2 A word from the president: Welcome to the April 2012 meeting of the Permian Basin AADE Chapter. We appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to attend this meeting. Participation and attendance at chapter functions are very important, and a great way to network with industry professionals from both the operator s side and the service sector. It also gives a favorable impression to guest speakers, who often come to Midland at considerable expense, if we have a large and attentive crowd. Our speaker for today will be Danny Kellum, an Executive Vice President with Pioneer Natural Resources, and a former Midland resident. Danny will give an overview of Pioneer s Permian asset base. Sponsors for this meeting are Ulterra, Orbit Construction, and Oilfield Fishing and Rental. The May meeting will revert back to our standard schedule, the second Tuesday in May, which is May 8 th. Our speaker for that meeting will be John Willis with Oxy. John will be discussing horizontal drilling with both rotary steerable and conventional BHA s. In June, our regular meeting will be replaced by our annual sporting clay shoot, which also serves as one of the chapter s fundraisers. The shoot will be held on June 15 th at Windwalker Farms. The AADE Technical Forum, which will be September 11 th, will cover a topic that is becoming more and more critical by the day, and that is access to and the use of fresh water, as well as treatment and reconditioning of frac flow back water and produced water, and water from non-traditional sources. We will hopefully see what some companies are doing to address this problem. This is a subject that should generate a great deal of interest and we anticipate that this will be an all day event, as opposed to our usual half day technical forum. We will have more details about this forum in the weeks to come. Other events to mark on your calendar are the Permian Basin Chapter Golf Tournament, which will be held on Thursday, October 11 th, at Ranchland Hills Golf Club, and the Texas Tech Student Chapter golf Tournament, which will be held on Friday, October 26 th, at the Rawls Course in Lubbock. This tournament pairs at least one student on each team. Again, thanks for attending and enjoy the meeting. 5 New Mexico Tech Update: April brings busy activity to the NMT Campus in Socorro, NM as our AADE students plan on volunteering and participating in a fundraiser taking place during their Spring Fling weekend at the end of the month. The students have organized a 5K run supporting Brest Cancer Awareness for the weekend. They are currently looking for anyone who is willing to donate to the cause or anyone that would like to go up for the event, if you would like more information about the race or donating please contact Raegan Lumpkin at raegan.lumpkinbakerhughes.com or students participated in a recent Wild Well Control Course that began Friday, March 23, 2012 and concluded Sunday, March 25, Voting for the NMT AADE student section officers were held on March 22, Ballots were passed out at the chapters general meeting and were returned to Karen Balch, NMT Department Admin. 6 Texas Tech Update: The AADE Texas Tech chapter started the month of February with an info session with New Park Resources. The Chapter managed to increase their student members to 240 during the spring of The upcoming events and activities for the month of April are scheduled as follows: an info session with Anadarko on April 3 rd about the Niobrara Shale play and on April 10, 2012, Cudd will host a seminar on directional drilling. The Texas Tech student chapter will hold their officer s election meeting for academic year on April 24, Norton Energy will host a rig tour on April 25 th and 27 th for chapter members. The Texas Tech student chapter would like to thank the Permian Basin chapter for their continuous support! 10 Hello All Shooters! It's time to sign-up for the 13th Annual AADE Sporting Clay Shoot scheduled for Friday, June 15, 2012, at Windwalker Farms. We will have a single afternoon rotation at 1:00pm with the gun drawing immediately following. The range will be split into two separate 11 station courses. There will also be a game of chance for those who choose to participate (purely voluntary). If you are willing to wager a $20 entry fee on your shooting skills, you may be able to earn a little money. The entry money will go into a pot, coupled with a little seed money from the AADE, and the top 50 shooters (that participate) will take home a percentage of the pot. Invitations are being sent out to AADE members and sponsors first. Please send your entry applications back as quickly as possible so you don t get left out! The shoot will be closed at 270 shooters! If you enter a team, but are not sure of your second shooter, don t wait. Send in your application with the full team entry fee and mark the second shooter as TBA. This will ensure your team entry. Don t wait to the last minute to find a partner. Try to fill any open position by May 31 st, Sponsorship forms and shooter entry forms are included in this letter.
