5 ABOUT VIDA is a 36 months European project ( ) funded by the INNOSUP Call of HORIZON 2020 to support the innovation potential of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) working across European food chains interested in improving the use and efficiency of water, food, energy and key enabling technologies (KET). 5

6 Aim The sectors of water, food, energy and key enabling technologies are intrinsically linked, meaning a failure in one sector can induce a cascade of failures or inefficiencies in the dependant sectors. VIDA wants to merge the efforts and bring solutions that can be promptly scaled in different areas and stages of the food chain. 6

7 Objectives Map the innovation capacity and needs of target audiences Tailor and maintain virtual and physical open innovation spaces for target audiences Improve the innovation potential and cooperation of SMEs Drive the development of large-scale, innovation projects and commercialisation projects Evaluate and validate the new industrial value chains created within VIDA Nexus Raise awareness of our project activities and results among European stakeholders Define a sustainable long-term strategy for the continuation of consortium activities after the project ends 7

9 PARTICIPATORY METHODS VIDA will build on the consortium s extensive expertise to jointly pioneer new approaches to addressing the complex and cross-sectoral challenges by forming the VIDA Nexus. The support for a realisation of high-technology readiness level (TRL) and large-scale, demonstration and commercialisation projects across Europe will be done through: Open-innovation Virtual collaboration tools Mentoring and knowledge-sharing activities Twin-track innovation voucher scheme 9

10 MAIN ACTIVITIES Innovation challenges & funding support VIDA project will launch 2 calls for innovation challenges designed and implemented through: 2 sandpit workshops to enable the attendees to develop new and highly innovative cross setoral projects; Funding 10 collaborative large-scale SME group projects (e.g. 5-6 cross-sectoral SMEs and 1 or more end-user/ problem owner, leading to >55 beneficiaries); 10

11 Innovation challenges & funding support Funding 8 commercialisation SME projects (min. 2 organisations e.g. 2 SMEs or 1 cross-setoral SME and 1 or more end-user/problem owner, leading to >20 beneficiaries); 7 of the successful technologies will be purchased by the end-users; 25 SMEs benefiting from a specialist voucher scheme and their projects will develop a value chain charter with its problem owner for long term monitoring and commitments towards sustainability. 11

However, the final 10 innovation challenges will be defined by the end-users and advisory board. 14 Participatory & networking events Policymaking events VIDA will improve the innovation potential, coordination and cooperation of SME through: 10 virtual knowledge sharing and matchmaking events 3 business and investment brokerage events 5 online training courses and workshops selected and designed for and by SME 9 participatory consultation exercises conducted with policymakers Evaluate and validate the new industrial value chains by VIDA Nexus Develop recommendations for overcome potential policy barriers to build Europe s leadership in creating new industrial value chains 14

15 CLOU5 PLATFORM CLOU5 will be used as a multifunctional learning and collaborative virtual space. All activities and communication take place in this environment of trust of the involved network organisations. The users may individually decide who can see their information, thus it is protecting organisations who wish to preserve and protect their intellectual property.
