He turns to his mother and says Mom, why is that house going away? She responds without hesitation, It is being demolished to make way for a home that will help families who need a place to stay until they find a permanent place to live. Oh, says Samuel and then perks up as he recalls Like we did before we found this place. Yes, says his mother. For a short time, we needed help in this same way. I like to call those who support this kind of work, community heroes. Samuel smiled and said Cool, we are going to have our very own super hero in the neighborhood! Over the years, thanks to donors like YOU, HomeAid Orange County has developed housing for families experiencing homelessness throughout Orange County. In 2016, HomeAid has several housing developments underway in various stages. The home referenced in the story above is in partnership with the Illumination Foundation (IF) and is based in Stanton, California. A new construction, the IF Emergency House is designed to help up to 8 families at a time and will provide programming to move families into stable housing within a six week period. It will be open by year-end. Funds raised through the Doorways for Hope gala, which takes place on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach, support the IF house as well as HomeAid s other developments.
