1 Rising 4th Grade Required Summer Reading Dear Parents, Each rising fourth grade student is asked to read two books during the summer vacation. The first book required is Frindle by Andrew Clements and the second book is your choice from the list provided. Assignments for both books are due on August 13th, 2018, the first day of school. Assignment #1: Required Reading Frindle by Andrew Clements Read Frindle and answer the attached comprehensions questions. Please use wide ruled notebook paper to complete the assignment in your best print or cursive writing. The assignment should include your name, the title of the book and the chapter and number of the question you are answering. Assignment#2: Your Choice - Choose one book from the list attached. Write a two paragraph paper about your book. Paragraph one must include the Setting, Plot and Characters in the book. Paragraph two must include your favorite part of the book with a detailed description and the moral or lesson the author was trying to teach in the book. This is called the Author s purpose. Use complete sentences and several details from the book to support your answer. Please use wide ruled notebook paper to complete the assignment in your best print or cursive writing. This assignment should include your name and the title of your book at the top. Use proper capitalization, spelling and grammar. Answers must be neatly handwritten in cursive or in print by the student on wide spaced notebook paper. Label your answers by chapter and question number. Chapter 1 1. What grade was Nick in when he made the classroom look like a tropical beach? 2. Why wasn t the custodian happy with the tropical theme? 3. Who got in trouble when Nick chirped like a blackbird? Chapter 2 1. Even though, Mrs. Granger a fifth grade teacher was small, what made her look giant? 2. What does Mrs. Granger love? 3. What did Mrs. Granger want the students to do if they didn t know a word? Chapter 3 1. Why did Nick ask teachers a question right before the bell rang and class got out? 2. What was Nick s question to Mrs. Granger? 3. What did Mrs. Granger say to Nick s question? Chapter 4 1. When was Nick supposed to do his homework? 2. When Nick couldn t understand the first sentence in the dictionary, what did Nick compare it to reading 3.
