6 TURNKEY SOLUTIONS imagequalitysolutions BASIC All you need to test for basic camera assessment As much information as possible with a budget-friendly setup. The Basic Kit contains everything you need to set up a test environment for a large variety of cameras. The most important component is the TE42, our multipurpose test chart that covers the most relevant image quality parameters. Working smoothly together with the iq-analyzer software, you can check the resolution in the image center and the corners, as well as teture loss, distortion, shading, color reproduction and noise characteristics from a single image. The tungsten halogen lamps with a huge diffusor are designed to illuminate the reflective charts. These lamps provide a uniform illumination, which makes setup quick and easy, and ensures a continuous light spectrum for serious color measurement when needed. What is the easiest way to hold the test chart? Simply mount it to the wall with the iq-wallmount. The chart can be mounted tightly and does not occupy any floor space. On top of the tripod, there is a 3 way camera head. This makes it easy to align the camera to the chart for the best results. EXPERT The advanced solution with various charts and features Do you develop high quality cameras? If so, you should also use high quality test equipment. The Epert Kit contains everything you need for serious testing. It also helps to make testing as fast and convenient as possible. To get detailed information about the system being tested, several images of different test targets need to be taken. In order to reduce the time spent on camera setup when switching the chart, we have developed the iq-chartmount vertical. The charts are stored in the chart mount and are well protected. Each time one is needed, it can easily be pulled down by using a handle without touching the chart at all. With the camera mounted on top of the iq-bench, simply move the camera back and forth and no time is wasted realigning the camera each time. This makes testing quick and reliable. The iq-analyzer software analyzes the images captured from different test targets, no matter if it is a single fi le or a huge batch of fi les. The selection of high quality test charts that are included comply with the latest ISO standards and cover the most important aspects of image quality analysis. These include a detailed check of the resolution at 25 different locations in the image, the color reproduction of 140 different color patches, detailed geometric distortion, noise and dynamic range measurements from a high dynamic range test chart and shading in every detail. Using the LE7, with its unique iq-led technology for transparent targets and halogen light for reflective targets provides the quality of test equipment needed to develop the high quality devices epected by customers. LENS Get to know your lens-camera-system in detail The lens is a vital part of an imaging system, so it is worth a detailed check. Included in this package are all the tools needed to analyze a lens in detail. This provides a meaningful report that serves as a basis for making wise decisions. The most important criteria that describes a lens is the modulation transfer function (MTF). Using the TE268 test chart in combination with the iq-analyzer you have an ISO12233 compliant solution that provides a deep insight into the lens and system performance. With 25 sinusoidal Siemens stars, you can obtain up to 600 MTFs for different positions in field and orientations from a single image. Distortion and shading, the two other major quality aspects of a lens, are just a picture away. The TE251 slides quickly into the field of view using the vertical iq-chartmount and makes checking distortion and chromatic aberrations quick and easy. The LE6 provides a uniform fl at field; perfect for shading measurement on an etremely high precision level. Do you need to check a zoom lens? The camera stand, together with the 3 way camera head, keeps the hassle out of the alignment to the chart. The iq lab uses this setup for hundreds of lenses a year. 6

8 TURNKEY SOLUTIONS imagequalitysolutions TIMING MEASUREMENT Beyond start up time and shutter lag An international standard on how to measure shutter release time lag, shooting time lag, shooting rate and startup time is available now. Since Image Engineering is part of the ISO group that developed this standard and Dietmar Wueller has been the editor of the document, we know it very well and have designed a Timing Measurement Kit according to ISO to meet the requirements. The iq-af Bo with dimmable fl uorescent tubes illuminates the TE261 test chart that is slightly more sophisticated than the chart printed in the standard itself. With its slanted edges it can also be used for resolution measurements and focus accuracy tests. Two LED-Panels in the upper left and lower right corners are electronically connected to be started simultaneously from a single switch. Which ever LED-Bo shows the earlier LED lighting up in the image after pressing the shutter release button is the one that will be used for the analysis. We deliver a Digitus with the kit to operate the switch accurately. The Digitus can be attached to a tripod and adjusted to operate the eposure button and the switch at the same time IMAGE STABILIZATION High performance and comprehensive image stabilization test equipment Capturing well-focused high resolution images even under low light conditions is one of the major performance characteristics of a digital camera. This is the reason why many cameras have build-in image stabilization. We have developed our Turnkey Solution Image Stabilization to evaluate the performance of the optical or electronic image stabilization systems built into cameras. The solution is built around the compact and highly dynamic camera-shaking device called STEVE-6D with its unique 6 ais positioning system in combination with the control software developed by Image Engineering. Together with the Digitus, the Honeycomb Breadboard to mount the STEVE-6D on, and the iq-af Bo with TE261 this enables a comprehensive test and analysis of the performance of image stabilization systems. 8

