3 mportant Before you begin: Open, identify and count all parts prior to assembly. Lay out parts on a flat and nonabrasive surface. You will need the parts identified on page and of this instruction manual. NOTE: T S VERY MPORTANT TO USE GLUE WTH DOWELS. EXCESS GLUE CAN BE WPED OFF WTH DAMP CLOTH. nsert Dowel at least half way by tapping lightly with a rubber mallet, F NECESSARY X X FNAL CAM LOCK SYSTEM OPERATON HOW THE KNOCK DOWN (KD) ASSEMBLY SYSTEM WORKS 1. Screw the Cam Bolt into the threaded inserts on the panel. Connect both panels together; making sure Cam Bolt goes into the pre-drilled hole on the end of panel for Cam Lock. 2. nsert the Cam Lock into the pre-drilled large hole on the panel. Make sure the arrow on the face of Cam Lock faces out and points towards Cam Bolt. 3. Take a Phillips screwdriver and rotate the Cam Lock clockwise to lock the Cam Bolt in place.. Plug the Cam Lock Cover into the cross slot of the Cam Lock to conceal the Cam. You are now ready to assemble the KD unit. Whalen Furniture Manufacturing Page 3 Factory No. 18

6 Drawer Assembling 1. Unpack the unit and confirm that you have all the hardware and required parts. Assemble the unit on a carpeted floor or the empty carton to avoid any scratch. 2. Pick up the 16 Ball Bearing Slides (P) and separate the Slide Runners for the following steps. Extend the Slide Runner all the way forward. Press the plastic release lever of the ball bearing slides up and pull the Slide Runner complete out. 3. Attach the separated Slide Runners (P) to the Drawer Side Panels ( and ) respectively, using three 12 mm Screws (6) per slide runner. As shown. Make sure that the slide opening points towards the edge with two vertical through holes in a line running against. P 6 P 6 P. Align and attach the Caster Support (M) to the bottom side of the Drawer Bottom Support (L) by using four 2 mm Screws (8) through the countersunk holes and screw into place, as shown.. Proceed to fasten the Swivel Caster (12) onto the Caster Support (M) with four 1 mm Pan Head Screws (7), using the pilot holes as a guide. 7 Drawer Assembling 6. Locate the Drawer Front (G) on a carpeted floor with the holes facing up. Securely screw four Small Cam Bolts (3) into the designated small holes as shown in the illustration. 7. Attach the Drawer Side Panels ( and ) to the Drawer Front (G) by engaging four Small Cam Locks (1) (Refer to page 3 on Cam Lock system operation supplement). Make sure that the grooves face inward and line up with each other G 3 G 8. Attach the Drawer Bottom Support (L) between the Drawer Side Panels ( and ) with the installed Caster (12) facing out, using four 32 mm Wood Screws (9). As shown. 8 Drawer Assembling 9. Slide the Drawer Bottom Panel (K) into the grooves between the Drawer Side Panels ( and ) until fully inserted into the Drawer Front (G). Make sure the finished surface will face up. As shown. K L 10. Fasten the Drawer Back Panel (H) to Drawer Side Panels ( and ) using four 32 mm Wood Screws (9). Make sure that Drawer Bottom Panel (K) fits securely into the groove of the Drawer Back Panel (H). Tighten all the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. 9 Assembly nstructions 11. Turn the assembled drawer upright. Fit 2 Guide Rails (N) onto the Drawer Side Panels ( and ) with the high side facing inward. As shown. 12. Hook 2 File Hangers (O) onto the high edge of the Guide Rails (N). Slide the File Hangers front and back to accommodate letter or legal-sized folders. 13. Attach the Handle (10) to the outside of Drawer Front (G) using the provided Handle Bolt (11). O N O N 11 G With the pilot holes as a guide, attach the separated Slide Tracks (P) to the slide supports on the Left and Right Side Frames (A and B) respectively, using three 12 mm Screws (6) per slide track. 10 Assembly nstructions 1. Securely screw the Large Cam Bolts () into the designated small holes on the Side Frames (A and B) and the Top Panel (C), as shown in the illustration. A B C 16. Attach the Fixed Shelf (D) to the Back Panel (F) with two Wood Dowels (). As shown. Make sure that the molding of Fixed Shelf (D) will face the bottom of the unit. 11 Assembly nstructions 17. nsert four Wood Dowels () into the middle end holes of the Fixed Shelf (D) and the Back Panel (F) at both ends. DO NOT put dowels into the Cam Bolt holes. 18. Align the inserted Wood Dowels () on last assembly with the drilled holes on the Right Side Frame (B) and press them together. Secure the unit in place by engaging four Large Cam Locks (2). 19. Align and attach the Bottom Crossbar (E) to the Right Side Frame (B) using two Wood Dowels () and two Large Cam Locks (2). As shown. Make sure that the cutout of Bottom Crossbar (E) points towards the front of the unit and the Cam Locks will face the floor. 20. Repeat the same procedure to attach the Left Side Frame (A) at the opposite end. B 2 D 2 E F A 21. nsert three Wood Dowels () into the top middle holes of the Side Frames (A and B) and the Back Panel (F). Position the Top Panel (C) onto the inserted Wood Dowels () and attach it in place by engaging six Large Cam Locks (2). As shown. C 2 B A F Whalen Furniture Manufacturing Page 11 Factory No. 18

12 Assembly nstructions 22. Stand the unit upright. 23. Plug the Cam Lock Covers (13) onto the visible Cams Locks to conceal the Cams. 2. Extend the Sliding Tracks on the Side Frames (A and B) all the way forward (including ball bearing cart). Then align the Slide Runners on the assembled drawer with the Slide Tracks and push the drawer carefully inside until it stops. NOTE: f the drawer does not go in smoothly, please take it out and repeat the step. f you need to remove the drawer, please pull the drawer all the way out, then simultaneously push the plastic release lever of the ball bearing slide up on one side and down on the other side, and then pull it completely out. 13 Care and Maintenance Use a soft, clean cloth that will not scratch the surface when dusting. Use of furniture polish is not necessary. Should you choose to use polish, test first in an inconspicuous area. Using solvents of any kind on your furniture may damage your furniture s finish. Never use water to clean your furniture as it may cause damage to the finish. Always use coasters under beverage glasses and flowerpots. Liquid spills should be removed immediately. Using a soft clean cloth, blot the spill gently. Avoid rubbing. Always use protective pads under hot dishes and plates. Heat can cause chemical changes that may create spotting within the furniture finish. Stains or marks from crayons or ink markers will be difficult to remove. n the event that your furniture is stained or otherwise damaged during use, we recommend that you call a professional to repair your furniture.
