Design Technology from now on will be integrated to focus on Product Design, where all the streams of DT (resistant materials, graphics, electronics, textiles) are embedded together. So you will be expected to be able to work across all streams in a given project. In Year 7 you will be working on improving your design skills either as mini tasks or projects.
Objective: To understand the purpose and importance of data, diagrams, bar charts and histograms. To understand how to plot, draw and interpret appropriate graphs. To understand how to translate information between graphical and numeric form Why are graphs and charts used?
Josie wants to design a new app for a smartphone and has conducted a questionnaire and the results are as follows: Are you a? Boy Girl How old are you? Age 14 Age 15 Age What is your main interest? Games Clothes Films Music What phone do you have? iphone Blackberry Samsung HTC Nokia She decides that she is going aim it at both sexes, but for only the under 14s, the app will be based on films and be designed to suitable for iphone only. Is she right do this? What advice would you give her?

Task 4: Complete Q2 (20mins) Grade Mark/16 1 E,D,S E,D,S
Objective: To understand the difference between lettering, fonts, typeface and script To identify when it is appropriate to use which style.
Q1: What was the first typeface called? Q2: Why was this type of typeface problematic? Task 1: (15mins) Watch the video and answer the following questions on your worksheet. Grade Mark/12 1 E,D,S E,D,S Q4: Give 2 features of the Jenson typeface. Q5: How are italics different from normal typefaces? Q6: What are the 3 new typefaces introduced after Roman and Italics? Q8: What created a need for new typefaces after the industrial revolution? Q3: Jenson typeface was inspired by what ancient buildings? Q7: What are the names of the typefaces with no serifs called? Q9: Egyptian typeface is normally used for what? Q10: Futura was based on what simple element? Q11: What is the worlds favourite typeface? Q12: Introduction of what machinery has allowed a range of different typefaces to be easily designed?
A font is a particular size, weight and style of a typeface. Script typefaces are based upon the varied and often fluid stroke created by handwriting. They are organized into highly regular formal types similar to cursive writing and looser, more casual scripts. Font Typeface Which lettering to choose? Traditional, old-fashioned, historical, ornate, antique, classic = SCRIPT/ SERIF Trendy, modern, sleek, current, up-to-date = SANS SERIF Task 2: Have a go at hoot_the_serif/

Objective: To understand what isometric drawings are and why they are used
What are the features of minecraft? What make it recognisable?
Isometric Drawing is a way of showing a three-dimensional (3D) in twodimension (2D) on an angle of 30 on the horizontal. Isometric grid paper can be used to help draw in isometric
Helps you draw objects in isometric. Each triangle or dot is angled to be 30 and at a 10 mm spacing. If you are drawing at scale 1:1 what does this mean?
Tools to help you draw in isometric: Isometric dots Isometric grid Isometric drawing is way of presenting designs/drawings in three dimensions. In order for a design to appear three dimensional, a 30 degree angle is applied to its sides. The cube below, has been drawn in isometric projection. 2D design isometric view
Now have a go at doing: x 30mm x 70mm x 10mm