10 TURNKEY SOLUTIONS imagequalitysolutions iq-teststand Image Engineering has developed a huge variety of components for camera test stands over the past years. A whole range of products has been constructed from simple chart holders to fully automated production line solutions. Now these components have been put together to form a modular system that can easily be customized for individual requirements. If there is a missing part it can be added without constructing a whole new solution. Therefore camera stands can be constructed faster and more cost effi cient than ever before. A camera test stand can be divided into the following parts. For each of these parts Image Engineering offers a variety of solutions that result in a complete stand:» chart mounting» camera-chart distance» camera positioning» camera to chart alignment» reflective chart illumination» transparent chart illumination» housing» software CHART MOUNTING For chart mounting Image Engineering offers different versions from a simple wall and table mount through a horizontal sliding mount with integrating sphere holder to the manually operated iq-chartmount, a vertical sliding chart holder with integrating sphere support. iq- Chartmount is also available as a fully automated version. Currently only the vertical chart mount has the potential to be automated. CAMERA-CHART DISTANCE Image Engineering offers two different systems to adjust the chart camera distance. The iq-monopod is based on a traditional camera stand that consists of a rail system and a studio stand with vertical camera adjustment. This system is for manual operation only and large distances can be covered. Image Engineering uses this system with a 28 m rail in its own lab in Cologne. The second one is the iq-bench, a system based on a linear guide that can be motorized. In principle it can also cover large distances but it requires a certain height to be stable enough for larger cameras. It can also be operated manually. Both products can optimally be combined with the iq-chartmount vertical and horizontal. iq-monopod iq-chartmount-v* iq-chartmount-h iq-bench* CAMERA POSITIONING On the traditional camera stand the camera stand itself is used for vertical camera positioning and a special slide can be obtained if horizontal positioning is required. On the other system the special iq-camermount is used for the vertical and horizontal (perpendicular to camera chart ais) camera movement. CAMERA TO CHART ALIGNMENT In order to align the camera to the chart in the simplest way, it is the best to use a 3 way camera head with micro control. Our motorized iq-alignrig can be used for automatic alignment. This device is able to turn the camera around pitch and yaw to align it to the chart. An automatic alignment to the chart can be implemented in combination with a live view output of the camera. iq-alignrig* iq-cameramount 3 way camera head 10

11 imagequalitysolutions TURNKEY SOLUTIONS REFLECTIVE CHART ILLUMINATION Our program currently includes four types of illumination sources for relective charts. Tungsten halogen lamps that can be fi ltered to daylight conditions, fl uorescent tubes with daylight characteristics, our lighthead with various light sources and the iq-led fl atlights. The two latter ones can be controlled by a computer using a USB interface. In order to illuminate test charts two of these sources are needed to achieve a uniform illumination. lighthead* tungsten halogen lamps TRANSPARENT CHART ILLUMINATION The uniform light distribution on test targets is the obligatory for a reliable test result. Image Engineering offers different kinds of illumination devices to ensure a uniform illumination on test charts. LG2 is a light bo with fl uorescent tubes. LE6 and LE7 work on the principle of an integrating sphere. LE6 is equipped with a halogen bulb. LE7 uses our iq-led technology. 2 or 4 iq-leds in the interior of LE7 are available and guarantee a uniform, spectrally adjustable and long lasting illumination of test targets. fl uorescent tubes LE7* LE6 iq-led fl atlight* LG2 iq-housing If the camera test stand is not set up in a special room it is necessary to cover it from stray light and other aspects of the surrounding environment by using a form of housing. This should ideally be decoupled from the stand itself to prevent an impact on the measurement if someone touches the housing. The housing will be constructed individually depending on space requirements and limitations. It can have doors which include an automatic power switch off in case someone opens the door. A simple version of a housing is a framework covered by a tarpaulin. SOFTWARE The standard software Image Engineering offers for camera testing is the iq-analyzer. The analysis can also be integrated in custom designed production line software or your own software by using the command line option. Since the automation usually requires interaction of the software with the camera and test stand, the software can individually be adapted to each camera. The motorized modules of the iq-teststand can be controlled by using a USB interface and come with a SDK/API. * API (advanced programming interface) use possible PRODUCTION LINE QA Quality assurance Not all production lines use a quantitative evaluation of the camera performance in aspects, such as resolution, optical centering, shading etc. in order to differentiate the acceptable from the unacceptable cameras. This sometimes leads to a problem that the quality judgment depends on the individual person on the production line. A problem that can be avoided using an objective method that has been developed by Image Engineering and is currently and successfully being used in camera production. In one specifi c project the camera is partly produced by one company and partly by another one. In order to agree on the acceptable tolerances and to minimize failures the two companies use the same production line control system. iq-analyzer 11

