3 About Our Speakers Alex Carrick Alex Carrick did his undergraduate work at the University of Western Ontario and completed an M.A. in Economics at the University of Toronto. After the first year of a Doctorate while living at U of T s Massey College, the lure of the job market was too great and in 1972 Alex went to work for the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC), the trade association for structural steel fabricators in Canada. Carrick later became Secretary-Treasurer as well as Economist for the CISC. Since 1985, Carrick has been Chief Economist with CanaData, the leading supplier of statistics and forecasting information for the Canadian construction industry. Carrick compiles CanaData s Annual Construction Forecast and provides updates throughout the year in the CanaData Forecaster monthly newsletter. His work has become international in scope and he delivers presentations throughout North America on the Canadian, United States and world construction markets. William T. Chisholm Bill Chisholm is President and CEO, of Samuel, Son & Co., Limited. Bill has spent his entire career in the steel industry. Prior to joining Samuel, Bill was with Dofasco and then ArcelorMittal. From 1980 to 2001, he served in a number of increasingly senior operations roles at Dofasco which culminated in his appointment as President, Tubular Products Division. He was then promoted to the position of Chief Operating Officer, ArcelorMittal Tubular Products, where he integrated the North American operations of Dofasco with the assets of Mittal Steel. He was responsible for three business units, operating 26 plants in 13 countries and four continents, while employing over 10,000 employees. From 2009, until the mid-2013, Bill served as Chief Executive Officer for ArcelorMittal, Mexico. He was responsible for the largest integrated steel mill in Mexico, producing four million tons of products for the global market. Bill is a graduate of Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology in Chemical Engineering Technology, and has continued his education at both McMaster University and the Ivey School of Business. Dennis DesRosiers Since the founding of his independent consulting practice in 1985, Dennis DesRosiers has become Canada s leading auto- motive industry analyst and one of the foremost theorists in the North American automotive industry. Over the years, he has developed a multi-task, multi-functional and in-depth approach towards automotive industry analysis, which has resulted in his theories gaining considerable promi- nence throughout the North American industry. Dennis has been described as an analyst who peels away the mysteries of the automotive industry. He has accomplished this by developing unique and original analytical models and also by not being afraid to make interpretive state- ments and draw conclusions, which, in some cases, run contrary to accepted wisdom in the industry. Dennis election in September 2000 to the Board of Governors of The University of Windsor enables Dennis to focus his developmental efforts and practical skills in an important knowledge and learning environment. Brett House Brett House has been Deputy Chief Economist at The Bank of Nova Scotia since October, He serves at Alignvest Investment Management, Tau Investment Management, University of Toronto and Jeanne Sauve Foundation. He is a Founding Member and Member of Advisory Board of TAU Investment Management, LLC. He contributes to the design of its business model and financing strategies His research focuses on macroeconomic growth, trade, sovereign debt restructuring and impact investing. He was a Global Strategist at Woodbine Capital Advisors where he developed a track record of combining quantitative frameworks with qualitative analysis to identify investment opportunities across asset classes in developed, emerging and frontier markets. He has worked in diverse roles in academia, the international public sector and financial markets. Prior to joining Woodbine, he was Principal Advisor on financial issues in Executive Office at the United Nations' Secretary-General, Policy Advisor at the UNDP and Senior Macroeconomist at The Earth Institute, Columbia University. From 2000 to 2007, House was an Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he worked across a wide range of major economies and policy issues. He held academic positions at the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar and at the University of Cape Town, where he was a Rotary Scholar. He also worked in capital markets with the World Bank and emerging markets fixed-income sales and trading with Goldman Sachs. He was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. House holds an M. Phil. in Economics from Oxford and a BA Honours (First Class) from Queen's University, Canada.

4 Chris Montgomery Chris Montgomery currently serves as the Manager, E&P Engagement for the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, the voice of Canada s upstream oil, oil sands and natural gas industry. In this capacity, Chris leads CAPP s stakeholder engagement efforts in communities impacted by oil and gas development, outside the Athabasca oil sands region, and acts as a CAPP media spokesperson. Prior to joining CAPP in 2013, Chris spent more than a decade working in Ottawa in various roles in federal politics, most recently as Director of Parliamentary Affairs to the Leader of the Government in the Senate where he was responsible for advancing the government s agenda through the Upper House of Parliament. He has also served the Leader of the Government of the House of Commons, a Member of Parliament and, as the Manager of Political Operations (Western Canada) for one of Canada s major political parties. Chris is a recipient of The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. The Honourable Tony Valeri, P.C., C. Dir. Valeri joined ArcelorMittal Dofasco in June 2011 from his own firm, Ridge Strategy Group, a public affairs and management consulting company. Tony was a Member of Parliament for four consecutive terms, beginning in During his terms in office, Tony served as Minister of Transport and subsequently led the Government's legislative program as Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. Prior to assuming public office, he was principal of a life and health benefits practice. Tony is a graduate of McMaster University and is actively involved in the community. He is a Director on the Board of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters. Tony is also a member of the McMaster Board of Governors and on the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton and held the position of Board Chair from 2009 to Ed Whalen Ed Whalen is President & CEO of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction and has been in that position since The CISC is the voice for the Canadian steel construction industry. Whalen has been in the steel industry for over 32 years starting his career with a steel fabricator in the capacity of estimator, project manager and welding engineer. He then started an engineering consulting company specializing in welding design and steel inspection. He later relocated to Toronto to join the Canadian Welding Bureau holding numerous senior management positions in the certification, registration and training divisions. Ed was the VP of Business Development with the CWB before joining the CISC. Ed is active in many national and international standards and is the current chairman of the Canadian steel material standard CSA G40.20/.21 and sits on CSA S16, S6, W47.1 and CSA W59. Ed is a registered lobbyist for the CISC in Canada advocating for the success of the Canadian steel construction industry and its employees..
