MacFinish for Greyhound Racing Photo-Finish For this spectacular and important sport the best possible photo-finish is required; 1) Maximum recording speed (Timing resolution) 2) Maximum vertical pixel resolution (identical of pixels) 3) Maximum color depth (=dynamic range of photo) The MacFinish 2D 300 system is a professional colour photo-finish systems for PC. Next to the camera, lens and camera tripod we use photocells or a push button to control the recording of the finish photo. This version has a high speed Ethernet connection with the PC for a virtually unlimited distance between camera and PC and complete remote control of all digital camera functions. The MacFinish 2D series uses all the knowledge from our MacFinish II generation in combination with the latest technology in sensor development. The 2 dimensional (2D) sensor known in the digital photo and digital video market is now used to build a state of the art photo finish system. The digital engine of these systems is so powerful that it can record pictures of up to 2000 pixels vertical max framess with 16 bits colour resolution (up to millions of different colors). Therefore these cameras are equipped with minimal 256 Mbytes of internal RAM memory and maximum 2 GB. The start signal can come from a start button or start gate switch, and can be connected by cable or wireless transmission. When your budget is limited you can take our MacFinish 2D 100 into consideration. But only if you work with a dual setup, this means 2 cameras in main and backup setup! 3 Split Time System Photocells For an accurate split timing system for horse races we can connect up to max 48 photocell pairs (infrared light transmitter + receiver light beams) can be installed, for up to 48 split or finish timing positions, around the track. Each photocell pair (transmitter + receiver) is fixed installed on any desired split point on the track and can cover a track width of 60 meters (196 feet). You have the choice between two types of photocells: Plastic version without heating. Professional metal version WITH build-in heating. Note: Two separate cables for power and data signals are used, as this is safer to prevent the TimerBox from being damaged in case of a short circuit of the power lines. Power supply photocells 220V VAC -> 2x0,75 mm2 double PVC insulated. Data cable -> standard 5 or extended 12 wires x 0,34 mm2 LIYCY flexible signal cable, up to 15 wires are needed for the max of 48 photocells. Split Timing System by means of Universal TimeTronics TimerBox Please note that at each split point, a photocell system will only time the FIRST horse of a group of passing horses. If you need to exactly time EACH horse, at each SPLIT point, you need a transponder or photofinish system at the split points. Of course this is much more complex and expensive. The customer can specify where the different photocells needs to be installed around the track, and which photocells needs to be used for EACH of the different types of races. The TimerBox will receive external 12V battery power and uses an external battery charger for uninterrupted functionality. The TimerBox is calibrated to 0.1ppm accuracy and will transfer all timing results with s resolution to a PC running our split timing software. Software The Horseracing Split Timing software on PC will be used to select: The race type ; total distance and which photocells to time the split points. And how (where on screen, in which mode, text colour, text font, how long, etc) the split time results will be shown on screen, and optionally on local TV. Custom made This package is user adaptable, to generate the timing displays for live local or national television. Also Tote scoreboards can be driven with the split timing results.!!! Ask for YOUR custom made solution!!! CPT004 - Page 3

Greyhound Racing: Software features 1. Presentation mode: possibility to add names, sponsor logo s, You can define a custom header in a settings file (Picture 1). That settings file has the layout of a standard windows *.ini file. It is located in Settings folder, a sub-folder of the MacFinish folder, it is named advanced.ini. All the possible settings for the presentation mode are listed below: [presentation] title=[day]-[month]-[year] [FILENAME:5:6] font=impact font-size=80 align=center valign=top background=#0000ff color=#ffffff italic=1 bold=0 underline=0 zoom-width=500 zoom-height=500 zoom-left=0 zoom-top=700 zoom-border-weight=8 zoom-border-color=#0000ff Picture 1 The settings above give the following result: In the title: DAY]-[MONTH]-[YEAR] TimeTronics race [FILENAME:5:6]), the fields [DAY], [MONTH] and [YEAR] are replaced by resp. the day, month and year of the computer time at the moment of presentation. The field: [FILENAME:5:6] is replaced by the 6 th character (zero-based) of the filename (the filename here was Demo Race 1.mf3). So the syntax is [FILENAME:startposition:length]. Another example: if you filenames are: racexxxday_month_year.mf3 (e.g. race012-27_02_2009.mf3) and you want the race number, then you fill in [FILENAME:4:3] (it will give you 012). Picture 2 Adding sponsor logo s,... was already possible and is not changed. 2. Auto white balance, even during the race. It is possible to do auto-white balance (AWB) at any time (when you are scrolling) by following these steps: Click on a white spot in the scrolling preview window. Click on the white balance button in the tools window Picture 3 CPT004 - Page 4

