To use sketching technique to draw Egyptian artefacts. To create models of Pyramids using construction kits. To write about what they think Egypt is like today using pictures. Starter Show pictures of Egypt modern. What can we see? Discuss what we think it is like. Main Activity Explore pictures of Egypt including travel brochures. Choose a picture and cut and stick. Write sentences about what they think Egypt is like and if they would like to visit giving reasons. To use sketching technique to draw Egyptian artefacts. Starter Show pictures of pyramids again recap what they were used for. Look at pictures and examples of artefacts found in the tombs. Discuss reasons why these objects were chosen. Model sketching paying attention to details and taking care to recreate as accurately as possible. Main Activity Sketch examples of artefacts using pencils. To explore a pulley system for moving Lego bricks. To order 7 pictures to create an Ancient Egypt timeline. Starter Show world history timeline posters. Order the posters and discuss which topics we have learnt about. Talk about the difference between BC and AD identify years counting backwards and forwards. Main Activity Using an Ancient Egypt timeline put the pictures in the correct order 7 pictures To consolidate sketching skills when drawing a death mask. Starter Look at pictures of Tutankhamen s death mask. Main Activity Using sketching skills introduced last week children to sketch the death mask and use correct colours to recreate. To and decorate a death mask. Starter Look at Tutankhamen s death mask again. Explain how they were made a cast taken of the person s face (could show clip from Mrs Doubtfire of mask being made) so the masks looked like the actual person. Main Activity Using a mirror draw a self-portrait (not coloured). Recap importance of taking time and care over details. 7 (9/10/17) Week 6 To explore what happened to Egyptians when they died. Using pictures of artefacts and word bank copy labels next to each. Choose from symbols to stick inside sarcophagus. To make a model of the Egyptian burial process with support Pieces pre-cut. Supported to fold and glue. To know what happened to Egyptians when they died. Starter Show Tutankhamen s death mask again. Talk about what happens to Egyptians when they died mummification etc. Show cartouche s, death masks, canopic jars, sarcophaguses etc. Working in groups play mummifying game. Photograph. Main Activity Using pictures of artefacts as prompts write about what happened to Egyptians when they died. Complete sarcophagus activity what would they want inside their sarcophagus? Draw pictures and write labels. To make a model of the Egyptian burial process. Starter Recap what happened to Egyptians when they died. Use pictures as prompts if needed. Main Activity Using Twinkl resources create a model of the burial process decorating, folding and cutting the pieces to create the coffin, sarcophagus and pyramid. ROMs. Look at some of the foods eaten compare with our diet. Using communicate in print, evaluate the process of making the death mask. To understand what family life was like in Egyptian times. What was family life like? Describe the life of a typical rich family and contrast with that of a poor family. Attempt close procedure exercise of family life. What sort of house did they live in?
