5 Adventure Background The Zingaro are a race of wanderers and merchants. They are commonly referred to as Travelers by the other peoples of the Sodran continent. Many small Traveler bands criss-cross the roads and trails of the land, but occasionally, larger groups of Travelers join together for mutual protection and profit. The Traveler band who came to Darkwood called their settlement Bright Town and they soon joined the booming trade going on there. The Genetie family was the guiding hand of the Travelers in Bright Town through their strong connection to Astraeus, the Titan of the Stars (see Darkwood Adventure Arc Part I: The Deft and the Deadly), but the Geneties weren t the only Zingaro family. One Traveler family in particular, however, had a knack for business, the Kallistro family who had long been involved in both ranching and weaving. The Kallistro family were clever and crafty. Two brothers, Iason and Nikkostratos, now run the family businesses started by their grandparents. Nikkostratos, or Nikko, is the younger more impulsive brother who runs the Bright Town Ranch. He has charm and 4 Iason Kallistro guile in spades, and his natural charisma makes him successful. Iason, on the other hand, runs a very tight ship at the Bright Town Loom House. He is a shrewd negotiator, with a mind for numbers, but his gruff manner and unpleasant demeanor make him less likable than Nikko. Iason is always concerned with getting a bigger slice of the pie for himself. The stark differences between the brother s personalities always leads to conflict. They have never gotten along, or even liked one another. However, both brothers spend most of their waking hours toiling at their respective trades. Even though they intensely dislike each other, the brothers are respected among the Bright Town Travelers. After the passing of their father, mother and uncle to a virulent disease, Iason took charge of the weaving operations for his late uncle Vasilis. When he went through his uncle s effects while getting the business affairs in order he came upon a tarnished amethyst brooch. It was hardly a valuable
