1 Service Bulletin All Vanguard Jaw Crushers SB C&S JAW August 24, 2010 SUBJECT: Jaw Crushers. Jaw Crusher Pillow Block Bearing Bolts This service bulletin replaces SB and Technical Bulletin 0601 regarding jaw crusher bearing hold down bolts. KPI-JCI has changed from hex bolts to stud bolts on the pillow block (referred to as jaw crusher bearing hold down bolts in SB and Technical Bulletin 0601) to prevent bearing bolts from coming loose. This bulletin only applies to jaw crushers with hex bolts installed on the pillow block. Parts and labor will only be covered if the unit is within KPI-JCI s standard one year/2000 hour warranty policy. For units outside of the warranty period, parts can be purchased to complete this bulletin. Pillow block bearing bolt (one each side) 1. Lockout/tagout all power. 2. Remove existing hex bolts. 3. Apply anti-seize type compound to about 5 of thread on the bolt. 5 Apply anti-seize Threaded Stud 4. Turn the stud into the threaded hole in the base until roughly 3-1/2 is sticking out above the bearing housing. 5. Replace any missing shims (refer to page three for procedure on replacing missing shims). 6. Install a new hex nut and hardened washer. 7. Check bearing retaining key for cracks. 8.

11. Before tightening the bolts, check that the bearing on the drive side is square. Measure the distance noted in the picture below on the front and back of the bearing. Adjust as needed.

If bearing retaining key is not cracked, torque pillow block bearing stud bolts to 5000 ft.lbs. 10. Check A dimension and adjust if needed. See page four for more information on adjusting A dimension. 11. Before tightening the bolts, check that the bearing on the drive side is square. Measure the distance noted in the picture below on the front and back of the bearing. Adjust as needed. If cracked, complete steps Bearing retaining key Bearing Retaining Key 9. Install jam nut and tighten. 12. When drive side bearing is square, torque drive side pillow block bearing stud bolts to 5000 ft.lbs. 13. Check A dimension. See page three for more information on adjusting the A dimension. 14. Once A dimension is achieved, torque the non-drive side pillow block bearing stud bolts to 5000 ft.lbs. Reweld bearing retaining key. 15. Install jam nut and tighten. page 2 of 6

Replacing Shims If missing shims are found, use the following procedure to replace

3 Replacing Shims If missing shims are found, use the following procedure to replace them. Shim Check here for missing shims Check gap between bearing housing and pillow block using feeler gauge. Add.005 to feeler gauge reading and place that amount of shims between bearing housing and pillow block. It will be necessary to raise the pillow block to insert shims. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance manual or contact a KPI-JCI service representative for more information. Shims Feeler gauge page 3 of 6

Checking A Dimension The A dimension only needs to be checked if the key was

Be careful to strike out the bearing housing.

4 Checking A Dimension The A dimension only needs to be checked if the key was cracked. Use the following procedure to check the A dimension. Be careful to strike out the bearing housing. Do not strike on the machine surface.
