1 Assessment Task No: 1 Major Project Proposal Date Issued: Week 1 Term 4 Date Due: Week 9 Term 4 Weighting % 15% Total Marks 110 SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS Written Folio component to be submitted in PDF form via HIVE by 6pm 07/12/17. Video/presentation to be submitted via personal; delivery (USB) to Mr Junge by 3:15pm 07/12/17. All timber to be on-site (Holy Cross College) by 3:15pm 07/12/17. All research should be supported by a bibliography. CONTEXT (OR PURPOSE) FOR THE TASK The Major Project folio should be a documentary of the development, management and construction stages of the project. It must address the following: -Major Project Folio Headings- Statement of intent Research o Existing solutions (inspiration), o timber to be used (include costing/quotes), o joinery techniques to be incorporated, o power tools to be used, specialised hand tools (not basic tools such as rulers or tri-squares), o finishing materials and techniques (abrasives, finishes such as lacquer or oils). Sketching and idea generation o Hand drawn and converted to Jpeg and inserted into folio Prototyping, modelling and testing o CAD drawings, models (scale) Production and working drawings o Final CAD orthogonal and 3D Drawings Selection and justification of appropriate materials, processes and resources o Final summary (in table format) of final selections for your Major projects for timber to be used (include costing/quotes), o joinery techniques to be incorporated, o power tools to be used, specialised hand tools (not basic tools such as rulers or tri-squares), o finishing material and technique (abrasives, finishes such as lacquer or oils). Evidence of project management including a record of the production of the project o Steps in Construction of all practical work to be undertaken. Project Management o Timeline plan projected order of production including estimation and evaluation of time allocation o Finance plan projected cost and an analysis of actual costs of materials and services (if applicable) Evidence of OHS and safe working practices Appropriateness of design and/or design modification Ongoing evaluation of the Major Project and its relationship to the statement of intent, research and planning Referencing/Bibliography Evidence of a range of ICT skills o Evidence of a range of presentation skills and techniques

3 TASK RUBRIC In your response to the task and activities you will be assessed on how well you: Research appropriate materials and justify your choices Examine a series of design ideas and select an appropriate design suitable for a Major Project Documents your findings in an appropriate format Communicate ideas THE TASK You are required to design and propose a possible intended solution for your Major Design Project in The initial stages of the Design Folio and concept development phase will address the NESA MDP folio components, and cover all areas listed on Page 2. This will address the Proposal, Management, and initial Development phases of the folio. This assessment will be addressed over 3 separate components: Part 1 Folio Proposal Document Addressing requirement specified on Page 2 Part 2 Photo/video presentation Project Proposal The following headings/sections of your Major Project Folio must be addressed and presented in a photo/video presentation of between 4-5 minutes: Statement of intent Research Sketching and idea generation Prototyping, modelling and testing Production and working drawings Selection and justification of appropriate materials, processes and resources Project Management o Timeline plan projected order of production including estimation and evaluation of time allocation o Finance plan projected cost and an analysis of actual costs of materials and services (if applicable) Social Media Content Outline (Screen Shots Etc) This component is to be submitted as a PowerPoint or movie (AVI, Mpeg) file only. Part 3 Timber All timber for the Major Project is to be supplied by the student. Please don t spend too much money. Excessive spending will not result in additional marks. You are marked on your joinery techniques, attention to detail and the quality of your finish (not the cost of your timber). Timber for your project must be on-site and production commenced by Thursday 7th December (Week 9). Students are encouraged to not order timber and await delivery. It is preferred that timber is inspected and purchased on-site to ensure they are getting what they want and are not going to be inconvenienced
