back. Add long sleeves and you will be enveloped in cozy crochet. 5 Socks: Cuff Down Begin your sock at the cuff so you will have plenty of time to get comfortable knitting in the round on small needles before learning how to shape the heel and toe with a heel flap and gusset. Finish the sock with kitchener stitch so that there will be no seam at the toe of your socks. This is the preferred class for first time sock knitters. Tuesday 5 to 7 pm January 8, 15, 22, 29 Teacher: Kate Storm Mountain Ready for a more challenging project? Heidi Kirrmaier s Storm Mountain could be the right project for you. Join Heidi for a 6 session class to make this flutter front cardigan. It is worked top down with raglan shaping created with rows of eyelets. 6 Dare to Repair Challenge yourself to understand your knitting in a way that you never have before. Learn the anatomy of a happy, balanced knit stitch. See how stitches fit together to form a knit fabric. Using bulky and medium weight swatches, we will practice, practice, practice some of the most useful repair moves so that you can confidently perform basic repairs and get back to your knitting. Tuesday 2 to 4 pm January 8, 15, 22 Teacher: Paula Mera Mera is a pop over your head, boxy, layering piece with side seam slits and a wide, cozy turtleneck. It s worked in Aero by Berroco, a lighter than air blend of alpaca, nylon, and wool that has a huge amount of yardage per ball, despite working up at the large gauge of 3 stitches per inch. 7 Rockin, Rows This piece from the prolific shawl designer, Martina Behm, features a large zigzag pattern. Susan s color drenched version is done in 4 self-striping colorways of Perth by Queensland. This piece also works up beautifully when you stripe it yourself, using 2 to 4 colors of a lightweight yarn of your choice. Experienced knitters will enjoy watching the zigzag grow from a small beginning to create a generous triangular shawl. Saturday Jan 12, 19, 26, Feb 9 Teacher: Susan Decouverte Vest As much as we knitters enjoy knitting texture, whether lace or cables or other stitch patterns, there is a time and a place in every knitter s life to enjoy some peaceful and meditative stocking stitch knitting. Julie Hoover s layering piece will provide you with three season versatility. The back is tailored with armhole and waist shaping. The fronts hang in a graceful drape. You ll learn to use circular and double pointed needles while making the hat. You ll also learn to read a multi gauge pattern. The scarf combines the cable, lace, and other stitches you learned in Knitting for Beginners with an emphasis on learning to read your stitches to build your knitting skill set. Thursday Feb 7, 14, 21 6 to 8 pm December Beginners Classes Learn to knit by making swatches of basic stitches. Emphasis is placed on learning to read your stitches so that you can become a confident knitter. Class also includes a taste of lace and cables. OR Friday Feb 22, Mar 1, 8 $40 plus supplies Learn to Crochet Begin your crochet future with a set of 3 classes designed to get you comfortable with the basic crochet stitches. You will begin with the classic granny square and end with a lightweight cowl. Basic finishing skills for crochet fabrics will also be included.
