THE COMOSER Dr ack Stamp (b 95) is roessor o Music and Director o Band Studies at Indiana University o ennsylvania (IU), where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band and teaches courses in

2 THE COMOSER Dr ack Stamp (b 95) is roessor o Music and Director o Band Studies at Indiana University o ennsylvania (IU), where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band and teaches courses in undergraduate and graduate conducting Dr Stamp received his Bachelor o Science in Music Education Degree rom IU, a Master s in ercussion erormance rom East Carolina University (ECU), and a Doctor o Musical Arts Degree in Conducting rom Michigan State University, where he studied with Eugene Corporon rior to his appointment at IU, he served as chairman o the Division o ine Arts at Campbell University in North Carolina He also taught or several years in the public schools o North Carolina In addition to these posts, Dr Stamp served as conductor o the Duke University Wind Symphony (9-9) and was musical director o the Triangle British Brass Band, leading them to a national brass band championship in 99 Dr Stamp s primary composition teachers have been Robert Washburn and isher Tull, though he was strongly inluenced by his music theory teachers at IU and ECU Recent studies include work with noted American composers David Diamond, oan Tower, and Richard Danielpour He is active as a guest conductor, clinician, adudicator, and composer throughout North America and Great Britain His compositions have been commissioned and perormed by leading military and university bands across the United States He has won the praise o American composers David Diamond, Norman Dello oio, Michael Torke, Samuel Adler, Robert Ward, Robert Washburn, isher Tull, Nancy Galbraith and Bruce Yurko or perormances o their works He is also a contributing author to the Teaching Music Through erormance in Band series In 996, he received the Orpheus Award rom the Zeta Tau Chapter o hi Mu Alpha or service to music and was named a Distinguished Alumnus o Indiana University o ennsylvania In 999, he received the Citation o Excellence rom the ennsylvania Music Educators Association In 000, he was inducted into the prestigious American Bandmasters Association Two CD recordings on the Citadel label, ast the Equinox: The Music o ack Stamp and Cloudsplitter, eature the composer conducting the Keystone Winds in perormances o his bandworks He is ounder and conductor o this ensemble, and he also leads them on the Citadel releases Night antasy: The Wind Music o Robert Ward, Divertimento: Wind Music by American Composers, Celebrations, Wind Visions: The Music o Samuel Adler, Songs o Abelard, ageant, Cornerstones, Out o the Depths, and The Composer s Voice: The Music o Norman Dello oio He was awarded the title o University roessor or the academic year at IU This is the highest award the university gives to a aculty member THE COMOSITION anhandle relude was commissioned by the Okaloosa (L) All County High School Honor Band with the ollowing participating schools: Baker High School - Tony Chiarito; Choctawhatchee High School - Chad Hannah, Kelly Deklinski; Crestview High School - ody Dunn, Charley Andersen; ort Walton Beach High School - Randy olsom, Derek ields; Niceville High School - Dan Wooten, e Adams, atrick Carnahan; Rocky Bayou Christian School - Dee Reynolds The entire work is based on the uxtaposition o two musical ideas: a sixteenth eighth sixteenth rhythm and the whole tone scale The musical material is taken through several musical orms including rhythmic augmentation and diminution, canon, and polytonalitythe work retains a driving aspect throughout anhandle relude is dedicated to Kelly Deklinski and all o my numerous lorida riends Kelly was one o the inest trumpet players ever to graduate rom IU and it has been my pleasure to write this work or the All-County Band in which she participates ack Stamp B9
