3 directions preparation 1. Print one copy of (Pattern Pages 1-4) at 100% or Actual Size on basic copy paper. After printing, measure the 1 test box on each page to confirm it is exactly one inch. Cut out each piece on the outer, thinner lines a dedicated paper rotary cutter is perfect for this. You will have 7 paper pieces. getting organized 2. As an example, for the A piece, start by covering A1 and then sew on A2. Depending on your skills, you may use less fabric. If you are new to paper piecing, you may want to cut your fabric pieces larger. Use a water-soluble fabric glue stick to attach the first section in each piece. For example, glue fabric to paper section A1. I like to match my thread to one of the colors of the fabrics that I am sewing, especially for seams that are pressed open. Reduce your stitch length to 1.5. This shortened stitch length will make it easier to remove the paper at the end. Be prepared to use your seam ripper! Even the most experienced paper piecers will need it at times. After adding each piece, trim seam allowance (the optional Add a Quarter ruler is handy for this) and press seams before adding the next piece. Central Park Block wholecirclestudio.com 2

4 4. Arrange the B and C pieces as shown in Diagram 2. Sew as indicated by the arrows in the diagram. Press open. 5. Sew A piece to the B/C piece as shown in Diagram 3. Press open. B C A B/C 6. Arrange the D and E pieces and F and G pieces as shown in Diagram 4. Sew as indicated by the arrows in the diagram. Press open. 7. Sew D/E piece to the F/G piece as shown in Diagram 5. Press open. 8. A pair of tweezers makes it easier to get to the smaller pieces of paper. Once all of the paper is removed, give the parts another good press. The 2018 theme of this annual program is The Places We Go, blocks inspired by favorite places. Central Park was inspired by my favorite public park in the greatest city New York City! Central Park and NYC holds a special place in my heart as it s where my husband, Jason, and I got married. When I found out that my block would be released in October, I decided that I had to design a NYC-themed block since it is also my anniversary month. Central Park Block wholecirclestudio.com 3