12 STARTER KITS imagequalitysolutions PHOTO TE253 9 TE251 with iq-wallmount LE6-100 with TE264 TE230 TE182 CF5400 TE255 iq-analyzer Based on our eperience in camera testing, Image Engineering has prepared a kit with the most important equipment to check a digital still camera. There is no reliable way to measure the dynamic range without using a transparent target. So we have a TE264 to measure noise, OECF, dynamic range and ISO speed (ISO 14524, ISO and ISO 12232). A transparent target needs a uniform illumination, for which the LE6 is a very good choice. The integrating sphere illuminates the TE264 with tungsten light and can be changed to daylight using the color conversion fi lter. Together with the TE255, you get a very uniform light source to measure luminance and color shading (ISO17957). We add a basic wall mount which h holds the reflective targets. For color reproduction a reflective X-Rite ColorChecker SG is in the package and distortion as well as lateral chromatic aberration can be measured using a TE251 (upcoming ISO 17850) chart. And last but not least, the Starter Kit also allows for the measuring of resolution using sinusoidal Siemens stars as well as slanted edges according to ISO In order to evaluate all the images taken with the sample cameras the kit includes the iq-analyzer, the most fleible analysis software for image quality evaluation. LE6-100 spherical transparency illuminator TE230 X-Rite ColorChecker SG mounted on TE182 TE264 OECF 20 ISO / revision D280 TE251 distortion chromatic aberration crosses A1066 TE255 CF5400 iq-wallmount diffusor plate (for shading measurement) D280 conversion fi lter 5400 K D280 wall mounting frame for reflective test charts in size A1066 S/H/L TE253 9 iq-analyzer modulated sinusoidal Siemens star (slanted edge kurtosis) A1066 S/H/L software to analyze digital cameras including fi rst year maintenance TE182 neutral gray 18% remission A1066 MACHINE VISION TE253 9 TE251 with iq-wallmount LE6-100 with TE269 TE230 TE182 CF5400 TE255 iq-analyzer Lighting can usually be controlled in machine vision. Therefore a standard contrast of :1 for the OECF chart is suffi cient. But since the tonal levels are used for automatic detection and evaluation of elements in the image, it is helpful to get the OECF as detailed as possible. For this reason the TE269, with its 36 gray levels in combination with the integrating sphere LE6, has become part of the kit. For color, resolution, distortion, shading etc. the standard charts (TE253, TE230, TE251, TE255, CF5400) can be used for evaluation, as well as the iq-analyzer software. 13 imagequalitysolutions STARTER KITS SECURITY TE253 9 TE251 with iq-wallmount LE6-100 with TE264 TE230 TE182 CF5400 TE255 iq-analyzer A security camera needs to work under various conditions, from direct sunlight to very low light levels, often using tungsten or LED lights. In order to work under direct sunlight at high contrast levels the cameras have a high dynamic range and it may therefore be best to use a TE264 with a :1 (120 db) contrast level in front of a LE6 integrating sphere. For resolution, optical parameters and color, the standard targets (TE253, TE230, TE251, TE255, CF5400) can be used in combination with the iq-analyzer. LE6-100 spherical transparency illuminator TE182 neutral gray 18% remission A1066 TE255 diffusor plate (for shading measurement) D280 TE230 X-Rite ColorChecker SG mounted on TE182 TE :1 OECF 20 ISO revision D280 TE251 distortion chromatic aberration crosses A1066 CF5400 conversion fi lter 5400 K D280 TE253 9 modulated sinusoidal Siemens star A1066 S/H/L iq-wallmount wall mounting frame for reflective test charts in size A1066 iq-analyzer software to analyze digital cameras including fi rst year maintenance CELL PHONE LE6-100 with TE270X TE42 with iq-wallmount iq-analyzer CF5400 TE255 It is usually challenging to test cameras that cannot be manually adjusted to lighting conditions. This is especially the case for camera modules in cell phones and other mobile devices. Therefore our Starter Kit - Cell Phone consists of a TE42 with an average reflection of approimately 18% and a standard contrast range. This can be used for the determination of various image quality aspects including resolution, distortion, color reproduction and teture loss. The LE6 integrating sphere uniformly illuminates a TE270X chart for OECF and noise measurements according to ISO and ISO This specifi c chart has a variable center density which is used to manipulate the automatic eposure control. By echanging the chart with a TE255 diffusor plate, the setup can be used to determine color shading, which is an issue especially for small camera modules. The captured images are evaluated using the iq-analyzer software, which is also part of the kit. 14 STARTER KITS imagequalitysolutions AUTOMOTIVE In the area of automotive imaging two image quality aspects dominate the requests from our current customers. These are OECF in combination with high dynamic range and spatial resolution. Therefore our Starter Kit consists of an integrating sphere LE6-100 and a TE264 OECF chart with a contrast of :1 which equals a 120 db dynamic range. A TE261 reflective chart with slanted edges in the A1066 size allows to measure the spatial frequency response (SFR) even for cameras with a high level of geometric distortion. The iq-analyzer allows the analysis of these two image quality aspects in addition to a lot of others. With its fleible concept, it can be integrated into customer applications using the API or be used in stand-alone mode with its own graphical user interface. Therefore the test charts have to be small. To ensure uniform illumination with the same light source used for the fi nal images an integrating sphere with a diameter of 30 cm is recommended with a fl ange for the typical light sources (light source is not provided with the kit). Perpendicular to the illumination the integrating sphere has an opening with a chart holder for the 5 5 cm charts. A TE253 9 (according to ISO 12233) with sinusoidal Siemens stars is provided in D35 size for resolution measurement. In order to measure the OECF, dynamic range, and noise a TE240 chart with 24 gray steps (according to ISO 21550) is part of the package. Color can be checked with a transparent version of the Macbeth ColorChecker called TE188 D35 and for visual determination a TE250 and a TE132 resolution chart standardized in ISO 3334 for microfi lm analysis is included. The TE259 is an OECF chart with horizontal gray scales and therefore suitable for analysis using a waveform monitor. The color rendition chart TE226 in combination with the LE6 illuminator allows to analyze and to help control the color reproduction of multiple cameras. TE225 is a resolution chart using regular line structures for visual analysis