Class Submission (Practical) CONTEXT (OR PURPOSE) FOR THE TASK In this unit of work students have learnt about skills in relation to the construction and finishing of different timber products. Students have been provided with the opportunity to develop further knowledge, understanding and skills that relate to the timber technology. TASK RUBRIC In your response to the task and activities you will be assessed on how well you: Reflect on information and discussions undertaken in class. Follow the set of drawing plans. Use workshop time to undertake guided construction of the project. Use class and home time to work on your folio. OUTCOMES BEING ASSESSED, GENERAL CAPABILITIES & CROSS CURRICULUM PRIORITIES P1.1 describes the organisation and management of an individual business within the focus area industry P1.2 identifies appropriate equipment, production and manufacturing techniques, including new and developing technologies P4.1 demonstrates a range of practical skills in the production of projects P4.2 demonstrates competency in using relevant equipment, machinery and processes P5.1 uses communication and information processing skills Page 1
2 THE TASK Practical Task Students are to select a stool design from the ones provided (small variations can be made in consultation with the teacher), create finalised technical/orthogonal drawings (dimensioned) and construct it using the timber provided. Constraints include: The time frame At least 4 mortise and tenon joints must be used Dowel joints must be used No screws or nails are permitted A water based lacquer finish must be applied. If poor time management occurs, an alternate finish can be applied but it will be penalised. Appropriate changes to the design if planned in advance will receive bonus marks. Design Presentation - A video/multimedia presentation showing the Steps in Construction of the chair/footstool: Create a visual presentation of the Steps in Construction of the construction of your Stool. Format: PowerPoint / Google Slides - -5 CAD images that show the development of your ideas for your Chair/Foot stool - Photo s of each stage in the construction of the Chair/Foot stool. Once you reach a stage in the development of your Chair/Foot stool in which construction have not yet commenced, then CAD images must be substituted to convey the remain stages. Page 2