Greyhound Racing: Software features 3. Faster result processing by using *.Par files The manual for working with *.par files is attached as APPENDIX A. An extra feature for horseracing is that not only the ID appears in the list, but also the name and the extra info. This can be very useful, if you e.g. put the color of the greyhound in the extra info, like in the example below (picture 4). To get this extra feature, you have to put the general settings of MacFinish to Greyhound races (see picture 5). Picture 4 Picture 5 4. Results file: add race information like race length, date, place and number All lines in a *.par file that start with # will be copied automatically to the start of the results file. An example of a *.par file could be: #==================================== # length=1200m # place= TimeTronics # date= # race=1 # photofinish-operator=bart smolders #==================================== 1 1 His Boy Red/White 2 2 Prodigy Iceman Blue/White 4 4 Avonside Brofin Dark Blue/White 5 5 Tirla Red/Black 6 6 Hiro White Black Stripes / Red The according results file would be:.mf3 N/A m/s 9,23 M 2000 l/s :37:39 #==================================== # length=1200m # place= TimeTronics # date= # race=1 # photofinish-operator=bart smolders #==================================== Place Lane Time ID Name Information Tirla Red/Black Prodigy Iceman Blue/White Avonside Brofin Dark Blue/White His Boy Red/White Hiro White Black Stripes / Red CPT004 - Page 5

Greyhound Racing: Software features 5. Presentation Window: scroll and zoom functions When the presentation mode is active, you can scroll the image using the arrow keys (left, right, up, down). You can open a zoom window by following these steps: 1. Press [Ctrl]: the timeline will change into a cross 2. Hold [Ctrl] and click with the left mouse button on the point you want to zoom in to. A zoom window appears. The size and border of this zoom window is fully customizable using the settings from the advanced.ini file (see Proposal 1). 3. If you want to zoom further, just press the spacebar. You can zoom up to 600%. To zoom out again, press [Shift] + spacebar. It is also possible to scroll in the presentationzoom window, using the arrow keys. 4. To close the presentation-zoom window, just click inside the presentation-zoom window or press [Esc]. 6. Presentation mode: Shortcut keys Here is a list of new shortcut keys: Alt + M : Import from MM Alt + N : Export to MM Alt + I : Import competitors from file Alt + T : Import TP data from file Alt + E : Export results to file Alt + R : Export image to JPEG Alt + S : Send results Alt + Del : Crop Alt + C : Time correction Alt + P : Presentation 7. Jpeg export: add total race image when showing a partial zoom There is an extra option in the screen to make JPEG s (see picture 7). The overview is placed at the bottom. An example can be seen in picture 8. Picture 7 Picture 8 CPT004 - Page 6

Greyhound Racing: Software features 8. Distances between greyhounds: nose, short head, head,. We included a greyhound-specific way of defining distance between two results. When you select dog races as general preference (see picture 5), an extra column appears in the results table defining the distance between two grehounds. This distance can be calculated relative to the first, or relative to the previous (this was already possible with times in MacFinish software). The values are only displayed, not exported yet, nor stored in the MacFinish file. The MacFinish file remains a timing file, where time is the key, not distance. The formula s to calculate this distance, are defined in a dll, which is also specified in advanced.ini and is located in the Plug-Ins folder (near the scoreboard Plug-Ins). [dograces] result-conversion=dograces_v1.dll Note: you can find advanced.ini in C:\Program Files\TimeTronics\MacFinish 7.7\Settings and you can edit it using a standard texteditor. The function in the dll is defined as: unsigned int ResultConversion(double dtime, double dtimeref, unsigned int iracelength) As you can see, the function needs the race length. MacFinish gets this from the *.par file. See also topic 4, the important line is: # length=1200m In horseraces_v1.dll the algorithm goes: 1. Calculate the average speed of the reference (first horse or the previous greyhound) using the race length and the reference time. 2. Calculate the time difference between the greyhound and the reference. 3. Distance = average speed * time difference 4. Look up the code in the next table: Note: One of our clients has given us this table. All other tables are possible to implement by TimeTronics upon request. CPT004 - Page 7

Additional photo-finish information: windspeed result (if required and if windgauge connected), image memory, recording speed indication, date, hour and possible titling. The MacFinish software provides a Tools Window to edit the photo-finish picture in light intensity and contrast by means of slide bars. This comes in handy when using artificial light and /or in the event of rapid changes in weather conditions. The picture can also b e c o l o u r - calibrated automatically or manually via a calibration extension. Zoom-selection from 25% to 600% in both horizontal and/or vertical ways by clicking on the appropriate arrows. By pinpointing the cursor (vertical time line), the computer associates the exact time and displays it in the left-hand bottom corner of the photo-finish screen. The race and recording-settings can at all times be changed in the Parameter Window. In order to facilitate and to limit the operations between the races, all parameters can be pre-defined in the Preferences Window. The 'Action' window will always be visible on your computer screen for as long as the program is activated and the MacFinish 2D-USB camera is connected. It is used to control the race recording, and displays the timer. CPP002 Page 2/4