as well as analysis using a waveform monitor. Last but not least a multipurpose chart TE167 is part of the package in order to address several remaining aspects including the optical performance of the system. The TE240, to measure the dynamic range according to ISO 21550, is available as a transparent and reflective chart. In reflection, the achievable contrast is limited to about 2.4 densities. In transmission, the user can select between 4.0 densities and 6.0 densities. The IT8 color target (TE258) is the standard target for color profi ling and testing scanners. Image Engineering provides them in reflection and transmission with a large color gamut. The TE136/250 is used for visual resolution analysis and is available as a transparent and reflective chart (TE250 only transparent). Resolution measurement for scanners according to ISO is traditionally done with the slanted edge target QA-62. LE6 The spherical illuminators work on the principle of an integrating sphere A light source illuminates the interior of a sphere, which is coated with a special white diffuse coating. A plane (measure window), which usually needs to be small compared to the diameter of the sphere and oriented perpendicular to the incident light, is illuminated etremely uniform. Due to our internal design the measuring window can be much bigger. A special construction allows the dimming of the light down to appro. 1% of the maimum illumination without changing the color temperature. The color temperature is 3200 K +/- 50 K. Different fi lters are available for changing the color temperature as well as a 50 W and a 100 W version. LE6-S is a cheaper, not dimmable version of LE6 with constant illuminance of appro l for LE6-50S and 8000 l for LE6-100S. The standard test chart size for the illuminators is our D280 format. D240S has the same slide format but a smaller picture format. Therefore it fi ts without an adapter. Adapters are available for the chart sizes D240 and D205. 17 Relative Power imagequalitytools ILLUMINATION DEVICES iq-led The most fl eible LED-based light source is the heart of all adaptive Image Engineering lighting products. iq-led Comparison of D65 spectra: HQ Fluorescence and iq-led iq-led control software* iq-led TECHNOLOGY 1,00 D65 standart illuminant 0,75 D65 iq-led generated D65 HQ Fluorescence Light 0,50 0,20 0,00 400,0 450,0 500,0 550,0 600,0 650,0 700,0 750,0 800,0 Wavelength (nm) Create your own light by adjusting the 22 channels in the visible range to your needs. You can simulate standard light sources, reconstruct the daylight distribution from dawn until dusk, create patches of a high-saturated color chart, or reconstruct the spectral distribution of a measured light source. By using the individual channels, you can even measure the spectral sensitivities of a camera. The iq-led provides you with the closest match to standard D light sources in a broad range from 400 nm up to 820 nm. Aside from many other predefi ned light sources, you will also be able to generate your own custom spectra in combination with the spectral radiometer EX1. The intensity variation is realized with a pulse width modulation (PWM) at 32 khz to enable working with short eposure times. Linear tuning of the intensity for each channel using 1000 steps provides an accurate way to manipulate every part of the spectrum. The internal temperature stabilization enables a constant spectrum for a period of a fraction of a second as well as over a few hours. A software-based, quick and easy self-calibration avoids any kind of effects caused by burn-in or long-term degradation of the LEDs on predefined spectra, and ensures a long lifetime. Because of its etreme short response time, light settings can be changed with frequencies of up 40 Hz. The technical characteristics of the iq-led are particularly designed for the higher requirements in the area of camera testing and camera calibration. On request, we provide the iq-led system (single or multi iq-led devices) as a stand-alone version together with a NIST traceable calibrated micro spectrometer and the control software, that allows you to create your own light source adapted to your needs. The standard module of the iq-led consists of 22 different types and a total of 80 LEDs arranged on a cm board. This board can be combined with other boards to form bigger and more intense light sources. The iq-led IR module was developed to etend the spectral range to the IR region. It also consists of 80 LEDs on a cm board but it has 11 channels mostly in the IR region and is typically used in combination with two standard iq-led modules to level the intensities of all channels. LE7 Test chart illumination par ecellence with various standard spectra (e.g. A, D50, D65) The LE7 is based on a 0.5 m integrating sphere. The basic version is equipped with two iq-led elements. For very high illumination levels, a version with four iq-leds is also available. Because of the optimized positioning of the iq-led elements in the upper and lower front area, a high uniformity of more than 97% in the active chart area is reached. The illumination level of the predefi ned and selectable spectral standard distributions can be changed by keeping the spectral distribution constant. This can be achieved by simply typing in the new illumination value in the control software. Therefore, color conversion fi lters are no longer needed and a high accuracy can be reached in every intensity level of any kind of light source. Individual spectra can be generated and, together with the EX1, you can reproduce your own light sources. The LE7 comes in a lightproof bo and with an integrated micro spectrometer to verify your spectral distribution in real-time, just like our CAL1. Together with the iq-led C++ API interface, it is possible to integrate the control in custom software or to create your own operating software. iq-led TECHNOLOGY * API (advanced programming interface) use possible 17

