1 Super Sky Surfer 2000 Assembly Instructions Note: Plug and Play version of the Sky Surfer comes with fuselage pre-glued and motor/servos installed. If you wish to route antennas or wires through the tail, we suggest buying the kit as it will prove difficult after gluing. Items required for completion of Sky Surfer: Medium CA Blue thread lock compound. Small Phillips screwdriver Sharp hobby knife min Epoxy 1. Verify all components are included. Kit shown in picture: - Fuselage with canopy - Wings and Carbon spar - Horizontal and Vertical stabilizer - Tail bracket T plate - Wing wheels with wires/brackets - Servos covers with arm shield - Propeller - Control horns with fastener bag - 4x 17g servos with arms (PNP) - Motor with prop adapter (PNP) Copyright 2013 Ready Made RC, LLC 1

2 2. Ensure that all control surfaces are easily flexible by gently working them through the motion. - For the wings on PNP version, you will need to disconnect servo from horn to pre-flex. 3. Prepare control horns for glue by scoring the surface with a hobby knife to assist with adhesion. - Also, gently score the foam cavity to allow glue to seep in further for more strength. 4. Pre fit horns into cavities prior to gluing. You may need to trim some plastic flashing in order to fit. - Add glue to cavity and press firmly. It is alright to have a small amount come back up around the outside. 5. Ensure that servos are at 90* and attach servo horn. Second servo will need to have horn on opposite side for opposing wing. - If you do not have a servo centering tool, use your radio and receiver. Copyright 2013 Ready Made RC, LLC 2

3 6. Install servo into housing as shown. Some trimming of the posts may be required depending on brand of servo. - Install rod into second hole from the outside. 7. Connect servo wire and insert housing into wing. Keep the servo wire towards the gap at the back of the servo to ensure it does not get caught up when operating. - Secure with fasteners. 8. Insert push rod stopper into second hole and secure with nut. Do not clamp down with nut. Leave it barely loose enough to rotate. Use thread locker on the outside of nut to secure. - Caution: Thread locker can weaken plastics, so do not let them come into contact. 9. Partially insert small machined screw into stopper along with thread locker. Again, be sure that servo is at 90* and control surface is flush with the wing. Insert rod into stopper. - Tighten down on the Phillips screw while using opposite hand to support control horn, preventing tear out. - Repeat steps 5-10 on opposite wing. 4 10. Locate tail bracket T plate shown in picture. Dry fit into rudder and then glue into place. Bracket should be flush with rudder surface. 11. Note: If your setup requires wiring through the tail, now is the time to do so. I have added a 36 Dragon Link antenna. Room was made by cutting small notches in the ribs. - Pull apart halves of fuselage. Note where points of contact are. Mix epoxy and work your way around one half of fuselage. Carefully join halves and gently secure with clamps or other preferred method. Continually inspect for separated sections and press them together as glue sets. 12. Insert ESC motor wires through wing channel and push through access hole. - Partially insert motor housing onto fuselage and pull wires through. Check that motor housing has 4 lock nuts installed in back. 13. Dry fit housing to be sure it can seat fully. Apply CA to housing contact points while being careful to avoid wires. Be sure that housing is completely set and forward while holding in place. Copyright 2013 Ready Made RC, LLC 4

5 14. Attach motor mount bracket to back of motor with the 4 Phillips machined screws. Use blue thread locker to secure. - Attach prop mount to front of motor using 4 cap hex screws. Tighten in an X pattern. Use blue thread locker to secure. 15. Connect motor wires to ESC wires. Before securing the motor to housing, check for proper motor direction in relation to the prop. To test, temporarily connect ESC, Radio, battery, and apply a small amount of throttle. Do not attach prop for this test. - If motor is rotating in the wrong direction, simply swap any 2 of the wires, and direction will change. 16. Once you have checked for proper motor direction, push excess wire through access hole and bolt motor to housing using the 4 Phillips machined screws. Thread locker is not needed due to lock nuts. 17. Align horizontal stabilizer with bracket on fuselage and fit into place. Copyright 2013 Ready Made RC, LLC 5

6 20. Insert rudder into fuselage cavity and on top of horizontal stabilizer. T bracket should fit directly into stabilizer. Check for proper alignment through the bottom again as well. Secure with 2 Phillips machines screws. - A small amount of trimming may be required if the front of the rudder does not slide in easily. 21. Attach control rod stopper to rudder and elevator to control horns. Note that for the rudder, the stopper should be on top, and on the right side for the elevator. Do not clamp down onto horn with nut. - Use blue thread locker on outside of nut to avoid contact with the horn. 22. Pull servo wires through servo plate and screw into place. Elevator servo should be facing the back of the fuselage. Rudder servo should be facing the front. - Some extra trimming of the servo mounting plate may be required with different brands of servos. 7 23. Trim servo horns down to 3 rd hole as shown. 24. Center servos at 90* with radio or with servo centering tool. 25. Attach servo horns and check for proper clearance through full rotation. Leave at 90*. Copyright 2013 Ready Made RC, LLC 7

8 26. Insert control rod into stoppers for rudder and elevator. Secure with screws and blue thread locker while being sure that control surface is flush with stabilizers. 27. Balance prop and slide over prop adapter. Be sure to align the hex section at the base of adapter with that of the prop as shown as you tighten down. 28. Wing wheels (optional) Dry fit into wings. Gear should be swept back from front. Separate wire landing gear from housing by pressing tabs together. Glue hosing into wing with epoxy. - Important: Only apply glue where housing touches wing. Otherwise, you will not be able to insert tabs/wire. 29. After allowing epoxy to set, inset wire back into housing and secure by pressing tabs fully into place. Copyright 2013 Ready Made RC, LLC 8

9 30. Dry fit canopy hinge and glue into place with epoxy. Be sure that hinge stays in place while it sets. 31. Use epoxy to fasten canopy magnet into fuselage. Check for correct polarization first, and cover with masking tape. Allow to dry with canopy in place. 32. Carefully slide one wing into fuselage while aligning with the frame s spar opening. - Avoid getting the servo wire stuck in different positions while inserting wing. - Make servo connections if you are using a Y harness or feed wires through fuselage. Slide in spar from opposite side, followed by remaining wing. 34. Once wings are fully seated, flip model over and tighten down on spar with Phillips screws located under the wing. 10 35. Install your preferred receiver and check for proper servo direction. The suggested center of gravity (CG) for the Sky Surfer 2000 is 105mm from the leading edge of the wing.
