Since 2006, Helping a Hero has a lifetime average of 90 cents of every donor dollar going to its veterans programs. 5 Roger Clemens Lee Greenwood Award Roger Clemens was one of the most dominant pitchers in major league history pitching 24 seasons in MLB for four teams: Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees and Houston Astros. Clemens left his mark with 354 wins, a 3.12 earned run average (ERA), and 4,672 strikeouts, the third-most all time. An 11-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion, he won 7 Cy Young Awards during his career, the most of any pitcher in history. In 1986, he also received the AL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award, and the All-Star Game MVP Award, and he struck out an MLB-record 20 batters in a single game. Roger Clemens was selected to receive The Lee Greenwood Award from Helping a Hero for his tireless support for our military throughout his career and in retirement. For the past 6 years, Roger has been a major supporter of Helping a Hero. He has participated in multiple Groundbreaking and Welcome Home Ceremonies and has donated numerous auction items for our Gala, funding multiple homes for our wounded warriors. He has also partnered with Helping a Hero to recognize Blue Star Moms and Gold Star families. Roger and Debbie Clemens formed The Roger Clemens Foundation in 1992 and have donated millions of dollars to charities primarily helping at risk children. The Rocket often supports charity by playing in celebrity golf and softball tournaments. Recently he pitched to JJ Watt at the JJ Watt Celebrity Softball Game and received a standing ovation from the packed house at Minute Maid. The Clemens put a high priority on family and prioritize spending time with their 4 sons: Koby, Kory, Kacy and Kody. Honorable David Dewhurst Lifetime Achievement Award David Dewhurst served his country and the State of Texas, first as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, then in the CIA and later as Texas Land Commissioner and Lt. Governor of Texas from 2003 to When he left the CIA, Dewhurst returned to Houston to begin his career in business. In the early 1980s, he started his own company, but like so many other Texas businesses at the time, he lost nearly everything when the oil and gas and real estate markets went bust. Dewhurst gradually built back all that he had lost and more, and earned his reputation as an innovative, tireless and successful businessman. Dewhurst is a disciplined entrepreneur with the character and skill to establish extraordinary relationships and deliver on his promises. During his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, Dewhurst was the chief architect of the Texas Miracle, the largest sustained economic expansion in state history, by cutting taxes 54 times, reducing state spending and maintaining the lightest possible regulatory hand in the country, all targeted at making Texas irresistible for investment and job creation. In government, as he s done consistently in business, Dewhurst built consensus among disparate interests, finding shared goals and forging effective and successful solutions. One of Dewhurst s legacy footprints lauded by our wounded warriors, is that Governor Dewhurst led the effort to eliminate property taxes for our 100% disabled veterans. Dewhurst has now returned to lead Falcon Seaboard in its next chapter of growth. He also maintains his commitment to serving the people of Texas through engagement in public policy and continued involvement in Texas philanthropic groups and their endeavors. Dewhurst received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arizona and attended Georgetown University Law School. A college basketball player at the University of Arizona and champion cutting horse rider, Dewhurst was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2009.

6 John Raley Master of Ceremonies John Raley is one of the top commercial litigators in Texas. John was given a 2013 Presidential Citation by the Texas State Bar in recognition of his seven year pro bono fight in state and federal courts to exonerate Michael Morton, an innocent man who served 25 years in prison. The resultant landmark Michael Morton Act requires prosecutors to provide defense counsel complete access to investigation information. He has been a guest on 60 Minutes, 20/20 and was featured in the documentary, "An Unreal Dream" that aired on CNN. He is a sought after speaker and has inspired many lawyers to accept pro bono cases. John was named 2013 Houstonian of the Year by the Houston Chronicle. In 2014, the Brazos County Bar gave him their annual Atticus Finch Award. John received the 2015 Houston Bar Association President s Award for Pro Bono Service. He has also received the Rotary District 5890 "Service to Humanity" award. Prior to founding Raley & Bowick, John was a litigation partner at Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. and the managing partner of the Houston office of Cooper & Scully, P.C. John is a fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has represented several celebrity clients. In 2013, Texas Lawyer magazine named John one of the top five Impact Players of Texas, and the University of Texas Law School awarded him their annual Texas Jurist Award. He and Kelly, married 32 years, have three adult children. John's hobbies include performing in local theater productions and playing the bagpipes.