19 imagequalitytools ILLUMINATION DEVICES CAL1 The one light source solution in the field of camera characterization and calibration CAL1 is a single light source that can be used for camera calibration aspects like defective piels, luminance and color shading measurement, eposure adjustment, spectral sensitivity determination and many more aspects. This calibration light source is designed to characterize and calibrate cameras in the lab or on the production line. Its compact design consists of one iq-led element in a 0.3 m integrating sphere that illuminates a 70 mm opening. Because of the non-reflective special diffuson fi lter on the sphere opening, a uniformity of more than 98% is reached. The CAL1, with its integrated micro spectrometer, is controlled by the easy-to-use iq-led control software or, if upgraded with the iq-led C++ API, it can be integrated in your individual test procedures. Therefore, you only need one device for all light sources such as A, D50, D65, any other standard light source or self-generated spectra. For spectral sensitivity measurements, the CAL1 allows CAL2 The small light source for the fleible integration in a production line The CAL2 is also based on our 22 channel spectrally tunable iq- LED source and can be adapted for use in many different areas. Possible applications are:» adjust the eposure» detect defect piels» determine the luminance and color shading» check the auto white balance under various light sources (like A, C, D50 D55, D65, D75)» measure the spectral sensitivity for a more robust, more accurate and by module based color correction Therefore, this device substitutes multiple devices on a production line. Because it solves 90% of all calibration issues, it saves time and money. If the camera can read out the data fast enough, all of the images needed for the complete calibration can be captured in under 1 second. The mm large opening allows cellphones to calibrate multiple camera modules at the iq-led TECHNOLOGY the individual activation of each of the 20 narrow band color channels. Because of the very short response time of the iq-led, a full calibration can be performed in under one second, if the camera is fast enough in terms of image processing and image transfer. iq-led TECHNOLOGY same time and makes calibration faster and more accurate than with any other device. The device can also be used for camera calibration and testing purposes where space is limited. In this case, the spectrometer used for calibrating the device is separated from the light source, so one single spectrometer can be used for several calibration stations equipped with the CAL2. The whole system can be customized to your needs, if there are any special requirements regarding implementation into your test setup and workflow. The special internal design, for which we have a patent pending, allows to achieve a similar uniformity (> 96%) and intensity (up to 3000 l) that we have in the CAL1 with its integrating sphere. Then the iq-chart Bo is the right solution for you. The bo fi ts on a large table and illuminates charts up to our A460 size. The uniformity we have achieved for A460 charts is greater than 90% and for A4 size charts greater than 95%. The light source consists of 8 iq- LED modules that are spectrally tunable so that D50, D65 or tungsten illuminants as well as custom spectral distributions, e.g. to simulate sunsets etc., can be created. For automated testing an API is available like for all the other iq-led based products. Changing the chart has been made easy. A handle bar on the side slides the charts back and forth so that a new chart can be loaded from the front without having to open the bo. The iq-chart Bo is a must-have for everybody who uses smaller refl ective charts for camera testing. iq-led TECHNOLOGY iq-chart BOX Principle Light sources Spectral Measurement Control System Chart holder with illumination device 8 Image Engineering iq-led technology: Overall 640 LEDs, 2 white channels and 20 color channels / controlled via 1000 steps per channel and 32 khz PWM / Spectral range: nm / appro. lifetime of h 4 HQ compact fl uorescence tube OSRAM DULUX L 24 W / 954 (separate use, 1000 step SW dim control) NIST traceable calibrated micro spectrometer in eternal calibration device (Spectral Range: nm / Resolution: 1024 piel) Software based control system via USB Uniformity of luminance in the scene cm > 90% cm > 95% Predefi ned standard illuminants* D50, D55, D65, D75, A, B, C up to 350 l with 8 iq-leds / CRI > 97 Planckian spectral curve (1900 K up to K) Response time (switch illuminant) Output data < 50 ms Real time measurement of spectral trend, CCT, CRI, Illumination and radiant power, while calibration device is connected Maimum / Minimum illumination values Ma. up to 500 l, depending on illuminant (CRI) Min. down to 25 l, depending on illuminant (CRI) With integrated ND fi lters down to 1.5 l Dimmable Software based dim function by presetting intensity (lu / watt), while calibration device is connected. Predistorted charts sometimes help. However, the problem is that one chart only works for one type of lens. Cameras with a field of view around 180 require curved originals. After testing many structures, we fi nally ended up with our iq-fov Bo. It consists of metal plates with magnetic charts. These charts can be turned and tilted in a most fleible manner so that for every camera a combination of chart positions can be found to test camera characteristics, e.g resolution. The camera is inserted into the bo from the back and the front can be opened for easy chart adjustment. Fields of applications are the automotive and surveillance area. 22 MEASUREMENT DEVICES imagequalitytools LIGHTSTUDIO Test charts are used to test digital cameras and to perform objective measurements. But there are certain aspects in testing a camera that require a real scene. One of these aspects is the correct white balancing for different types of illuminants. Another aspect might be the determination of the visual loss of detail due to noise reduction or the amount of noise in an image. You can do tests with real scenes for yourself, but how to make these tests comparable over time? Or between different work groups when they are located in different parts of the world? Image Engineering has developed the lightstudio to make this possible. It provides the standard types of illumination and is large enough to illuminate a whole table top scene. It also allows remote control and the dimming of the lights from a PC using a USB interface. In order to get a worldwide comparison between labs the lightstudio comes with the entire interiour shown on the picture below. Each object