Introduction Brief introduction SEA-EU-NET 2 is a project financed by European Union s 7th Framework Programme for Research and Innovation The project consortium is based on a strong partnership of 21 organizations across Europe and Southeast Asia The project will run for 4 years (October 2012 September 2016) extended to April, 2017 SEA-EU-NET 2 builds on the results and outcomes of the SEA-EU-NET 1 project that ran between , including the successful implementation of the ASEAN-EU Year of Science, Technology and Innovation

Dialogue To strengthen bi-regional and bilateral dialogues in scientific cooperation between the European Commission and the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology To assist in joint identification of topics for collaboration under S&T funding programmes 2. Decision-making To report to policy makers in both Europe and Southeast Asia in order to incorporate recent political developments To generally highlight opportunities for S&T collaboration within the political decision making process 5

Jointly Tackling Societal Challenges To facilitate the development and implementation of a coherent European-level approach towards international S&T cooperation with ASEAN in Health, Food Security and Safety, and Water management 4. Networking To interlink different stakeholders to build bi-regional networks and strengthen research capacity 5. Sustainability To ensure that all activities deliver impact beyond the lifespan of the project in order to develop sustainable partnerships 6

Support the political and Stakeholder Dialogue This Work Package includes the following tasks: Organisation of yearly ASEAN-EU Science, Technology & Innovation Days Providing support to official EU-ASEAN Dialogue on S&T cooperation Ensuring policy coherence (Synergies with Development actors, Innovation actors) INPUT PAPER FOR THE OFFICIAL EU-ASEAN S&T MEETINGS 8

Content South East Asia Europe Joint Funding Scheme (JFS) The JFS will pave the way for sustainable cooperation between research and innovation institutions in both regions on the basis of the following activities: Implementing joint research and innovation activities Enhancing bi-regional co-operation Developing new partnerships and strengthen existing ones Exchanging knowledge and best practice approaches Thematic Areas and funding modes Climate Change/Biodiversity/Ecology Food/Nutrition Water/Water Management Health/Health systems/communicable and non-communicable diseases Enabling technologies (such as ICT) Governance Meeting of the JFS participants 9-10 November in Brussels 16
