1 TH AVENUE NORTH, MAPLE GROVE, MN FALL/WINTER 2015/16 Class Schedule It s another amazing season at the shop. We are filled with new yarns, new samples, new gadgets and more. We Inspire. You Create. Trends continue with lots of shawls, color work, wonderful accessories and sweaters that fit. Our teaching staff has created another great schedule of classes for all levels of knitters and crocheters. We continue with Custom Fit led by Mary Jane. Mary Jane will be offering a year of dates for you to finish your Custom Fit Sweater and knit at your own pace. Deb has added color work classes and more. She will continue to offer Works in Progress/Finish It (WIPs) once per month. Fey has added lots of crochet classes and skill builders to refine your crochet skills. Our teaching staff has offered projects ranging from simple to advanced. We will continue to offer Knit-Alongs for those knitters with the skills to complete the project and knit in a social group throughout the fall and winter. Oneto-one knitting or crochet with an expert are still available for $30 an hour and can be arranged by calling the shop. We will also provide a Help Desk for our customers each month for simple fixes on Amazing Threads projects. In addition to classes, we have lots of events planned each month. In September we welcome the Shibui Fall Trunk Show 2015 to the shop, September 1-15, and Louet will be here, September 11-12, with lots of yarn and spinning wheels, too. Mira Cole from Baah Yarns will join us in October. In November we will return to Grandview Lodge for a great retreat and then before we know it the Holidays will be here. 2 GENERAL INFORMATION & POLICIES Which Level Are You? Beginner: Projects for first-timers using basic stitches, such as cast on, knit, and cast off. Easy: You know the basics about knit and purl stitches but you feel that you need help with most of the other stuff because you re still a fairly new knitter. Easy Plus: You know how to cast on, knit, purl, can do a simple increase and a simple decrease, and bind off. Intermediate: You can do all the beginner stuff, and know that there is more than just one way of making an increase and decrease and are ready to try something new. Class Materials The cost noted for each class is for instruction. Yarn and pattern or book are in addition to the class fee. Any exceptions are noted in class descriptions. Yarn for class must be purchased at Amazing Threads prior to the beginning of each class. Receive 10% off your yarn Refund Policy Amazing Threads reserves the right to cancel a class one week prior to the start date of the class. Class fees will be refunded to the customer. Cancellation by students must be made at least two weeks prior to the start date in order to receive a full refund. After that date fees are not refundable or transferable. Missed classes cannot be rescheduled. Return Policy Returns within 14 days of purchase will be refunded by type of sale. Returns are accepted on non-sale, unused yarns within 60 days of receipt date for even exchanges or store credit. We reserve the right to refuse return of goods that are damaged, worn, opened, or smell of smoke. Wound yarn is not returnable. Itemized receipt is required! No refunds on needles, patterns or books. Knit Club Membership $50 per year and includes: Free patterns of the month. 15% discount on yarn for the pattern of the month. 3 Fall/Winter Winter/fall 2015/ /13 SOCIAL FIBER GROUPS & Help Table If you love to work with yarn to create things and want to meet people with the same interests, these social groups are for you. Each group charges a $5 fee that is applied to a purchase of $20 or more on the date of attendance. Attendance is free to Knit Club Members (KCM). These social fiber groups are supported with staff that can assist with simple knit or crochet questions. SSK (Sit, Sip & Knit) Each Tuesday morning a group of knitters and crocheters gather. Bring your lunch and a favorite stitching project and join the group. $5 Each Tuesday of the month 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Knit-Along Throughout the year we offer various types of Knit- Alongs (KAL) & Classes on Demand. KALs in the last year included shawls, mittens, dolls, and more. KALs provide our customers an opportunity to knit in a group setting on a specific project, but KALs do not include instruction. We have several on tap for this fall. We will be doing at least 1 KAL for the Knitted Dolls in October. Join us in October for Wandering Moon, a beautiful crescent-shaped shawl knit with the lovely yarn, Rylie by Hikoo. The shawl will be featured in the limited edition color, Power Pink. This specially dyed yarn is a deep berry hue that complements everyone. Rylie is also available in 16 other beautiful colors. The shawl uses exciting techniques and stitches new to the KAL series. Increase your skills and create a wearable work of art! Classes On Demand (COD) are offered when teaching staff find that perfect project that they want to share with our customers. KALs and CODs are updated in our weekly blasts and on our website. Knit Night You will find a unique group of yarn enthusiasts each Tuesday evening. Work on a project with friends and/or make new friends and relax with a cup of coffee, tea or water. You'll enjoy the evening in the company of others who love to knit and crochet! $5 Each Tuesday evening of the month 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Knit & Crochet Help Desk Many people stop in for a quick fix on a project and we try to get them back on track. However, often we are just too busy to help on-the-fly. Throughout the year, we provide an expert to help with QUICK FIXES we now do on the fly. The Help Desk is for simple fixes for customers knitting on yarn purchased from Amazing Threads. We want you to love your project. Let Mary Jane help you get on track and make your project soar. We have Knit with the Expert available by appointment for those needing more than a quick fix. Sundays, September 27, October 11 & 25, November 1 & 8, December 13 & 20, January 3 & 31, February 14 & 21, March 6 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Sundays, September 13, March 20 2 p.m.-4 p.m. SKILL BUILDERS All classes require students to bring worsted weight yarn (wool or wool blend), needles appropriate to the yarn & scissors. No additional materials are required unless specified. Brain Frieze Join Kate for this one session class and get hooked on slipped stitches. Love the textured look of this project. It looks like complicated Fair Isle but it is so easy and fun to work. There is just enough stitching in the project to keep your brain engaged but each row is very simple to work. It is a simple 10 row repeat pattern and 4 of the rows are plain knitting. The colors change every 10 rows which keeps your interest. So FUN. Easy Plus (KC) $18 Saturday, September 26 How to Read Crochet Patterns Do you know how to crochet, but feel like patterns are a foreign language? You re not alone! Many of us crocheters learn how to do the stitches from a family member or friend, and don t learn to read the patterns until much later. And it s true, reading a pattern can be scary... but well worth learning how! Once you can read a pattern, you ll be able to make anything. Easy Plus (FAH) $18 Sunday, September 27 2 p.m.-4 p.m. 1