was carefully chosen based on our eperience in camera testing and can provide interesting information about a camera system. The lightstudio with its interior objects and the switchable light sources has developed to one of our top selling products. It is well on the way to becoming the industry standard for a camera test scene. With the standard lighthead it is illuminated with 6 different light sources at adjustable light levels. The lighthead can be echanged for an LED based one that uses 20 narrow band LED channels and 2 white LED channels to spectrally match almost every standard light source. The LEDs are combined to units of 80 LEDs on a cm area and 10 of these are combined to form the larger light source. One set of fl uorescent tubes is also added to get the spiky spectrum charateristic for these sources. lightstudio-standard Basic features of the lightstudio USB interface dimmable several illuminants interior inclusive Optional moving targets (with rack) Most devices nowadays feature still photography and video functionality. In order to compare compression technologies, artifacts, motion blur and other aspects in video the lightstudio can be equipped with moving targets. One of these is a horizontally moving frame that can hold a variety of targets including a dead leaves or a slanted edge one. The speed of the motion is adjustable up to 3 m/s. A second movable section is a rotating plate on the back wall of the bo which also allows for adjusting the speed (up to 600 rpm). It can carry a sector chart or any kind of custom chart. In order to stabilize the whole setup with moving parts the option for moving targets also comes with a rack, on which the bo is mounted. Moving chart in the center iq-led TECHNOLOGY 22 HDR option Another aspect that is important for modern digital cameras is the ability to capture high contrast scenes. In order to really create a high contrast scene it is necessary to add some back illuminated test patterns or images to the bo. Two LG2 light boes with transparent charts are used for this purpose. In order to avoid stray light, which reduces the contrast in the foreground, the light boes are placed in the back of a surrounding black bo. This bo is inserted in the center part of the back wall of the lightstudio. Contrast ratios of more than :1 can be reached. HDR modul in the center

23 imagequalitytools MEASUREMENT DEVICES CAMSPECS camspecs is a fast and affordable solution for measuring the spectral response of a digital camera system (access to RAW image fi les* required). It contains the hardware and software tools, which are necessary to perform the measurement. CAMSPECS EXPRESS camspecs epress is a further development of camspecs, which makes the measurement of the spectral sensitivity more convenient because all interference fi lters are mounted in a single "test chart". Modified slide projector 39 interference fi lters and neutral density filters One of the 39 filter mounting-plates with interference and reference fi lter The light source is a modified slide projector with a stabilized power supply, a special light source fi ltering, and a customized optical system. A set of 39 narrow-band interference fi lters is used to generate monochrome light. The projector s slide transportation system is used to place the fi lters subsequently into the optical path. Located net to the interference fi lters, reference neutral density fi lters are used to correct for different eposure levels. Thus it is possible to perform the measurement even with a camera set to automatic eposure control. Customized versions of the camspecs fi lterset, e.g. with etended IR capability, are available on request (not available for camspecs epress). The camspecs epress hardware consists of a metal housing with a stabilized power supply for the halogen light source. The 39 interference fi lters are mounted to the front plate. The interference fi lters provide monochromatic light from 380 nm to 905 nm. Inside the housing the device is equipped with a heatabsorbing fi lter, a diffusor plate and neutral density plates for each interference fi lters. The latter provides almost equal power output for the interference fi lters, so that the camera dynamic range is not eceeded. Neutral density fi lters in the front plate are used to compensate for possible non-uniformities (such as e.g shading in the camera) over fi lter area. 24 MEASUREMENT DEVICES imagequalitytools CAMSPECS / CAMSPECS EXPRESS SOFTWARE The evaluation software makes measuring fast and convenient. It calculates the spectral sensitivity with the image data and the provided calibration data. The software reads image fi les such as TIFF or common RAW fi les* and can perform a dark frame subtraction if needed. Additional features are the calculation of 33 color correction matrices (CCM) with three different algorithms and the assessment of the measurement setup by comparing real camera data with predicted RGB values. Non-Bayer pattern sensors (for eample sensors with RGB-IR or RGBC pattern) can also be evaluated. In this case all four channels are displayed independently. In order to characterize the colorimetric reproduction of a digital still camera, the spectral sensitivity curves gained with camspecs can be evaluated using the Sensitivity Metamerism Inde (DSCM/SMI) as described in ISO This standard conform procedure uses training data of eight patches from a ColorChecker to measure the camera metamerism. The inde ranges from 0 to 100 (best) and is therefore easy to interpret. For the calculation of individual CCMs the spectral radiances of natural objects from the in-situ database may be applied. SOFTWARE» spectral response measurement» RAW fi le* processing / dark frame subtraction / batch processing» validation by comparing camera and predicted RGB values» generation of the 33 color correction matri (RGB to XYZ and RGB to srgb) with three different algorithms» calculation of white balance multipliers» calculation of digital still cameras Sensitivity Metamerism Inde (DSC/SMI)» visual evaluation of the CCMs with real images» calibration with included spectroradiometer» eport of all results to XML or plain tet fi les IN-SITU DATA In-situ spectral radiances The only commonly known source for some in-situ measured spectral radiances until now was ISO It describes