1 DIG ` INTO SOME FANTASTIC BOOKS THIS SUMMER!!! Optional Summer Reading for Rising Second Graders Bring your reading log to school by August 25 to win a prize! If you want to enjoy some exciting adventures and earn a prize 1. Find the rising second grade summer reading assignment on the TCS portal. 2. Choose at least six books to read from the list. 3. Write the titles of the books on the log on the back of this flyer. 4. Ask a parent or grandparent to read four Bible stories aloud to you and add them to the log. Have fun building adventures Parent Note: Please refer to your child s recent DRA test results to find your child s reading level. After reading the books, fill out the reading log below. Ask a parent or grandparent to read four children s Bible stories aloud to you and discuss them. List them on the lines below. 3 RECOMMENDED SUMMER READING LIST: RISING SECOND GRADE If participating in the optional summer reading activity 1. Choose books from the Above Grade-Level List if you spend a lot of time reading and usually score above the grade level benchmarks on reading assessments. 2. Otherwise, choose books from the On Grade-Level List. 3. If the books on the list are difficult for you, ask a parent to help you. 4. Practice your comprehension strategies. 5. Evaluate books after you read them. Did you like them? Do the characters act in a godly manner? 6. Once you ve listed six titles on your reading log, you may read and list books that aren t on the list.
