7 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual 3 1 General information 1.1 Subject matter of the manual This User Manual is intended to describe technical construction and operation principles of the Microprocessor Unit for Protection, Measurements and Control MUPASZ COMPACT W01 i MUPASZ COMPACT W02. These devices differ from each other in functional features. The MUPASZ COMPACT 3.W3 additionally comprises announcements which warn users about to active second overload protection and second protection against short-toearth faults. 14 10 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual 3 Technical characteristics of the unit MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 3.1 Bay types MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 may be used in MV outlet bays. 3.2 Protections INTRODUCTION Every individual protecting facility, available with the unit, needs to be activated (except I>>, always active). Activation is carried out by means of the Programming Unit. Unless detailed specification of the protection states otherwise, one of the following events may occur as a consequence of protection tripping: switching the bay off, i.e. disengagement of the circuit breaker (after switching off by the protection it is not possible to re-close the breaker before the magnetic flag is cancelled). The information about tripping of the protection is recorded into the event log (the last event). The principle of protection s operation is described in the following example: The setting values of the current overload protection I>: I = 1 I n, T = 1 s. Breaking of the circuit will take place if the set value of 1 I n is exceeded over the set period of 1 s OVERLOAD PROTECTIONS Note: In the MUPASZ COMPACT 3.W3 only one overload protection may be active: either the time constant or the reverse time one. If a second overload protection is to be activated the operator must confirm deactivation of the first one before ND stage independent overcurrent protection (I>) It is an overcurrent-type protection; its adjustable duration time does not depend on the electric current value Reverse time overcurrent protection (I> zal) It is an overcurrent-type protection with a time dependent (very inverse). current characteristics. Variation of electric current that flows through the protected line affects the tripping time of the protection. Therefore the time-delay interval depends on the value of the level of exceeding of the threshold limit. The protection is always active PROTECTIONS AGAINST EARTH FAULTS Note: The Ferranti transformer transformation ratio is assumed 120 and the secondary residual current I 0n (rated residual) is assumed 1 A. Both these parameters are constant and are not editable. Note: In the MUPASZ COMPACT 3.W3 it is possible to activate only one ground fault protection: either the overcurrent earth fault or the directional the overcurrent earth fault. If a second earth fault protection is to be activated the operator must confirm deactivation of the first one before Overcurrent earth fault protection (I 0 >) It is an independent overcurrent-type protection with time delay. It is tripped by neutral current I 0 from Ferranti transformer. mup_com_w01w023w3_en

16 12 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual Directional (angular) earth fault protection (I 0 > k) It is the zero-current protection (either for reactive or active current) with time delay. The start-up current is calculated by the formula: I = I m /cos(φ 0 +α) where: I m - electric current of maximum sensitivity (setting); φ 0 - phase angle between U 0 i I 0 ; α - setting for the angle. However, for reliable tripping of the protection it is required that the zero voltage U 0 would be not less than 15% U N. If the phase angle for the protection is set to zero, the protection can be tripped for the actual phase distance between voltages and currents within the 1 st and 4 th quadrant of the co-ordinates. It the preset angle is different than zero tripping is also possible for the 3 rd quadrant. The forthcoming diagram of current vs. phase characteristic curve for the angular protection against short-to-earth faults can be useful to facilitate the setting procedure. On the phase plane and for two preset values of the phase angle α = 0 and α = 90 o the diagram exhibits areas where the protection is applicable or not. 18 14 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual SPECIAL PROTECTIONS Technological protections 1, 2 Technological protections react on double-state signal and are activated by shorting of the external contact connected to the technological protections input (contacts 3,4 or 5,6). After the protections activation, breaker switch opens. 3.3 Measurements GENERAL REMARKS The device MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 is equipped with hardware and software facilities that perform fast measurements for the purpose of protection. Selected measured values can be presented on-line on the display of the device that is placed on its front panel. In the mode of measurements the following information is displayed: - symbolic denomination of the measured parameter; - value; - unit. The displayed values refer to the primary side of the measuring transformers. Display shows results of the measurements of the phase currents I 1, I 2, I 3. The measurement cycle takes 1 second. That is why the content of the display is automatically refreshed within the same period. Please refer to par PROGRAMMING UNIT for detailed instructions how to use the Programming Unit. 3.4 Circuit breaker control GENERAL REMARKS The circuit breaker that is installed in each bay of the switchgear can be controlled by the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 through magnetic tripping device after tripping of a protections (e.g. disengagement during a fault). Breaker switch opening impulse is supplied three times in a second. It is to increase the reliability of breaker switch activation. 3.5 Warning alerts For signalling purposes the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 device is equipped with signal lamps 24V POMOCNICZE and magnetic memory status indicator on the front panel. During suppling with external voltage diode 24V POMOCNICZE is lit. Status indicator ZABEZPIECZNIE is lit (yellow) after tripping of a protection. Aktualizacja

