1 ABRAHAM ABUCHOWSKI, PH.D. Biographical Sketch Dr. Abuchowski is the developer of the current gold standard technology for protein drug delivery called PEGylation. The development of this technology was the basis of his PhD thesis at Rutgers University. The discovery earned him the moniker Father of PEGnology. He continued this work as a Postdoctoral Fellow and then as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry. In 1981, Dr. Abuchowski was named a Scholar of the Leukemia Society of America for his work in childhood leukemia. One of the products he developed, Oncaspar, has become the mainstay drug for the treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was also a trustee of the Society and vice president of the Central Jersey Chapter. In 1983 Dr. Abuchowski left the University to commercially develop PEGylation and found Enzon, Inc., and served as its Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Enzon became New Jersey s first Biotech Company to obtain FDA approval of a new product. Dr. Abuchowski helped Enzon mature from a developmental stage company to a fully integrated pharmaceutical company. In a very short 6 1/2 years he was successful in obtaining approval for Enzon s first milestone drug, ADAGEN, the first treatment for a genetic disease of metabolism ( Bubble Boy Disease ). This product also introduced the first and to-date only protein drug delivery approved by the FDA. Enzon's second product, Oncaspar tm, for the treatment of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in children, was approved in His leadership of the Clinical and Regulatory departments led to seven approved Investigational New Drug Applications (IND). Dr. Abuchowski is an internationally recognized authority in drug delivery and has published numerous scientific papers on therapeutic products as well numerous book chapters. He presently serves as a member of several industry and government commissions. In 1990, Dr. Abuchowski was named New Jersey's "Entrepreneur of the Year" for high technology, awarded by Ernst & Young, Inc. magazine, and Merrill Lynch. In 1990, Dr. Abuchowski was named Entrepreneur Business Leader of the Year by New Jersey Monthly magazine. In 1991, the National Organization for Rare Disorders awarded him with their Corporate Leadership Award for outstanding commitment to orphan drug development and making enzyme replacement therapy a reality. Additionally, in 1993, he won the Public Health Service Award for Exceptional Achievements in Orphan Products Development. In November of 1993, he received the Triumphs Through Technology Award from the Los Angeles Chapter of the Leukemia Society of America.

2 Recognizing the need for a unified voice for the Biotechnology companies of New Jersey, Dr. Abuchowski established the Biotechnology Council of New Jersey in 1994 and was elected its first Chairman. The Council has served the Industry at the Federal and State Government level and been instrumental in the passage of legislation favorable to the Biotechnology industry. In 1996 Dr. Abuchowski resigned from Enzon, Inc. and started New Paradigm Consulting, Inc. Later that year New Jersey Business Magazine named him as among the top 100 Business Leaders in New Jersey. The knowledge gained from his diverse experiences was used to aid other entrepreneurs to develop their own business as well as aid growing companies requiring expertise in general management issues, strategic planning and product development. In 2001 Dr. Abuchowski was listed as one of the "Top 50" graduates of Rutgers College of Arts and Sciences and in 2002 was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni. In 2002 Dr. Abuchowski founded Prolong Pharmaceuticals and as its CEO, continues to apply PEGylation technology in the development of novel biopharmaceuticals. In 2005, Dr. Abuchowski received the Dong Sung Pharmaceutical Award in Seoul, Korea for the development of PEGylation technology and the USC Marshall School of Business Outstanding Achievement Award. Dr. Abuchowski was the commencement speaker at Rutgers College of Arts and Sciences, May In 2011 Dr. Abuchowski was honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration with their inaugural Tibbetts Award for leadership in innovation and job creation. Dr. Abuchowski was one of eight individuals recognized, and the only honoree in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry.
