1 Jacek Piekacz Engineer degree and MSc, graduated at Environmental Protection Faculty at Warsaw Technical University. Currently the President of the Board of Vattenfall Poland Sp z o.o. and a Senior Adviser in Vattenfall European Affairs office in Brussels. He is as well the Head of Legislation Group in the Polish CHP Association and the Chairman of the Committee of Polish Clean Coal Technologies Platform. 4 Nigel Yaxley Managing Director, CoalImp (Association of UK Coal Importers) Nigel Yaxley is the founder and Managing Director of CoalImp, the Association of UK Coal Importers. Since 2006 he has developed his consultancy business in the coal and energy field, with clients including UK and international mining businesses, UK companies involved in power generation and equipment manufacture, trade unions, the UK Government and the European Commission. Nigel joined the coal industry in 1977 after graduating in Physics from Cambridge University. He moved to UK Coal in 1995 on privatisation of the industry and was Marketing Director until end From 2005 to 2007 he was President of Euracoal, which represents the interests of European producers and importers on the European stage, and is now Chairman of Euracoal s Market Committee. Nigel is also a member of the UK Coal Forum and the CBI Energy Policy Committee.

5 Mark Johnston Mark is a Senior Policy Advisor in the WWF European Policy team in Brussels. Since 2002, he has contributed to a variety of European energy and environment legislative debates and related policy questions. His experience with regard to coal policy and law-making in particular has included: contributing to the development of Europe s strategy on carbon capture and storage; the appropriate pricing of greenhouse gas emissions from coal use; the control of classical pollutants by way of the new Industrial Emission Directive, and; the Union s control of state aids to coal mining in states where such aids remain in place.
