1 39th annual IOWA MENNONITE RELIEF SALE Johnson County Fairgrounds 4261 Oak Crest Hill Rd SE Iowa City See You Next Year! May 31-June June Sale Book Proceeds go to Mennonite Central Committee to relieve world hunger and meet human needs in more than 50 countries around the world.

2 Welcome to the 39 th annual Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale. Thank you for attending and for helping support the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). We host this annual Sale to help meet human needs through MCC s relief, development, and peace efforts in more than 50 countries around the world. Volunteers from Mennonite and other Anabaptist churches in Iowa plan and carry out this Sale annually. As a result of last year s Sale, 138,000 was given to the work of MCC. We hope you will find enjoyment in the many offerings at this year s Sale as you invest in the lives of people around the world. Please plan to return to next year s Sale on May 31-June 1, Rebecca Beachy Miller & Jim Yoder Executive Committee Co-Chairs Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches, shares God s love and compassion for all in the name of Christ by responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice. MCC envisions communities worldwide in right relationship with God, one another and creation. MCC focuses its work in five strategic areas of service. 1 Caring for the lives and futures of uprooted and other vulnerable people. 2 Providing water, food and shelter first in times of hunger, disaster and conflict, then education and ways to earn income. 3 Working with churches and communities to prevent violence and promote peace and justice. 4 Investing in opportunities for young people to serve in Canada, the U.S. and around the world. 5 Serving with humility and in partnership to meet local needs with local solutions. 3 Mennonite Central Committee Special Projects Make a direct impact on the lives of those in need by supporting these special MCC projects. Donations will be auctioned on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Girls Access to Education in Bangladesh Girls face quite a few barriers to education in Bangladesh, including sexual harassment on their way to and from school. In recent times, the alarming number of suicides committed by young girls shook the nation. This brought the safety and security of girls attending school into question. MCC Bangladesh, for many years, has partnered with Catholic Sisters to help girls get an education. Parents living in remote areas, often Indigenous families, are eager to admit their girls into boarding schools because of the safe environment for education. However, often they are not able to pay full boarding fees and education expenses. MCC grants funds through your donations to the sisters to ensure girls are able to access education. Provide Clean Water Around the Globe Getting clean, reliable water has been a concern for many years in developing countries. Through your generous donations they can help in projects such as providing hygiene & sanitation education and building wells in Ethiopia; providing filters & pumps and building wells in Mozambique; and helping to bring water to the crops in India by supplying pipes, plumbing items, and constructing gravity flow water systems.
