10 PROGRESS ON STANDARDS IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES ETHIOPIA With the bjective t get inputs frm stakehlders and determine the legal limits f lead; MEFCC and PAN- Ethipia rganized a stakehlders cnsultatin wrkshp in Adama, Ethipia. All the stakehlders (including the paint manufacturers) agreed 90ppm ttal lead shuld be the limit. A regulatin n lead in paints is amng the regulatins t be implemented in the 2009 E.C (2016/2017) fiscal year. The regulatin will be under pllutin cntrl prclamatin Cte D Ivire A standard/legislatin still needs t be develped with the invlvement f multiple stakehlders. CAMEROON A standard/legislatin is being develped with the invlvement f multiple stakehlders. TANZANIA The EAC Sectral Cuncil n Trade, Investment, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) cnvened n May 2016 and declared eleven (11) standards that stipulate 100 ppm level f sluble lead cntent under the EASC/TC/070: Paints and Varnishes and Related Prducts. Due t the urgency f the matter EAS are in the prcess fr revisin t reflect 90 ppm level f ttal lead cntent, Kenya and Tanzania has started by drafting standard n the same, as well t cme with a draft justificatin fr revisin f apprved standards.

11 Mdel Lead Paint Law: The Lead Paint Alliance is develping a lead paint mdel law, available by late Spring Draft recmmendatins based n natinal and internatinal experience: Lw cncentratin limit fr lead in paint (90 ppm ttal lead). Ban n all types f paints ver the lead limit (cnsumer and industrial uses). Mandatry requirements fr certificatin f cmpliance with legal limit, based n internatinal accreditatin prgrams t ensure cmpliance. Clse crdinatin amng standards bureaus, health, envirnmental and ther relevant gvernment agencies.
