Detection is based on RGB color components, a superior method to the conventional light quantity receiving method. Long distance and wide-range detection The CZ-K Series is mounted at a distance from the target enabling accurate detection of vibrating targets. The sensor position does not need adjusting even when the target size changes " ± 20 mm 0.79" Even Vibrating Targets -20 mm " +20 mm +0.79" 1-mm 0.04" beam spot model available The CZ-41 features a beam spot diameter of 1 mm 0.04" at a distance of 16 mm. Even minute marks can be reliably detected. One press of a button automatically sets the optimal sensitivity To set sensitivity, simply push the SET button once. Workpieces can now be accurately detected. The CZ-K Series recognizes color components instantly and automatically sets the optimal sensitivity (one-point tuning). Eight-color registration and external tuning functions The CZ-K Series can register eight setting values in advance and switches them based on external signals. In addition, the CZ-K Series features an external tuning function that allows sensitivity settings to be performed remotely. These functions enable smooth product changeover. 170

Differentiation mode switch (C/C+I/I) Advantages of RGB color component detection Conventional receiving light quantity methods have inherent limitations such as limited differentiation capability and the inability to compensate for fluctuations in target distance. The RGB color component detection method eliminates these limitations. It is an extremely stable detection method that can detect colors even in rough mounting conditions. Differentiation ability Conventional method: Detection based on light quantity received Received light quantity CZ-K Series method: Detection based on RGB color components ON ON ON OFF Vibration resistance Differentiation cannot be performed as there is no change in the quantity of light received. Received light quantity Threshold Extremely accurate differentiation can be performed based on RGB color component detection. ON OFF Fluctuations in distance change the received light quantity. ON ON The accuracy is not effected by fluctuations in target distance. Built-in highly accurate triple 12-bit A/D converter The received light quantity of each of the three color components: red, blue, and green is converted to 12-bits of data. The CZ-K Series employs a high resolution arithmetic method, tops in the industry, to calculate the combined received light quantity as 36-bit data. Stability is significantly enhanced. High-speed response of 300 µs The CZ-K Series has a high-speed response of 300 µs. For example, a 1-mm mark can be detected on a sheet being fed at 3.3 m/s at HSPD mode. (HSPD = high speed response mode time) 172

4 RGB Digital Fiberoptic Sensors CZ-K Three modes provide all methods of differentiation The CZ-K Series has three modes that differentiate RGB color components and received light quantity. These correspond to methods of differentiation. C mode: Color components C+I mode: Color components + received light quantity I mode: Received light quantity Timing input function This function holds sensor output according to an external input signal. This is convenient when you want to extend an output result. 1-line connection system PS-T2 Photoelectric sensor FS-T2 Fiberoptic sensor CZ-K1 Built-in self-stabilizer The self-stabilizer monitors quantity fluctuations of the LED emitters due to temperature changes or aging, and automatically keeps transmitted light quantity constant. Mode C (Color) C + I (Color and intensity) I (Intensity) Switch Description Detects color using RGB color components. Detects color using RGB color components and received light intensity. Matching rate display Displays the matching degree (matching rate) of the color of the currently detected target to the reference color registered during calibration. Setting value display Displays the threshold value (criteria) of the matching rate. 1-point/2-point calibration selection (Using DIP switch 3) Change the calibration method. Mode 1-P (1-point calibration) 2-P (2-point calibration) Switch 3 3 Description Detects one specified color. (The sensitivity is automatically set to detect only the one color selected during calibration.) Differentiates two specified colors. (The sensitivity is automatically set to the optimal value to differentiate the two colors selected during calibration.) Sensitivity adjustment The tolerance of the detection can be adjusted. 1. Press the MODE button to show the setting value. DRY OUT TIM SET OFF N.C N.O MODE SET Operating procedure for using C or C + I mode Setting sensitivity 1-point calibration (Detection of one specified color) Place a target of the reference color in the detection area of the fiber unit. Press the SET button and then release it. The calibration indicator illuminates momentarily and the reference color is saved. 2. Press the UP/DOWN button to change the setting value. A higher value means precise detection. Press Press A lower value means rough detection. 2-point calibration (Differentiation of two colors) 1.Place a target of the reference color in the detection area of the fiber unit. Press the SET button and then release it. The calibration indicator illuminates and the reference color is saved. Narrow tolerance range Wide tolerance range 2.Place a target of the color to be differentiated in the detection area. Press the SET button and then release it. The calibration indicator goes off. The CZ-K1 Series sets the optimal sensitivity to differentiate the two colors. 174

In this case, place a light shield plate around the fiber unit or change its location. When any of the external inputs (calibration, synchronization or bank selection) are not used, cut the appropriate input cables (pink, purple, orange/purple, yellow/purple or green/purple) at the root or connect them to the + terminal of the power supply. The cable should not be extended more than 100 m ' (To connect several units, contact Keyence for further information.) Do not use the CZ-K1 outdoors. Even when the same color is detected, the displayed value may vary depending on the characteristics of each amplifier, the length of the fiber cable and the location. If there are several colors in a single beam spot, the CZ-K1 determines the color by averaging those colors. Therefore, it may produce an output even though the color is different from the registered color. When detecting a metal surface or glossy target When a target has a metal or 10 to 15 glossy surface, the calibration/ differentiation may fail. To detect such a target, tilt the fiber unit by approximately 10 to 15 degrees. 175
