1 Page 1 HiSeasNet Maintenance Visit Report Ship Visited: Ship Location/Port: Woods Hole, MA Date(s) of work: September 15 18, 2007 Work performed by: Visit Purpose: Karl Kapusta Ku-Band Antenna Maintenance Visit and check tracking issues. The ship had just returned from operation in the Mediterranean Ocean using a different satellite and Teleport services. The Seatel antenna tracking system was changed back to operation on Satmex 5 but was not tracking correctly. Major reported symptom was an AGC level lower than the Threshold level. DAC 2200 was due to be replaced under warranty. The original controller had a faulty on/off power switch. The ship left for the Mediterranean Ocean before a replacement could be delivered, so the change out occurred as soon as the ship returned to Woods Hole as part of the regular maintenance visit.
2 Maintenance Checklist Antenna Equipment (ignore SeaTel/Ship-specific points with * for fixed antennas) Initials Action Notes/Discussion KK Take photo of radome exterior * KK Verify air conditioner is in working order, repair as N/A no air conditioner installed needed * KK Confirm/Set final air conditioner temperature set point N/A (85 deg F) * KK Inspect or change air conditioner filter * N/A KK Visual inspection of radome (cracks, abrasions, caulk, - no visible damage leaks, excessive grime, etc.), repair as needed * KK Visual inspection of radome base, legs, and connection no visible damage or rust to ship (rust, warping, etc.), repair as needed * KK Take photo of dome/hub interior KK Perform SeaTel or Vertex service bulletin upgrades/repairs KK Inspect reflector, repair as needed good condition KK Check antenna balance, adjust as needed * balance OK KK Inspect antenna equipment/frame for water or rust, repair as needed the isolation springs were found to be loose. Note discrepancies. No spares kit purchased no spares available KK Verify spectrum analyzer shows proper picture of Tx and Rx carriers KK Comment on or correct previous maintenance report issues that were pointed out no open issues from previous operational report
5 Checklist Footnotes Page 5 Discussion General Points 1. The antenna is one of the first 6006 models delivered to customers. The DAC is model # 2200 which uses an L-Band interface instead of the 70 MHz interface found on the C-Band systems (model # 9797). 2. The bolts that attach the pedestal base plate to the radome base plate were loose, and the isolation springs were not under any tension. This allowed the antenna to rock back and forth excessively, even in calm weather, so the antenna was having unexpected difficulty tracking. These bolts were tightened and Seatel was advised of the situation. The bolts will need to be checked at every maintenance interval as part of the maintenance visit. 3. The antenna was mounted with the hatch oriented 90 degrees off from the usual aft position. This orientation required a Home Flag Offset of 0191 to compensate. 4. The antenna was purchased without any spare components. They did purchase second LNB, which has a different RX frequency range, which they can use when operating outside of the HiSeasNet network.
