1 THE FUN & FOAMY Puppet Show Everybody loves a puppet show! We ll show you how to make your own fun and foamy puppets using a drink huggie, a little imagination, and of course foam!! puppet palooza! {CREATIVE INSPIRATIONS FROM HOBBY LOBBY } free

2 supplies: Assorted Foam Sheets (8 ½ x 5 ½ ) Foam Can Huggie Acrylic Paint of Your Choice Circle Cutter Foam Brush Craft Knife Cutting Pliers Ruler Dowel Rod (3 ₈" x 36") Dowel Cap (1" x 3 ₈" hole) Pencil Hot Glue Gun Hot Glue Sticks 1. Draw (or trace) several tufts of grass you can get creative with size, shape and color. Then, carefully cut out with a craft knife. 2. Draw and cut out a series of small circles to represent flowers. Shape, size and color can vary a little. 3. Using the ruler as a straight edge, draw a series of uniform rectangles to represent bricks. The number of bricks can vary, based on your intended design. Cut out bricks with a craft knife. 4. Using hot glue, adhere bricks to the can huggie as shown. 5. Then use the hot glue gun to adhere grass 6. And adhere flowers to the huggie as shown. Your tower is complete! Set it aside for now. 2 Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations

3 7. Use cutting pliers to shorten the dowel to 2". 8. Paint the dowel rod with coordinating acrylic paint. Allow to dry. 9. Paint dowel cap to match dowel rod. Allow to dry. 10. Choose a sheet of foam to represent the body of the puppet. Using a ruler, draw a line across long side of foam sheet, approximately 3 ½ from the top. 11. To create the puppet's skirt, start at the pencil line, using a ruler and craft knife to cut fringe, as shown. 12. Hot glue the dowel to the top, unfringed edge and roll foam as shown, using hot glue to secure. 13. Measure and mark a strip of foam (same color as the foam you used for the body), approximately 1"x 2 ½". Cut out the strip with a craft knife. 14. Then, use the craft knife to cut a small slit in the center of the strip, as shown. Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations 3

4 15. Use the circle cutter to cut out a circle (approximately 1 ) to represent the puppet s head. Then, use a craft knife to cut out a rectangle to represent the neck. 16. Choose a color for the puppet s hair. Then, use the circle cutter to create two circles from the foam you ve chosen. They should be precisely the same size as the head. 17. Adhere one circle to the back of the head. Apply glue to only the top half of the circle, leaving a flap under which to insert the neck. 18. Insert the neck under the flap, and glue to secure. 19. Cut second circle as desired you re creating a hairstyle for your puppet. 20. Then, glue front hair to front of head, as shown. 21. Draw and cut out a pair of pigtails for your puppet. 22. Position pigtails between back hair and head, as shown. Glue into place. 4 Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations

5 24. Draw and cut out the desired shape. The bottom of the crown should be slightly rounded to follow the contour of the head. 23. Glue two squares of foam together to form the crown. 25. Glue crown to top of head, as shown. 26. Retrieve 1 x 2 ½ strip of foam. Insert neck into slit, as shown, using hot glue to secure. 27. Fold the strip over the body of the puppet, as shown, using hot glue to secure. Now, you ve made the bodice! 28. Using the ruler as a straight edge, use the craft knife to cut foam strips for the sash and the arms. 29. Glue the sash into place, as shown. 30. Tuck arm strips under the bodice as shown, gluing to secure. Then, cross arms over bodice and glue into place. Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations 5

6 31. Use the circle cutter to create a circle to serve as the base of the bouquet. 32. Cut a series of decorative notches in the circle, as shown. 33. Cut a series of small circles to represent flowers. Glue the circles to the bouquet, as shown. 34. Position bouquet over arms, as shown. Glue to secure. 35. Use the circle cutter to create a 2 circle from foam that coordinates with the can huggie. 36. Use the craft knife to cut two slits in the circle, forming an X as shown. Position circle over the hole in the bottom of the huggie, gluing to secure. 37. From the open end of the huggie, poke the dowel end of the puppet through the hole in the bottom of the huggie. The dowel should protrude from the bottom of the huggie. 38. Place the painted dowel cap on the dowel rod to create a handle. Glue to secure. 6 Hobby Lobby Product Inspirations

7 39. And you re done! Move the dowel up and down to manipulate the puppet. Here we show the backside of the charming little princess from the cover. 40.
