1 2019 Alabama All-State / District Honor Band Audition Ino & Materials TUBA What is All-State / Why Should I Audition The All-State Bands are three large ensembles o the most talented band students in the state and our local district To achieve a spot in one o these bands, students must prepare an audition o scales and two exercises (etudes) or a blind panel o judges The All-State experience is an unorgettable one as students get to perorm with the most talented musicians and conductors in the nation Additionally, in just preparing or the audition students gain lie skills such as determination, discipline and ocus Simply put, we have one o the best band programs in the state, because we have some o the best kids! 2 ALL-STATE AUDITION REQUIREMENTS SENIOR HIGH TUBA Wind players must correctly play a minimum o seven scales and their related arpeggios All scales must be memorized Any student ound using scale sheets during auditions will be disqualiied 12 Major Scales and Arpeggios: C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, B, E, A, D, G, 1 point or each scale, plus 1 point or each related arpeggio To be played in eighth notes at a suggested tempo o MM quarter note =120 C Harmonic Minor A Melodic Minor Minor Scales and Arpeggios 1 point or each scale, plus 1 pint or each related arpeggio To be played in eighth notes at a suggested tempo o MM quarter note = 120 Chromatic Scale The chromatic scale must be played rom low Bb to high F To be played in eighth notes at a suggested tempo o MM quarter note=120 Point Breakdown 12 Major Scales and arpeggios 24 points Chromatic Scale 4 points Minor Scales 4 points Prepared Studies No 1 25 points No 2 25 points Tone Quality 10 points Sight Reading 8 points Total Possible Score 10 points