MacFinish Software Pro The Overview Window offers the operator a complete overview of the entire photo finish picture. The operator can navigate through the picture by scrolling in the picture window or by simply selecting a part of the photo finish picture in the Overview Window, by simply clicking on it. The Result Table has some extra features such as: An automatic and live connection between the MeetManager program can be chosen so that the operator can not only read the Place & ID/lane & Time but also complete race information as athlete and team names. The Time column in the Result Table can be configured as follows: Absolute Time Relative Time To First Relative Time To Previous. The Time Offset Correction option allows the operator to give a predefined time to the first competitor, and which then calculates the race times for all following competitors. An extra option specially designed for cycling on the road, and which is protected from misuse for other sports. With this menu the operator can change the Hor/Vert shape of the photo so that all objects look more natural; e.g. wheels are round instead of oval. Through the Camera Window, the operator can adjust the optics (motorized iris control) and the remote controlled camera head (both optional). Basically, this allows him to align the camera and to do the finetuning of lens and camera head from sitting behind the computer, and checking the result in the Preview Window. Next to the lens and camera alignment control buttons, the operator has the ability to digitally adjust the RGB sensitivity of the CCD sensor. As the result, the operator can easily and efficiently anticipate to large changes in the light conditions, and calibrate all colours. CPP002 Page 3/4

MacFinish Software Pro Transponder and chip import Easily import the data from transponder or chip timing systems. Combine the advantages of automatic identification by transponder or chip systems with the visual, indisputable MacFinish image. Faster interpretation of the photofinish image will be possible. TP/Chip Auto Jpeg for photo finish publication Once set in the preference window the MacFinish software will create automatic a Jpeg file which you can use for web or other applications. Athletics Manager data import before a race Even before the race you can import the race data information from the Athletics Manager if available. With this functionality you can gain some extra time after the race. You will be able to start faster the interpretation of the MacFinish image! Ethernet link with Athletics Manager Today the link between the Athletics Manager and the MacFinish software can be done by a serial connection or network connection. The advantage of the network connection is that all information goes over an Ethernet cable, no serial port or USB to Serial converter are needed anymore! Video Athlete Identification A high resolution digital camera is placed 3 to 5 meters behind the finish line and connected with the photofinish computer. The finish video is taken automatic together with the photofinish image so the operator can concentrate on the race itself. Once the operator reads out the photofinish image, the video file is imported in the MacFinish software. From this moment the MacFinish operator has the MacFinish image + a 2-dimensional video of the finish on his computer screen, to visualize the athlete bib numbers for a fast and correct athlete identification. The video window AUTOMATICALLY synchronises to the selected athlete in the photofinish window. Zooming in the video window is also possible. CPP002 Page 4/4

Camera Computer connection = USB 2.0 For this camera we have chosen a USB connection. USB allows us to stream the photofinish data at a very high speed from the camera to the computer. A 5m active USB cable is delivered with the system. The main advantages are: => 3 way motorized lenses available Auto focus - Auto iris - Motorized zoom => All start signals are registered at any time => Enhanced alignment procedure: instant video image of the finish line => Light sensitive and affordable lenses => Dynamic choice in vertical pixels versus capture speed up to 2500 lines per second - up to 1280 Vertical pixels => Fully battery powered => Optional VideoID => Hardware: Specifications MacFinish 2D 100 PC-connection USB 2.0 (max 5m) Sensor Memory Built-in 2D sensor No internal memory Number of pixels (vertically) Scalable from 496 up to 1280 Number of colors/pixel Acquisition rate Synchronous time Camera: Optics (lens) 16 millions Up to lines per second 1 microseconds time base C-mount Lens control Camera power Camera Alignment Club: manual Pro: 3-way motorized for zoom, focus and iris Powered by interface (12Vdc) 2D view in software Camera cable Active USB or USB 2.0 Camera readout during race possible Start Registration Maximum length of camera cable All start registered 5m * Specifications and design can be changed without prior notice Page 2/4

MacFinish 2D 100 Aligning the camera? It s a piece of cake? One of the major advantages of the MacFinish 2D is the 2 dimensional video view to align the camera before the race. In the past a certain handiness was needed to find the finish line. Most of you will remember the operator turning his camera from side to side to align the camera. With our MacFinish 2D USB a perfect camera alignment can now be achieved much easier and much faster than in the past. Place the camera in extension of the finish line and open the camera control window to have a 2- dimensional video view of the finish line. The camera can be turned manually or with the software control functions until you have the finish line right in between the 2 vertical green lines in the left video window. At the same time you have a zoom of 3 critical points on your right hand side to give you a detailed view. Adjust the focus manually with the focus assistant if you have a manual lens or just auto focus with 1 click of a button if you have a 3-way motorized lens. In the MacFinish 2D software we have improved the auto white balance function. Motorized Lens control - Auto Iris button - Auto Focus button - Motorized zoom Focus assistant Video preview of finish area Recorded area of the camera 3-zones of magnified view to assist you during the camera alignment procedure and focus CPP001 1 Page 3/8