the principle of how the color characterization of a digital camera works and provides spectral radiances for 14 common objects. Our in-situ spectral radiance data project was started in order to collect several thousand measurements of all different kinds of objects under various illuminations in consideration of typical scenes and objects that people take pictures of. Why in-situ? In many cases the spectral radiation of objects is not only that of the reflected light. Some objects such as leaves have a transmissive part. In other cases inter-reflections between the objects modify the spectral radiance in scenes. Therefore some objects, such as the human skin, appear totally different in real life compared to the skin tones of a reflective color target. What for? The collected data can be used as a scientifi c data base for different studies related to natural objects. But the main reason for collecting the data was to provide training data for the color characterization of digital cameras in combination with their spectral sensitivities. Currently a total number of appro measurements are available. With the database, you can optimize your color correction matri based on real life data, this eceeds the potential of a ColorChecker by far. What is the content? The database is divided into categories for thematic selection of objects, such as plants, human skin color, or illumination type. Each object contains the spectral reflection in the range from 380 to 780 nm in two variants: one includes the incident light and in the other this light is removed (white tile corrected). IN-SITU DATA * In this contet, Image Engineering uses the term "RAW fi le" for fi les that are created by a digital camera in "RAW-Mode" and are readable by the software dcraw. This does not include RAW-fi les that do not follow any readable image fi le format. You will have to convert these fi les to e.g. 16 bit linear tiff fi rst. 24

25 imagequalitytools MEASUREMENT DEVICES STEVE The Stabilization Evaluation Equipment (STEVE) is designed for qualitative analysis of image stabilizing systems under reproducible, realistic conditions. The STEVE bundle, composed of hardware and software, is designated for performing custom handshakes and calculating the image stabilization performance of optical and electronically stabilized systems. To determine the infl uence of the handshake it is necessary to combine STEVE with a test chart. Image Engineering recommends the iq-af Bo with TE261. STEVE-2D STEVE-2D is calibrated to provide the best performance at the most signifi cant frequency / amplitude combination of the human tremor of 4 Hz and 0.2 degrees. The whole range of available frequencies and angles of the movement corresponds to the properties of the typical human tremor. Yaw For the initial setup, the mounting stage allows to adjust the camera position. The movement parameters of the two aes can be controlled separately. Moving about a single ais (yaw or pitch) is possible, as well as simultaneous operation in parallel or antiparallel way. Both, simple sine shaped motion and individual curves (e.g. to simulate a real handshake) can be realized and logged. Pitch STEVE-2D STEVE-6D The STEVE-6D enables high precision and fast simultaneous movements in as many as 6 degrees of freedom. The center of the motion can (within certain limits) freely be selected. Every ais is separately controllable using custom waveform data or a sine wave generator. STEVE-6D is available in two versions for different camera weight and motion limitations. 32 SELECTED TEST CHARTS imagequalitycharts TE42 // FORTY TWO The TE42 is a multipurpose test chart and is available for cameras with sampling rates between 2 and 170 megapiels. It was designed to get a quick overview of a camera s image quality performance by taking just a single image under a given illumination condition. It consists of structures for the analysis of resolution, teture reproduction, acutance, dynamic range, noise, color reproduction, distortion, shading, chromatic aberration, and visual analysis. These can all be automatically analyzed by using the iq-analyzer software.» The dynamic range can be measured up to10 f-stops (due to the limitations of a reflective target)» Resolution is measured in the center and the corners of the image» Enhanced linearization features around the Siemens stars for resolution analysis» Low contrast Siemens stars to support the upcoming ISO teture standard» Slanted edges at different contrast levels for the analysis of sharpening applied to the image» Distortion is measured as TV-distortion» Color reproduction is measured with ColorChecker SG comparable colors» A colored random circles structure (dead leaves) at two different contrast levels for improved teture analysis» Positioning of dead leaves and visual images at the same radial distance to the center In order to produce all of the necessary structures with the required specifi cations, the chart contains materials from different production processes. For the standard (S) version, the outer parts are produced on matt paper to avoid specular reflections from the light source, especially for wide-angle analysis. With this material, the maimum sampling rate of the camera under test should be no greater than 30 megapiels. A high-resolution version (H) is available on photographic material. This allows the analysis of cameras with up to 170 megapiels, but puts some constraints on the illumination. ARCHIVING TE262 // UTT Universal Test Target The Universal Test Target is designed to evaluate the image quality of scanners and other digital input devices for archiving and is available in various sizes ranging from A4 to A0. For further information on the target specifi cation see: The chart covers the following topics in archival scanning» uniformity» banding and registration» distortion and deviations» resolution (slanted edge and visual)» dynamic range and OECF» noise evaluation» color reproduction» color registration» the use of additional reference charts TE263 // Scan Reference Chart The chart consists of gray steps, color patches, a scale and resolution pattern. It allows automatic analysis of each scanned page and in combination with the right software indicates information for the reason if a specifi c page happens to be out of specs. TE263 etended 32

