2 Food Technology Year 9 Curriculum Map To handle different equipment safely and correctly, including cutting techniques. Demonstrate finishing techniques applied to cakes To develop a range of different cooking skills including using the oven/hob. Development skills Creative skills through generating ideas Literacy skills in using descriptive words to describe a product Numeracy skills in weighing out ingredients Pastry skills Sauce making skills Multi-Cultural Project To learn about different cultures and how they view foods. Learn how to make a range of foods from around the World; including quiche, apple pie, curry, macaroni cheese, stir-fry, Greek orange and honey cake, and chicken jalousie. To learn how to make a product and then develop the product. To learn about Quality Control. Continue to learn about different characteristics of a broad range of ingredients. To create a new product x1 essentials per project The assessment of the project in the design process areas: o Development Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet Become competent in a range of cooking techniques; using utensils, applying heat in different ways. Cook savoury dishes so that they are able to feed themselves and others Using awareness of taste, texture, appearance and aroma Understand the seasonality and functions of a broad range of ingredients.
3 Graphic Products Year 9 Curriculum Map Problem solving through model making. (Development) Digital camera imagery and manipulation in photo editing software. How to use research to help generate original, creative design ideas. How to use client opinion to develop design ideas. CAD and CAM. Stencil cutting How to test a product against a specification. Band launch CD sleeve Project Research Wally Olins British Corporate ID designer. Use the information to design a company logo ID, for the record company. Using a CD template, design a four fold, CD sleeve. Develop it in Techsoft 2D Design. Follow a specification to generate the layout of the graphics for the product. Use digital imagery/manipulation, Corel Draw and sketching tools to generate original graphics. Export from Corel Draw into Techsoft 2D Design. Cut on the CAMM1. Design a stencil and cut out on the CAMM1. Use it to stencil a smart material onto the CD sleeve to enhance the aesthetics and make it more appealing to the client. Evaluate the CD sleeve for functionality, suitability for the genre of music and overall aesthetics. x1 essentials per project The assessment of the project in the design process areas: o Ideas Acquire skills and knowledge to make high quality products. Use research and understand user needs. Communicate design ideas through computer based tools. New and emerging Technologies CAD, CAM, Smart Materials. Understanding of environment and designer responsibility. (Social and Moral issues of the materials and the images used.)
4 Resistant Materials & Electronics Year 9 Curriculum Map Developing initial ideas into a final solution Using CAD to produce designs for CAM (Laser Cutting & Laser Image transfer Using a range of production processes to manufacture a working storage unit: Measuring & Marking Cutting & Shaping Filing & Sanding Finishing Using a range of hand tools to manufacture a working product Tenon Saw, Coping Saw, Bevel Edged Chisel, Jack Plane etc. Editing and manipulating imported images to produce completed designs Material preparation (Plywood Sealing) Jointing Techniques Finger & Comb Joints Using Abrasives & Adhesives Know how the Laser Cutter works and is used Hinging material Assembling components to produce a final product Outside The Box (Storage) Project Use available resources (internet) to develop ideas Develop knowledge of CAD & Techsoft 2D Design Initial Modelling and Development Final Modelling and Development Properties of manufactured timbers Using the Laser Cutter to produce Vinyl Images for Phone Dock Base Understanding the characteristics of materials to assemble and complete products x1 essentials per project The assessment of the project in the design process areas: o Specification Acquire skills and knowledge to make high quality products. Developing Ideas. Communicate design ideas through computer based tools. New and emerging Technologies. Understanding of designing quality products for specific users. Developing Models to explore ideas.
5 Textiles Year 9 Curriculum Map Understand the difference between an allowance and a tolerance. Understand how conductive thread works. Understand how to follow a circuit map to create a working circuit and enhanced product. Build on the skills acquired in Y7and Y8 for effective colour and pattern creation. Learn how to use Techsoft 2D design to manipulate bitmaps and create original art work. Safe use of the Heat press and Laser cutter. Build on the skills acquired in Y7 and Y8 to introduce using the zipper foot on the sewing machine. Understand how conductive thread works and apply it and suitable components to create a working circuit. Literacy skills: Key words and terminology. Understanding the difference between allowance and tolerance. Knowing and labelling the various components of an e-textiles circuit. Numeracy skills: Block pattern generation including seam allowance and product allowance. Science link: Nano Textiles, current applications and future developments. STEM: Understand how Textiles can be combined with other technologies to produce Enhancement Opportunities Design Museum London/ STEM workshops. E-Textiles Project Design and make a zipped pencil case with electronic circuit. Learn about new developments and collaborations in the Textile Industry, including Nano Textiles. Consider suitable applications in the fields of Sport, Health, information Technology and Fashion. Pupils will make a block pattern including suitable seam allowances and product content allowances. Pupils will plan a correct sequence of activities to enable them to produce a viable product. (Production plan) They will document their making journey, how they overcome difficulties and how each stage may differ in mass production. (Plan for Make) Pupils will make effective use of CAD-CAM with the design and application of original LIT branding. Pupils must understand the need for copyright protection and ensure that it is not breached.
