Drybrushing: I drybrush all of my highlights unless otherwise mentioned. The brush must be dry. When Drybrushing, I load my paint from a dry surface, not a wet palette as the moisture will get into the brush and make the paint go on smudgy. I also keep an old towel handy; it is great for cleaning the brush between colors. To start, load the brush by tipping it into the first color, blend out on palette paper then wipe and 1

3 excess paint off on a paper towel. Lightly scrub the surface to apply the color. Use the brush on its side and scrub side to side or up and down. Start soft then press harder depending how much color you need. The harder you press, the more color you will get. The first drybrush coat should allow some of the background to still show through, additional colors should cover less area that the first coat. Clean the brush as best you can on your old towel, then pick up the next color. Apply in the same manner using less. Tip: I usually have several brushes on the go. Tip: Clean brushes between colors with hand sanitizer then scrub on an old towel to dry. The alcohol dries the bristles quicker than washing. Float / Shade: I always float my color with the angular shaders. Mop to soften with a Mop. I shade around my design elements before basecoating; I like the softer look I get when I do this. Unless other wise indicated, I shade around the entire shape and deepen in corners and under design elements for more depth. Tip: I shade all my designs with a minimum of 2 colors, Drybrushing my highlights between floats. Line: Unless otherwise stated, all lining is done with the #10/0 Liner and the paint watered down to an ink-like consistency. Basecoat: Use the brush that best fits the size of the area to be painted. Tip: I basecoat all my main elements first, then trace on and paint the details. Preparation: Candle: Basecoat entire surface with DecoArt Paint Adhesion Medium. Let Dry. Basecoat (slip slap) with the brush loaded with Winter Blue and corner loaded with Blue Chiffon. Resin Tree Candle Holder: Basecoat the trees with Hauser Dark Green. 2

4 Drybrush with Hauser Medium Green. Drybrush again with Hauser Light Green. Basecoat the tree trunks with Espresso. Shade with Traditional Burnt Umber. Drybrush with Canyon Orange. Basecoat the base with Buttermilk. Apply a wash of Whispering Turquoise to enhance the texture. Drybrush with Buttermilk, then Light Buttermilk. Finish with Warm White. Painting Instructions: Note: Refer to the color photo for shading and detail placement. Yellow House base with Mustard Seed. Shade with Canyon Orange, Highlight with Moon Yellow. Deepen shading with Burnt Sienna. Brighten highlight with Sunny Day. Base the roof with Lamp Black. Drybrush with Blue Chiffon. Base the Windows, door and chimney with Lamp Black. Line with Warm White. Line the fence with Lamp Black. Line and dot with Warm White. Line the tree trunk with Traditional Burnt Umber tipped in Lamp Black. Line the branches with Hauser Light Green. Dot with Red Alert. Line the star with Mustard Seed. Line the snow on the roof, the chimney and the smoke with Warm White. Line and dot the snowflake and roof with Warm White. Drybrush the snow under the house with Light Buttermilk. Highlight with Warm White. 3 Red House base with Country Red. Shade with Cinnamon Drop, Drybrush with Red Alert. Deepen shading with Napa Red. Float highlight with Red Alert. Base the roof with Lamp Black. Drybrush with Blue Chiffon. Base the Windows, door and chimney with Lamp Black. Line with Warm White. Line the weathervane with Lamp Black. Line with Warm White. Base the star with Mustard Seed. Shade with Canyon Orange. Drybrush with Moon Yellow. Float highlight with Sunny Day. Line the snow on the roof, the chimney and the smoke with Warm White. Dot the roof and line the scallops with Warm White.

5 Base the Candy Canes with Light Buttermilk. Base the stripes with Country Red. Line a highlight with Warm White. Drybrush the snow under the house with Light Buttermilk. Highlight with Warm White. Blue House base with Winter Blue. Shade with Shade with Wedgewood Blue. Drybrush with Whispering Turquoise. Deepen shading with Prussian Blue. Float highlight with Blue Chiffon. Base the roof with Lamp Black. Drybrush with Blue Chiffon. Base the Windows, door and chimney with Lamp Black. Line with Warm White. Line the fence with Lamp Black. Line and dot with Warm White. Base the moon with Mustard Seed. Shade with Canyon Orange. Drybrush with Moon Yellow. Float highlight with Sunny Day. Line the snow on the roof, the chimney and the smoke with Warm White. Dot the roof with Warm White. Base the snowman with Light Buttermilk. Shade with Winter Blue. Highlight with Warm White. Line the arms with Lamp Black. Line the nose with Canyon Orange. Dot the eyes and buttons with Lamp Black. Drybrush the snow under the house with Light Buttermilk. Highlight with Warm White. Candle: Base the snow with Buttermilk. Shade along the bottom with Winter Blue. Drybrush with Light Buttermilk. Float highlights with Warm White. Line and dot the snowflakes with Warm White. Finishing: Outline as desired with Lamp Black. Spatter with Warm White. Add Snowtex to the Snowie base and the sides of the trees. Sprinkle with Glamour Dust while still wet. Spray with DecoArt Matte Finishing Spray. 4
