112 Honorable Acea M. Mosey Judge Mosey is a lifelong resident of Western New York. She graduated from Amherst High School in She earned a Bachelors in Business Administration degree from Canisius College in 1992 and then went on to the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in Lansing, Michigan. She graduated with her Juris Doctorate in 1994 and was admitted to the New York State Bar in March Having practiced as a private attorney in Surrogate s Court for over twenty years, including 14 years as Erie County Public Administrator under former Surrogate Judge Barbara Howe, Judge Mosey was elected as New York State Surrogate Judge for the County of Erie in November of Judge Mosey was a founding partner with the firm Mosey Associates LLP, formerly known as Mosey Persico LLP, located at 625 Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, New York. She previously served as a Commissioner at the Erie County Water Authority from May 2000 to May 2006, being the first woman to serve as a Commissioner as well as a Chair at this Authority. She gained a vast amount of business experience from her employment with a family-owned, Great Lakes Bureau, Inc. for over twelve years, along with being the trustee of her family s trust which runs and operates, or is involved in, over 20 local companies and businesses. Judge Mosey resides in Buffalo, New York. She is a lifelong member of St. John Maron Church. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Bar Association of Erie County, and the Western New York Women s Bar Association. Judge Mosey has been a proud member of her community, previously serving on several boards including the Greater Buffalo Savings Bank, Canisius College Board of Trustees, The Buffalo Zoo Board as well as the Children s Hospital Foundation. Nicole Komin, Esq. Nicole Komin is a Staff Attorney at the Center for Elder Law and Justice. She created, implemented, and currently coordinates the agency s Pro Bono Program. Nicole works with staff and pro bono partners to create and manage pro bono projects, place cases, match individual volunteers with appropriate clients, and coordinate trainings. She oversees CELJ s student intern program and works with the Kinship Unit, representing grandparents seeking custody of relative children to avoid foster care. Prior to joining the agency, Nicole was an associate at Cohen & Lombardo, P.C., where she specialized in family law, personal injury, and estate planning. Nicole grew up in Western New York, and earned her Bachelor s degree from SUNY at Buffalo in 2010, her Master s in Higher Education Administration from SUNY at Buffalo in 2012, and her Juris Doctor from SUNY Buffalo Law School in Kathleen D. Krauza, Esq. Kathleen Krauza is Chief Clerk of Erie County Surrogate s Court. She attended the University of Dayton School of Law and was admitted to practice in NYS in Rebecca Diina LaCivita, Esq. Rebecca Diina LaCivita has served for more than twelve years as a Court Attorney at the Erie County Surrogate s Court. Prior to joining the court system, Ms. LaCivita was an Assistant District Attorney at the Erie County District Attorney s Office. Ms. LaCivita also was a litigation

113 associate at the law firm of Rupp, Baase, Pfalzgraf, Cunningham & Coppola LLC. Ms. LaCivita is a graduate of Canisius College and Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Linda C. Novotny, Esq. Linda C. Novotny is a Court Attorney-Referee in Erie County Surrogate s Court and has been a member of its legal staff for over 35 years. Prior to joining this Court, she was an attorney for Onondaga County Family Court and then its Surrogate s Court. Linda is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law. Joseph A. Shifflett, Esq. Joseph A. Shifflett is Chief Court Attorney of Erie County Surrogate s Court. Prior to assuming that position in November 2004, he had been Surrogate Judge Barbara Howe s Principal Law Clerk in Surrogate s Court and previously from 1993 when Judge Howe was a New York State Supreme Court Justice. Shifflett served, before that, as Principal Law Clerk for two Erie County Court Judges. Prior to joining the court system, Shifflett was an attorney at the Buffalo Legal Aid Bureau. A graduate of the University of Toronto and the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School, Shifflett is a member of the Bar Association of Erie County, and a past chair of the Criminal Law Committee of the BAEC. He was a long time member of the Erie County Bar Association s Aid to Indigent Prisoners Society, Inc. board of directors. Shifflett currently serves on an OCA committee set up to help implement e-filing in Surrogate s Court in New York State. Molly White, Esq. Molly is a staff attorney with the Center for Elder Law & Justice in Buffalo, NY, with the primary goal of refining and promoting the use of the Legal Risk Detector App throughout the U.S. Molly is also working with Erie County Surrogate s Court to establish and implement a Help Center for unrepresented litigants. Prior to joining the agency, Molly was an associate at Colucci & Gallaher, P.C., where she focused on products liability, personal injury, landlord-tenant matters, and commercial litigation. Molly earned her Bachelor s Degree from SUNY Potsdam in 2009, and her Juris Doctor and Masters in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School in 2012.
