The club will meet from 12:00 to 1:30 pm Thursday August 8 th at the Maritime Museum instead meeting at St. Peters. One year, I decided to buy my mother-in-law a cemetery plot as a Christmas gift... The next year, I didn't buy her a gift. When she asked me why, I replied, "Well, you still haven't used the gift I bought you last year!" And that's how the fight started... John Burnett Rotarian of the Day and Program Speaker My wife and I were watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said, 'Do you want to have sex?' 'No,' she answered. I then said, 'Is that your final answer?' She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying, 'Yes..' So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend." And that's when the fight started... My wife and I were sitting at a table at her high school reunion, and she kept staring at a drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table. I asked her, "Do you know him?" "Yes," she sighed, "He's my old boyfriend... I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear he hasn't been sober since." "My God!" I said, "Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?" And that s when the fight started... 4 Partner Policy Approved at the Board of Director s Meeting April 16, 2013 Effective immediately, the Board of Directors unanimously adopted the following: Each partner is charged the usual initiation fee and annual dues Each partner-pair is charged a minimum of $15/meeting for the meal If both partners are absent the partner-pair is only charged $15 If 2 make-ups are presented to the Sergeant at Arms in a timely manner (i.e. within 2 weeks) this charge is waived If one partner is present, the charge is $15 If both partners are present, the charge is $30 Both partners are charged the gift fee for the annual Head Start Christmas Party Charges for attendance at all other DMRC and District events are on a per person in attendance basis, just as it is for other members Recommended donations to TRF and the DMRC Foundation Trust remain unchanged. Since these donations are voluntary, a partner-pair can adjust their contributions to meet their personal financial situation Both members of each partner-pair are deemed to be ACTIVE MEMBERS by RI. Therefore, both are entitled to attend all DMRC members only events, including the annual Added 7/16/2013 The DMRC Treasurer follows the same bookkeeping procedure (the Rule of 85 ) for the second partner for dues & payments. Polio Eradication Suffers A Setback As Somali Outbreak Worsens NPR July 20, 2013 Somalia hadn't had a case of polio for nearly six years. But in the past few months, the virus has come back. Now the East African country has the worst polio outbreak anywhere in the world. Twenty new cases of polio were reported this week in Somalia by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. That brings the total number of cases in the Horn of Africa to 73. The rest of the world combined has tallied only 59 cases so far this year. Health workers are worried that the virus could gain a foothold in the Horn of Africa and jeopardize the multibillion-dollar effort to wipe out the virus worldwide. DGN Janice Kurth shows the Rotary Club banner from Kampala that she obtained during her recent trip to Africa Until this recent outbreak, global efforts to eradicate polio appeared to be making remarkable progress.
