2 «learn your lesson Help little ones learn the lay of the land with a hands-on interactive foam map! Use a copy machine to enlarge sections of a simple, at-home atlas (refer to our template on page 12). Then, use the copies as patterns for this larger than life design. 2 Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations state of mind Get the interactive thing down to an art with flashcard-style labels (abbreviations on front, facts on back) and removable states, equipped with handy hook and loop fasteners. It all adds up to a learning tool that shouts Please Touch, and that s a fabulous thing for tactile learners.

3 off the map When you ve traced your states, use a heated foam cutter to carve them out. Then, paint as desired. Tip: Spray paint can cause foam to dissolve on contact. Read labels carefully to find color that s less likely to melt your carefully carved design. To eliminate the risk entirely, go for bottled acrylic paints. Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations 3

4 play it up If you build it, she will come! This princess-worthy play station is made almost entirely of foam. We used 12 x 36 foam panels for the walls, and we stacked various foam disks for the towers. Low temperature hot glue (or specially formulated foam adhesive, if you prefer) holds it all in place. hit the bricks Use a heated foam cutter to carve foam blocks to the perfect size, be it for bricks or ballasts. And if you re so inclined, use sandpaper to artfully round the edges. This lightweight foam piece isn t designed for rough play. It is not intended for climbing, sitting or leaning on the facade. 5 star power These shiners are lightweights and that helps them pack a unique creative punch! Yep, foam is ideal for projects that are made to hang. It s light, so it won t damage the ceiling, and it won t curl like paper or cardstock. Tip: Use a long needle to run invisible thread right through the foam, and then hang. gray sway Gray paint made our castle convincing just look at those gorgeous stone walls! 7 hop spot You need a simple way to set the scene for your funny bunny affair, and we suggest...foam! Carve out spring-inspired shapes, like cushy grass and happy tulips, and then paint them as desired. Think school play or church display! Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations 7

8 good egg Egg-shaped foam is the perfect place for paint! We chose a selection of bright acrylics for the job you ll need a couple of coats for really intense color and we did everything from stripes to dots to squiggles. 8 Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations bunny business He s a happy fella, made entirely of foam! We used a heated foam cutter to carve him out we suggest drawing the shape onto the foam before you begin (refer to page 11 for the template). Then, we applied acrylic paint. Tip: To keep your funny bunny from falling over, glue a triangle-shaped piece of foam to his backside to serve as a stand.

9 being green This faux garden is packed with adorably springy details. There s a topiary made from painted foam spheres (and one foam block for the base) that were stacked on a dowel rod. There are hand-carved tulips on dowel rod stems. And we didn t forget the gorgeous green grass our version never needs mowing! Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations 9

10 SUPPLIES: Foam Blocks Scrapbook Paper, Wrapping Paper or Fabric Wooden Letters Dollhouse Flooring (Broken Into 3-Plank Sheets) Scissors Découpage Medium Handsaw Wood Stain Hot Glue Gun Hot Glue Sticks That ll Teach Em To make your own set of blocks, measure and cut squares of paper to fit the sides of a foam cube (two sizes available). Then, use découpage medium to adhere the paper to the foam. Measure, saw and stain dollhouse flooring pay special attention to the corners before hot-gluing it into place.