19 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual 15 4 Operation 4.1 Description of connections Designation of individual connectors as well as analog inputs and outputs is shown in the diagram for connetions (p.5.2). Specification of connectors is included in Tables 1 and 2 (p.5.1) 4.2 Front panel MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 front panel contains: - text display 2-lines 16-characters; - 24 V DC external power supply signal lamp; - yellow magnetic flag, activated with one of the protections; - flag and double-state output cancellation button (activated with the power supply); - Programming Unit plug-in socket. 20 16 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual After supplying the power, display shows the following: and after a short period of time: Value of indicated currents I 1, I 2 i I 3 will change depending on their actual value. After protection activation, front panel signal flag will change from black to yellow. Protection type can be verified using Programming Unit s REJESTRATOR function. After plugging-in the Urogramming Unit to the PROGRAMATOR socket (located at the unit s front panel) the display will change: Aktualizacja

21 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual Programming Unit The Programming Unit is powered using 4 AA 1,5V batteries, or AA NiCd or NiMH rechargeable batteries. To check the battery power level press the BAT button located at the Programming Unit. After pressing the BAT button, a diode located near the button will light and the display will activate, indicating that the batteries are charged enough to use the Programming Unit. If the diode does not light, the batteries shall be replaced. Caution: It is possible that the battery power level check will show that the batteries are charged, but the programming unit does not operate or the unit restarts all the time. In this case it is also necessary to replace the batteries. All the parameters of protections are stored in the built-in memory unit of the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 device. The parameters can be modified by an authorized person only. Prior to carry out any of the operations mentioned above the programming module plug must be inserted into the socket marked as PROGRAMATOR ( Programming Unit ) on the front panel of the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 unit. mup_com_w01w023w3_en

22 18 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual OPERATION OF THE PROGRAMMING UNIT Introdution MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 unit may realize required protections. In order to configure the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 protections it is necessary to program the unit. Programming is performed using an external Programming Unit. The Programming Unit is connected to the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 through a dedicated socket located at the front panel. Initial programming shall be fully performed prior to activation of the switching station and may be performed outside the switching station. Programming MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 does not require power supply. During further operation, settings of MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 may be readjusted to meet the current operational requirements with closed breaker switch. Those changes shall be performed with caution to prevent random breaker switch activation. It is recommended to activate/deactivate protections with the breaker switch opened. Programming process does not hold back normal operation of the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3. Programmable values: initial current measuring transformer nominal value; protections settings: - tripping values, - delay values, - activity / inactivity; system clock Programming Programming of the MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 includes setting parameters for the following configuration parameters: Date and time Ranges of measured I n configuration of protectins year (4 digits), month, day, hour, minute A, with the step of 1A - Activity; - Delay time; - Tripping current. Using Programming Unit s tree is easy and subordinated to the following general rules: - using 1..9 keys you can enter the further tree level; - using WYCOFANIE key you can enter the previous tree level; - new data are entered at the cursor s position as a number from the proper range. After plugging-in the Programming Unit s plug into the front panel dedicated socket, display will show the first part of the main menu tree. Aktualizacja

23 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual 19 Display shows 4 lines. It is a general rule. If there are more than 4 items in the menu (as shown above) it is indicated by the arrow symbol or. Press the key on the programming unit to move to the 5 th item (5-NOMINAŁY). Use key to scroll the display upwards. If there are only 4 menu items as for instance in the protection parameters menu (as shown below), to enter the further menu tree level it is necessary to press numerical key corresponding to the item. You can cancel your choice by pressing WYCOFANIE key. To cancel edited parameter changes, it is required to finish the edition process, press the ZATWIERDZENIE button and press WYCOFANIE while the display shows ZAT- WIERDZIĆ DANE?. The edited parameter shall not be stored. Example To change the current fault protection activation delay time value T, which is always active, press 1-ZABEZPIECZENIA in the main menu. Display will show as follows: mup_com_w01w023w3_en

24 20 MUPASZ COMPACT W01/W02/3.W3 User Manual Pressing the programming unit s 1 1-I>> key will result in displaying tripping current and required delay time T edition window. The cursor indicates the edited parameter (that can be changed or not) which can be confirmed with ZATWIERDZENIE button. To leave the tripping current value unchanged and to move to the delay time T value press ZATWIERDZENIE button on the programming unit. Cursor indicates the next parameter. Enter the required delay time T value (including decimal period and decimal fraction value) and press the ZATWIERDZENIE button. When the ZATWIERDZIEĆ DANE? is displayed, pressing ZATWIERDZENIE or WYCOFANIE will cause confirmation or cancellation of the edited value respectively Viewing of events by means of the programming module To read the latest event registered by the MUPASZ unit, press 2 2-REJESTRATOR button in the main menu tree. The output relay contact will be opened Readout of real-time clock and setting of clock To read the system clock, enter 4-ZEGAREK window and press 1 1-ODCZYT key on the programming unit. To change/set the system clock, enter 4-ZEGAREK window and press 1 2- NASTAWA key on the programming unit. The display shows the following edition window. After setting the year (ROK) value, the display shows month (MIESIAC), day (DZIEN), hour (GODZINA) and START successively. To set the new clock values confirm the START. Edition and confirmation of the clock values is similar to the protection parameters edition.
