1 SKF Multilog On-line System DMx CMMA 9910/CMMA 9920 Universal distributed vibration monitor The SKF Multilog On-line System DMx provides distributed vibration based machinery protection and condition monitoring in a single device, for use in both conventional and hazardous areas. Four channels Intrinsically safe Integral eddy current probe drivers Reduced installation costs SKF USA Inc. class leaders in condition monitoring, have joined forces with intrinsic safety experts Pepperl+Fuchs to develop the SKF Multilog On-line System DMx. The SKF Multilog DMx offers a four channel vibration monitoring solution that for the first time allows the requirements of critical machinery monitoring, from transducer to dynamic data processing, to be fulfilled by an intrinsically safe device located on the machine skid. Protection and condition monitoring The SKF Multilog DMx provides two distinct vibration monitoring capabilities in the same module: Machine protection measurements to react to a vibration alarm that may signify a looming catastrophic failure, in compliance with the API 670 standard. Condition monitoring measurements to be used by sophisticated software to predict a potential catastrophic failure. Intrinsic safety The complexity of vibration measurements has previously forced the monitoring electronics into the safe area. The SKF Multilog DMx takes the step into the Zone 1 hazardous area. This breakthrough allows the benefits of distributed modularity enjoyed by process IO and transmitter systems to be extended to fully featured vibration monitoring. The low power consumption requirements of intrinsically safe devices also provide energy savings when compared to control room monitor racks. Reliability A reliable machine shutdown command is a prerequisite, and the SKF Multilog DMx offers Functional Safety compliant PFD data to IEC (SIL levels).

2 Features Digital technology processing When compared to the traditional control room architecture, distributing modular vibration monitors at each machine across the plant provides cost savings from: Combined machine protection and analysis capabilities Typical applications are for vibration, thrust or pressure monitoring (any engineering units possible) Vector data; up to four user programmable amplitude and phase vectors per channel Overall level data Dynamic data FFT and time waveform Steady-state and transient machine operation All configuration data is held on board the module, no pre-knowledge or database look-up required Multi-configuration storage capability advantageous to OEMs Configuration data is stored in non-volatile memory and restored on power-up Sophisticated and flexible alarming capability, any logical combination of measurements allowed Multiple LEDs for local indication of module, channel and alarm status, and diagnostic data Integrated self test and calibration features, potentiometer free Storage of individual names/tags for channels, alarms, tachometer and configuration sets Modularity and configurability Transducer systems The selection and configuration of the vibration monitor stays in the scope of the machine package, without need to interface at a sensor level with instrumentation outside that package. On-board digital eddy current probe drivers, which can be configured to accommodate a range of probe types, cable lengths and target materials Built-in barriers for direct connection to Zone 0 mounted sensors [ia] IIC Universal inputs: dynamic and position measurements (any combination) within the same module Fully configurable for any engineering units, transducer sensitivity or any filter cut-off frequencies Independent transducer power supply circuits for each channel Reduced installation costs Field cabling The many multi-pair cables carrying analogue signals between machine and control/instrument room are replaced with single or dual-pair communications cables carrying digital data. A significant reduction in copper costs is realized. Instrument room space Costly cabinets can be eliminated. Semi-populated 19 monitor racks are no longer required to achieve safety system segregation. Installation man-hours Physical loop-checking of many hundreds of sensor points on a plant can be reduced to a few data link chains, saving significant manhours for the machine manufacturer, LSTK contractor and the end user maintenance team. 2 Communications Dual redundant, intrinsically safe, RS 485 links Both links support transfer of any data type: status, level, analysis data or configuration Single master, multiple slave protocol with message CRC Fast messaging scheme for shutdown commands, dynamic module control and data acquisition Duplicate terminals for serial communications and transducer inputs to ease wiring congestion

4 Technical specifications Inputs Sensors: Four channels dynamic Sensor types: Inputs from, and power to, two-wire or three-wire accelerometers, velocity transducers or eddy current probe systems. Integral driver circuits for directly connected eddy current probes. Sensor power: 3,3 or 14 ma constant current, +20 V constant voltage at up to 14 ma Logic input: Single logic TTL level input for tachometer input or tachometer cascade from another SKF Multilog DMx module Tachometer input: Analog tachometer input (range 0 to 5 V) with programmable threshold level Keyway phase reference input: Two internal eddy current probe drivers on dynamic inputs may be routed to tachometer processing, with programmable thresholds Data acquisition and evaluation General Sampling: Parallel A/D conversion, digital signal processing, on-board clock calendar Input frequency range: DC to 20 khz Vibration acceleration, velocity and displacement: Fully programmable AC and DC measurement units and sensitivities SKF Acceleration Enveloping: Filter 1: 5 to 100 Hz Filter 2: 50 to Hz Filter 3: 500 to Hz Detection types: True RMS, peak, Peak-to-Peak and rectified average signal assessments are concurrently available Axial thrust and process variables: Fully programmable DC measurement units and sensitivities Application specific measurements: Eccentricity, absolute shaft vibration, Smax, differential expansion, rotor acceleration (r/min per minute) and peak speed for Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation; rod drop (untriggered and triggered) for reciprocating compressors Speed: Two tachometer processing channels, sourced from analog speed sensor, or internal eddy current probe driver circuit, calculating actual, and factored machine speed. One event per revolution target is required for vector data. Maximum event rate is pulses per minute. Filter ranges: Low pass and high pass filters (with two level integration if required) are implemented digitally Accuracy: ±1% excluding transducer circuit Outputs Communications link: Independent and isolated dual high speed RS 485 links Communication speed: Up to 125 kbaud (1,5 Mb/s capable) Digital output: Five opto-isolated outputs for local alarm, shutdown or tachometer cascade between modules Machinery protection Response to alarm condition: < 100 ms in typical applications Alarm delay: Programmable 0 to 15 seconds, pre- or post-voting Alarms: High, low, in window, out of window for any measurement Alarm voting: Configurable voting in any logical combination of any measurement. Result transferred by communications link and opto-isolated output. Transducer OK: Frequency monitoring provides enhanced OK detection, in addition to regular DC gap voltage monitoring, for directly connected eddy current probes. Bias voltage check for standard eddy current probe systems and accelerometers.
