2 GENERAL PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION OF THE OPTIMIZED RECESS The ASTER system offers superior performance in torque capability for one-sided installation of threaded fastener systems. The specific five-lobe geometry is designed to reduce radial stress in the fastener providing higher torque transmission. Installation issues associated with hexagonal Hold system, such as hex recess wearing, stripping and hex tip breakage are resolved without impacting fastener performance. Five-lobe concept with optimal sizes to thread allows for robust and lean manufacturing Higher torque capability vs. hexagonal recess to endure reaction torque in clearance fit applications Superior mechanical performances to legacy hexagonal recess Safe failure mode with no pin recess damage Excellent resistance to Cam-Out reduce or eliminate laborious repairs THE ASTER RECESS TO RESOLVE INSTALLATION ISSUES The new patented ASTER hold five-lobe system has been developed to eliminate installation problems associated with clearance-fit or transition-fit applications by sustaining higher torque than the conventional hex recess for one-side assembly threaded fasteners. The ASTER system is especially suitable for composite application thanks to its high torque capability. Thus it resolves the most common difficulties, experienced with clearance fit holes in composite assemblies using Titanium nuts or collars with low under head friction, such as hex recess wear & stripping and hex tip breakage.
