Fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will have dialectic journal entries for one novel in their notebook, but will read two novels. As soon as you take a note, move to the right hand column and write about that quote. The entries may include questions regarding plot, character, relationships, setting, or quality (do you like this or not). Also include personal reflections or connections that you have been able to make. It should not repeat what the author said. Read; take a note; write a note. Continue as you read.