MacFinish 2D 100 Minor time corrections even after the race! With the MacFinish 2D USB camera we are not capturing lines but frames and out of this frame you can choose the optimal line which corresponds with the finish line. This makes the alignment of the camera even easier. Even more spectacular is that you can make small adjustments after the race! Of course your camera has to be sufficiently aligned before the race, to make sure that the required line is located within the frame window Before the finish line Front of finish line Rear of finish line Operators choice You can choose the perfect finish line within the captured frame Finish line alignment control Every time you make a photofinish picture we save a camera alignment control picture. With this picture the operator can verify the correct position of his camera. This picture will also help TimeTronics or other experienced photofinish operators to train new operators. Based on this photo the correct recommendation can be given. This picture is only visible after the race. Green rectangular = captured frame Red line = finish line chosen by operator Page 4/4

MacFinish 2D 100 Never miss a start signal again: Good communication between the starter and photofinish operator is essential for every meeting at any level. But sometimes unpredictable events can happen which can start the photofinish equipment too early or too late. To prevent that, we record all start pulses. If needed afterwards, but also during the race, you can choose the correct start pulse. Your times on the photofinish picture, as well as the running times on the displays will be corrected automatically. The photofinish operator has to press F6 at the gun start. This is just a time stamp, not an electronic start of the photofinish. It will help the operator to choose the correct start pulse in case several start pulses were recorded. The electronical start pulse which is closest to the F6 signal will definitely be the right start pulse. All starts are registered => Early start (MacFinish was not Ready) => Late start (False signal from start detection, before the real start) => Select another start while race is running => Scoreboard runs at selected start time => Recorded image has times related to selected start time => Electronic time confirmation by operator s manual time stamp (F6) During the race: Because the photofinish operator pressed the F6 button at the moment of start he knows that the start pulse of 13:18:02 will be the correct one. He only needs to click on the correct start pulse and all times will be calculated with that start pulse. The start pulse will be coloured green to confirm the action of the photo finish operator and the results will be indicated as cxxxxx. After the race Original start pulse Start pulse chosen by operator Manual photofinish operator start pulse Not used start pulse CPP001 1 Page 5/8

MacFinish 2D 100 Vertical pixels, Frame rates and photofinish lines: With the MacFinish 2D USB you can dynamically adjust the number of vertical pixels to the capture speed of the photofinish according to your specific needs! You can choose between 496, 600, 800, 1000, 1280 vertical pixels. If you have selected less than 1280 vertical pixels you can move up and down the zone of interest. The live video window will adjust itself according to the setting you have chosen for the vertical resolution. Optional 3-way motorized lenses to assist the operator: For the MacFinish 2D USB generation we have chosen to use C-mount lenses which are more affordable than the F- mount lenses. We deliver as standard an f1.2 lens which needs 5 times less light than an f2.8 lens. As in the past, TimeTronics will ask you questions about the typical setup of the camera, so as to define the most suitable lens for your purpose. With the Software 2D Pro you have the possibility to remotely adjust the zoom, focus and iris. Plus you have even more! You can automatically control the iris and focus on the finish line. The auto focus can be done in the same camera alignment window. Once your camera is aligned at the perfect position, one click on the mouse button will be enough to auto focus. The auto iris option will adjust the iris to the light intensity of the moment, sun, clouds, or sunset! Page 6/4

MacFinish 2D 100 Manual Focus Assistant: The manual focus assistant helps the operator to perfectly focus the camera! A continuous scan of the focus (in the Camera Control window) gives you a real time feedback of the focus. The higher the value, the better the focus. And the better the focus, the sharper the recorded photo finish picture! Motorized Lens control - Auto Iris button - Auto Focus button - Motorized zoom Manual Focus Assistant Bad Focus adjustment Good Focus adjustment Results even when your race is not completely finished: Live readout of the photofinish image can help the photofinish operator to start analysing the photofinish image before the race is totally finished. During the race; for example after the first 3 participants finished their race, you can define the podium and send the data to the stadium commentator, broadcasting companies etc. The system will continue recording the image and will add the rest of the image instantly as you need it. The MacFinish 2D USB is a photofinish system comprising the MacFinish 2D USB camera and the TimeTronics Interface Box, situated close to the PC, and is fully battery powered.
