1 A few notes about PDF patterns from Designs by Jude.... This PDF pattern requires legal size paper (8.5 x 14 ) or A4 size paper (8.27 x 11.69, 210mm x 297mm). It will not print on standard letter. Patterns containing larger pieces will need to be taped together before cutting out the fabric. Be advised that this document needs to be printed to it s original scale. 3 Fabrics and Notions Top: Skirt: Wrap: Notions: Formal Evenings for Tyler Lightweight satins, silks and crepes. Fancy stretch knits, Lycra and Spandex blended knits and weaves. Lightweight satins and silks 7ct. snap sets, approx. 3 of jewelry chain, matching thread General Instructions Layout and cut all pattern pieces, following the grain line indicated on pattern. Seam allowance is ¼ and is already included within the dimensions of the pattern. Unless noted otherwise, you will use this seam allowance throughout construction. Waxed thread is recommended for hand sewing RST = Right Sides Together, WST = Wrong Sides Together When using stretch knits it is important to use your machine s stretch knit stitch feature. This dress has a very close fit and does not use snaps or any other type of closure. Failure to use a stretch stitch may result in broken seams when you fit the dress to your doll. Skirt: 1. RST, sew skirt side front to skirt front. RST, sew skirt side back to skirt side front. RST sew skirt back to skirt side back. RST, sew skirt backs together stopping at dot. Clip seam allowance at dot and fold skirt opening to one side. Clip all seam allowances at curves and corners and press seam allowances open or finish with an overlock or zigzag stitch. 2. Overlock bottom raw hem edge of skirt and press under, WST approx. ¼ and secure hem into place using a blind hem stitch. 3. Cut a fabric strip on the bias ¾ x 6 for the waist band facing. Finish one long edged of waist band facing with an overlock or zigag stitch. RST, sew raw edge of waist band facing to raw edge of waist. Trim away excess band. Fold waist band facing over seam allowance so that the wrong side of the facing is facing the wrong side of the skirt. Press waist edge of skirt smooth. 4. Fit skirt to doll. Mark placement for 3 snap sets in back skirt opening. Snaps should not be visible from right side of skirt when they are secured. The folded edge of the opening should overlap the raw edge of the opening. Secure snaps into place using waxed thread and needle. Top: 5. RST, sew top side front to top front. RST, sew top side back to top side front. RST sew top back to top side back. Clip curves and press seam allowances open. To reduce bulk I did not line the top. Instead I turned the armholes, neckline and one side of the center back under, WST approx. 1/4 and blind hemmed them into place. Applying a very lightweight fusible interfacing to the wrong side of the top fabric will aid in this construction method. 6. RST, unfold armhole and neckline folds and sew front of top to back of top along raw edge of shoulder. Refold armholes and neckline. WST, fold bottom raw edge of top under approx. 1/4 and secure hem into place with a blind hem stitch, just as you did before. You may need to clip some curves to get a neat flat finish. 7. Fit top to doll, overlap folded center back edge of top over center back raw edge and mark placement for 4ct. snap sets. Secure snap sets so that they are not visible from the right side of the top when it is secured closed. Wrap: 8. RST, sew wrap pieces together along outside raw edges, leaving an un-sewn opening between the notches. Clip curves and grade allowance as needed. Turn wrap right side out and press edges smooth.

4 9. WST, create the fold for the collar by following the fold line on pattern. You may be able to finger press this fold otherwise carefully press with a warm iron. Be careful while handling the wrap as it is cut on the bias and will easily distort. 10. Using waxed needle and thread, from right side of the wrap, pinch along small fold line on pattern and secure fold into place. Using a warm iron create pleats from the fold down, do not press the pleat above the fold. 11. Fit wrap to doll. Some adjusting of the collar and pleats may be needed. Mark placement for the chain and trim chain length as need. From under side of the wrap, secure chain to wrap on each side using waxed thread and needle. Your stitches should not be visible from the right side of the wrap.
