8 Before installing this system, connect it to the vessel s power supply and undertake a full functionality test with the antenna positioned as close to where it will be finally mounted. By checking the unit before installing you will be better able to identify any error introduced during the installation process. 1. Only connect to 12V power supply. If you are operating on 24V, or the vessel has issues with it s power supply then use a 24 to 12V DC converter or use a separate isolated power supply -115VAC/12VDC 6A marine grade ISOLATED power supply. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for damage caused by the ship s power supply. 2. DO NOT remove/cut the antenna cable connectors as this will negatively affect the performance of the system, each antenna is tested with the system as a matched set. 3. Position the antenna in the highest and clearest spot to the front of the vessel, away from obstacles and 1.5m (4 times the wavelength) above any surrounding object. 4. IMPORTANT - Read the operators manual FULLY before starting, this is located on the CD included with your sytem; the manufacturer will not be held responsible for any issue arising from the incorrect installation of a system. NOTE REFER TO PAGE 10 FOR CORRECT ANTENNA POSITIONING ANTENNA INSTALLATION. The position of the antenna array is of CRITICAL IMPORTANCE for the correct direction finding efficiency and effective range of the unit. The mounting position for the antenna must be obstacle free to avoid disturbing reflections and false readings. The antenna should be positioned approx 1.5m above any other object or antenna. NOTE: The antenna has an AHEAD to indicate ships head. This point must be aligned with ships head. Page 8 of 12 SARfinder installation overview guide rev 001

9 The manufacturer will not be held responsible for reduced performance, or issues arising from reduced performance caused by incorrect installation as per the instructions laid out in the operator manual on the cd included with your system. By installing the system outside of these guidelines the user assumes responsibilty for any events arising therefrom. Each SARfinder undergoes the following tests before it is despatched: 1. In factory test on simulator 2. External range test to 0.5 miles with 100mW plb 3. External range text to 1 mile with 100mW plb 4. External range test to 2 miles with 500mW plb At each stage of testing the accuracy of SOS signal direction and alarm activation function is checked.
