1 . Houston Photochrome Club Volume MMXVII No. 6 June July 13 Meeting The competition and critique meeting will be 7:00PM July 13 at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Drive, which is one block inside Beltway 8 between Westpark and Richmond. July 27 Meeting Our Speaker for this meeting will be professional photographer, Alex Santiago. His images have been published in community and corporate publications, and his work displayed at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Colorado. His program will cover phone applications which can improve your photography He grew up in Puerto Rico and now lives in Houston. Website: Deadline for digital submission All digital entries must be sent to Philip Tan ptchromer@gmail.com by July 8 Entries received after that will not be eligible for July Competition FYI the deadline is always the Saturday before the Let s Celebrate 50 Years By Dodd Eastham Houston Photochrome Club was formed from the Houston Camera Club. and was originally a color transparency (slide) club. Founded in 1967 this year marks HPC s 50th anniversary. (HPC website) To quote Wikipedia "Kodachrome, and other nonsubstantive films, required complex processing that could not practicably be carried out by amateurs" and "The final version of the process, designated K- 14, was introduced in The process was complex and exacting, requiring technicians with extensive chemistry training and large, complex machinery." So whatever came out of the camera, one was stuck with. Of course now in the digital age one has many options in the digital dark room. So I propose a special competition early fall that harkens back to those earlier times. No digital processing allowed, neither in-camera nor Photoshop like apps. No cropping. Limits on ISO, say 100, 200, or 400. Limit on shutter speed, say 1/1000. Picture must be taken in manual mode. Manual focus, auto focus must be off. Essentially try to emulate a 1967 camera taking slides. Of course we'd still have to use a program to scale the image to the 1280 by 800 limitations and the 1MB file size limit. So there is an honor system that folks should abide by. Watch this space for more on this next month. 1