33 imagequalitycharts SELECTED TEST CHARTS COLOR Color rendition targets are used to check the quality of color correction (rendition) in cameras. On the one hand this can be a subjective analysis for pleasing colors or it can be a measurement for color reproduction quality. For the latter the image is converted into CIELAB space and the color values are compared to the measured colors of the original target. In order to calibrate color correction in cameras, the best way is to measure the spectral sensitivities with a camspecs device. The most common chart in this area for cameras is the X-Rite ColorChecker which Image Engineering sells under TE188 and the IT8 for scanners TE258. The TE226 is an etended transparent version of the ColorChecker. For cameras, an etended version is the X-Rite ColorChecker SG, which has become a standard target sold under TE230. TE226 TE188 TE258 TE230 OECF Measuring the characteristic curve of a camera is one of the most important tests. The resulting function is called the opto electronic conversion function (OECF). OECF, noise and dynamic range measurements according to ISO14524 and ISO15739 in their latest revision (2013) are based on the TE264, TE269 or TE270. For the standard charts, the gray levels are generated on lithographic fi lm using a half toning process. This could cause problems with high-resolution cameras which can be solved by slightly defocusing the camera. In addition Image Engineering has designed the optional X-version of the TE264 on fi ne grain photographic material for cameras where defocusing is no option (such as phone cameras). The TE264X is offered at almost any contrast level up to :1. For analysis with a waveform monitor we recommend TE259 with its horizontal gray scales. Cameras without manual eposure control can be tested using the TE270X chart. It uses two polarizing fi lters in the center of the chart to fool the automatic eposure. By turning the fi lters the density (transmission) of the central part of the test chart is modified. TE269 is one of our newest charts and provides more data points with its 36 patches.the selection of the suitable OECF charts should be based in general on the dynamic range of the test device. The chart should have a contrast ratio that is higher than the epected dynamic range of the camera under test. TE269 TE270X TE197 TE219 TE264 TE259 TE241 33

34 SELECTED TEST CHARTS imagequalitycharts RESOLUTION One of the most important values when testing a digital camera is the resolution. Resolution, according to ISO (digital still cameras) and ISO (scanners), is the ability of an image capture device to reproduce fi ne details in the captured scene. It is important to see, that the number of piel is not the same as the resolution. The number of piel is a necessary but not suffi cient requirement to get to a certain resolution. Optical parts like the lens and the antialiasing fi lter, as well as image processing, also have a signifi cant impact on the resolution of a camera. And the smaller the piels get, the higher the infl uence of optical components on the resulting resolution. TEXTURE LOSS Sinusoidal Siemens stars with reduced contrast are eminently suited to analyze teture loss meaning the loss of fi ne details with low contrasts. The loss of teture in an imaging system is caused by noise reduction or other image processing techniques. TE280 TE276 TE268 (fi ed aspect ratio; 4:3 and 3:2 available) The upcoming ISO standard for teture analysis comprises a measurement method using low contrast Siemens stars. TE253 9 (aspect ratio variable) Our standard chart for resolution measurements is the sinusoidal Siemens star chart TE253 (part of the latest ISO revision). The chart allows the analysis of the resolution at 9 positions in the image, in order to evaluate the fall off from optical center to the corners. The fact that it comes in 3 separate columns allows the adjusting of the chart to various image aspect ratios. To get even more information over the entire image field, the TE268 consists of 25 Siemens stars. Another approach for measuring the resolution of a camera is the analysis of a slanted edge. This method is described in detail in ISO 12233, but can only be applied to images where almost no sharpening and compression is used because these image processing steps affect edges in a way that the edge analysis no longer represents the resolution of the camera. A pilot study published at the Electronic Imaging Conference 2008 has shown that both methods, the Siemens star and slanted edge, deliver the same results when applied to uncompressed and unsharpened images. A unique manufacturing technology has lead to a new generation of TE253 and TE268 (H series) with the sinusoidal Siemens stars. This technology produces etremely high-resolution continuous tone structures on photographic paper and enables to measure cameras with up to 180 Megapiels using our standard A1066 target size. To get there we decreased the size of the center mark on each Siemens star from 12 mm to 5 mm. To accurately detect the smaller marks the camera should produce a minimum sample rate of 8 megapiels. The Resolution module of the iq-analyzer, Image Engineering s analysis software, supports the analysis of the stars including the new TE280 chart. Using Siemens stars with a reduced contrast (18% modulation), you can benefi t from the well-known advantages of sinusoidal Siemens stars. The result of the analysis using the iq-analyzer delivers the full MTF in addition to other numerical results like limiting resolution (MTF 10) and acutance. TE276 consists of dead leaves structures and the necessary surrounding markers for registration and linearization - the ultimate solution for teture analysis. In various publications we could show, that the latest approach "DeadLeaves cross" is the best solution so far to describe the teture loss. See our website for details. You can fi nd the same dead leaves structures and low contrast Siemens stars on TE42 the multipurpose test chart for image quality measurement. low light low contrast bright light low contrast low light high contrast bright light high contrast Size ecomparison of the ec center er mark: regular/high r/high resolution on The SFR based on the DeadLeaves_cross method of the image above 34