4 SKILL BUILDERS Seaming You ve finished knitting the pieces of a beautiful project and it s time to stitch it together. Which seaming techniques should you use? In this workshop, you ll learn several seaming techniques and when to use them. Supplies: darning needle, extra yarn, US H crochet hook, extra knitting needle in same size as you are using on your squares. Homework: Knit and bind off, eight-4 squares as follows: 2 in garter stitch, 4 in stockinette stitch, 2 in whatever pattern you like, but do NOT bind off these 2 squares. Leave them on the needles with yarn attached. Easy Plus (DC) $18 Sunday, October 11 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Linen Scarf The crochet linen stitch is one of the easiest and most beautiful stitch patterns you can create with a hook. It makes a woven texture that works equally well with yarn that has long colour repeats or short flecks of colour, or uses up leftover yarn in multiple colors. In this class you will learn the stitch technique and receive assistance to start a scarf or other simple project. Easy Plus (FAH) $18 Wednesday, October 21 Traditional Granny Square Learn to make the timeless granny square! This crochet technique can be made into squares that are pieced to make a bigger blanket. You will complete at least one square in class. Play with color to make them all different! Students must be comfortable with the double crochet stitch or have taken a Learn to Crochet class. Easy Plus (FAH) $18 Sunday, October 25 Cast On, Bind Off 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Casting on and binding off can be firm or stretchy and everywhere in between. In this skill builder you will learn a few of each of these and we ll talk about the projects best suited for each of them. Easy Plus (MJT). $18 Sunday, October 25 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Double Point Knitting Learn how to use DPNs and whip up a coffee cozy. Deb will be your guide to working with multiple needles in the round while working up a cozy for your cuppa joe. Easy Plus (DC) $22 Sunday, November 8 12 p.m.-3 p.m. Correcting Mistakes Things happen while knitting that we didn t want or expect. Stitches fall off the needle and drop down a few rows, stitches get twisted, just to name a few. This class will focus on a number of the most common errors that occur and teach you how to fix them to make your finished project beautiful. Supplies needed: Crochet hook, darning needle, a few feet of lighter weight yarn. Homework: Knit a 6 square in stockinette stitch and leave it on the needles with yarn attached. Easy Plus (MJT). $18 Sunday, November 8 Three Colorwork Coffee Sleeves 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Do you need some quick gifts or stocking stuffers? These colorful coffee (cocoa or tea) cozies are perfect projects! Quick-to-knit using 3 to 5 colors. You knit with no more than two colors at once (a good introduction to Fair Isle/Stranded knitting). Duplicate stitch is used to fill in extra details. Knit one or all three designs the more the merrier! Easy Plus (DC) $28 plus pattern Mondays, March 7 & 28 Knitting Cables Cables make a bold statement in any garment or accessory. Cables are so easy to knit but the thought often intimidates knitters. Learn how to read cable jargon, create a cable in your knitting and the best tools for creating cables. Crochet stitches start from a basic chain that is in turn started with a slip knot. Once you know how to make a chain and work your way back along the chain you will know how to crochet. It s that simple, really! We will also learn the basic stitches of crochet: single, double, and triple crochet. You will also learn to read/understand stitch abbreviations and basic patterns! Students will create a fabulous dishcloth while learning the stitches. By combining mosaic color work with simple lace a fabric is created that allows the cowl to be collapsed down around your neck and ears to keep them snuggly and warm. Worked in Baah Obsidian and Burmese Ruby, the soft and deeply colored Baah Yarn almost glows from within. We carry all of Baah s colors in their varied yarns so there are lots of color options. Based on the mosaic pattern found in Babara s Golden Lion Throne shawl. As with all mosaic color work, you are knitting with only one strand of yarn at a time while strategically slipping yarn in the opposing color. Simple lace is worked at the same time, creating an intriguing effect that looks much harder than it actually is. In this class you will learn to read charts and see how adding simple lace and mosaic slipped stitch creates the wonderful texture in this tall cowl. Even better, the size can be adjusted by adding more stripes. It is fun to knit and surprisingly easy. Chilkat Cowl by Romi Hill Romi designed this cowl for her Alaska cruise teaching adventure this past June. The Chilkat cowl is a lace skill builder with jogless stripes and a knitted on edging. Because it s lacy, the cowl is extra long so that the folds of knitting will trap air and keep your neck warm. The top can also be pulled up over your head with plenty to spare for your shoulders! Worked in the round using sport weight yarn, it s like wearing a big hug. Pattern contains both written and charted instructions. The charts are designed to be used with the written instructions and are also fully written out. This 4 session class will start with a provisional cast on and each week you will learn the lace patterns and finally the knit on edging.
